The 360 degree view from the summit of Wasson Peak in Saguaro National Park, west of Tucson, Arizona. The King Canyon trail up is about 3.5 miles one way, and a 1839 foot climb, with many splendid specimens of saguaro along the way.
Tucson Mountain Hiking to Wasson Peak
Wasson Peak Loop Trail, Tucson, AZ
This route follows the Sendero Esperanza trail until the Hugh Norris trail, where you head east to the summit of Wasson Peak (4687ft / 1428m). The total climb from the trailhead is about 1500 ft (450m), but the climb is very gradual on a trail that is relatively wide and unimpeded by obstacles. The final climb is over many long winding switchbacks, which lessen the severity of the ascend. At the peak, Tucson can be seen in the horizon as well as the outline of the Santa Catalina and Tucson Mountain ranges.

Wasson Peak - 30May10
Wasson Peak, highest point in the Tucson Mountains. Good hike. Just under 10miles with a 2000ft gain.
We took the Sweetwater trail with 3gallons of water, 97degrees in the valley - about 85degrees at the top.
Hiked back in the dark - only came across one rattlesnake.
Music by me.
Saguaro National Park: Wasson Peak
Climbing up the Hugh Norris Trail I hike an eight mile round trip to the top of Wasson Peak. Along the way I get fantastic views of all the cacti and other plants and views that stretch all the way down to Tucson.
Picacho Peak Hike
Picacho Peak. Was. Amazing.
I've been wanting to do this hike since I moved to Tucson a year and a half ago. 2.7 miles. Rated difficult (and it was). But totally worth it. I hiked it in November during the afternoon. It was still pretty hot, so make sure to bring plenty of water (1-3 L). The hike is dog friendly, but only until the saddle. There are no public restrooms or places to fill up your water bottles. $7.00 fee to enter the park but they do accept Visa and Mastercard credit cards.
This hike was essentially an obstacle course for adults. But in nature. And cheaper than most. If you love adventure, you should definitely plan to hike this.

Drive to the top of Sentinel Peak in Tucson, Arizona
Drive from the base of Sentinel Peak to the top where the giant A of the University of Arizona is located. From there I drive through the parking lot at the top of the mountain and then back down the peak. This visit to Sentinel Peak was on Thursday, August 22, 2013. I was on the peak between about 4pm to 4:40pm as monsoon storms were gathering nearby.
Check out my main video on Sentinel Peak which discusses the history of the mountain and the influence the peak has had on the city of Tucson.

Here is a hike I took on this hot, summer solstice day in 2008. I was in Tucson for a meeting and the National Environmental Health Association meeting.
Tucson, Arizona 005 - Bike Trails - Rillito River
The Rillito River is on the north side of Tucson at the base of the Santa Catalina Mountains. The path taken on the video runs from Dodge to the Santa Cruz River. We will pick it up at the parking lot south of Thoryndale/River and Orange Grove. From here to Doge it's a 10 mile ride one way. With homes, parks, Tucson Auto Mall, Tucson Mall, and my office at Tierra Antigua Realty along the route. If you like what you see, please subscribe and watch for future videos of bike paths and mountain bike paths. I posted the ride on Facebook for you.

Moonlight Hike and a Surprise Snow Day in Saguaro National Park West, Tucson, Arizona (#10/419)
We spent 3 days exploring Tucson Mountain District of Saguaro National Park West. We learned a lot about cacti, saw many wildflowers, took a moonlight ranger-led hike to the Wasson Peak. We were there in February and one day a surprise snowstorm came in which is very rare in the Tucson area. So we jumped at the opportunity and headed back to Saguaro National Park West to see the saguaro cacti in snow. What a spectacular view!
Stick around till the end of the video for bloopers!

We have had the book for many years and have done multiple itineraries from the book and we have never been disappointed.
