Phra Nang Sang Temple, Phuket 360°
Phra Nang Sang Temple, Phuket, Thailand. For more info on Phuket's temples visit:
One of Phuket's most sacred places, Phra Nang Sang Temple is found on Thepkrasatri Road (the main airport road) about 30 minute's drive from Patong Beach in the town of Thalang. The temple is easy to find as it is close to the main traffic light junction at Thalang. Locals believe that Wat Phra Nang Sang was built on the orders of Phra Nang Leud Khaow or the White Blood Queen. The temple was built on the grounds of the Battle of Thalang, which took place in 1785 between the Thais and Burmese invaders. In the grounds are golden Buddha statues and images, a statue of the Heroines of Phuket and a Buddha cast out of tin.

Wat Phra Thong | Phra Thong Temple | Phuket Temples | Phuket Attraction
Wat Phra Thong, Phuket, Thailand, is a popular attraction for both local residents who come to pray and visitors who visit to see a large Buddha statue which only shows its upper half as if it emerges from the ground. About 7km north of the Heroines Monument, Phuket's 'Temple of the Golden Buddha' is half buried, so only the head and shoulders are visible.

Wat Phranang Sang | Wat Lüat Khao | Bismarcks Paradise | Luxury Villas Phuket
The Wat Phranang Sang is the oldest temple in Phuket and is more than 500 years old. Another name of the temple, Wat Lüat Khao (white blood), comes from an old story of a princess who was killed, but was innocent: Her blood was white which meant innocence!..

Monkey Cave Temple - Phuket - Thailand
Bankok Diary 2015: Monkey Cave Temple (Not local name) visit as a tourist
Phra Thong Temple, Phuket 360°
Phra Thong Temple, Phuket, Thailand. For more info on Phuket's temples visit:
Although not the biggest temple on the island, Wat Phra Thong is one of the more famous temples of Phuket. It is known for it's astonishing legend of Phra Phud when a Buddha statue appeared out of the ground. The temple was constructed to protect the Buddha statue and give the people a place to come and pay their respects. In the temple grounds is also a small but interesting museum that has tin mining and other old artifacts. Visiting and locating Phra Thong Temple is not too difficult by car as it is just off highway route 402 which is the main airport road. After passing the Thalang intersection (heading towards the airport) do a u-turn and follow the signposts to the temple.

Special Thalang historical tour
Intro: During the cultural festival to commemorate the great deed of Thao thep Kasartri-Thao Sri-Sunthorn, the authorities arrange tour on historical route for residents, to learn about the united action of the ancestors to defend the home land from invaders. We joined the significant tour on Monday March 8th.
We boarded a bus at the Phuket provincial Hall for a tour of historical sites in Talang district, on the north side of the island. The participants, a mix of young people and adults alike, signed up for the tour as part of a program initiated by the Phuket Provincial Authority, aimed at educating the public about the historical value of these sites.
The first stop on our itinerary was Wat Phra Nang Sang temple located on Thepkasartri road the main road leading towards the airport. This temple played a key role in the battle against the invading Burmese in 1785 as the meeting place for Thalang villagers to plan the strategy of the attack which eventually led to victory for Phuket. We learned here that this temple is the islands oldest monastery, constructed approximately 250 years ago. Situated in the temple courtyard is a 225 year old chapel. It houses big statues made of tin. They are referred to as Monks in the Belly or the Three Kings. Despite having lived in Phuket for so many years, this was the first time many of us had entered this temple.
Participant *** voice *** This young participant said
I find Phuket history is very interesting. Many locals may not even know the real story behind many of these sites. The younger generation should be educated about the historical background of our homeland. We should be aware about people who gave their lives to protect our homeland so that we can live happily today.
Thawichart Intornrit / Phuket provincial Cultural Office chief said
We would like the local people to understand about the provinces history. This is the main aim of the historical tour programs.
From Wat Phra Nang Sang temple, the tour bus took us to another famous site, Wat Phra Thong temple in Talang. It was built toward the end of Ayudhaya period. Visitors to this temple will be amazed by the image of Buddha which is half buried and emerges from the floor of temple. Legend tells that during the siege of Talang, Burmese troops attempted to dig up the image to take back with them, but a swarm of bees attacked them, preventing it from being removed from the ground. Years later, a pilgrimage was undertaken by local villagers to protect the holy statue from being stolen. This they accomplished by building a temple to preserve the sacred treasure. They named the statue 'Phra Pud' which means to emerge from the ground. The name Phra Thong temple was given by HM King Rama the sixth who visited Phra Pud Temple when he was a crown prince. The temple today is a centre of faith for residents and Buddhist pilgrims as well as those who are interested in local culture and history.
The tour didnt end here as participants continued on and visited many historical locations in Thalang including the old home of Thao Thep Kasartri and Thao Srisunthorn, the Thalang Victory memorial and the Thalang national museum located near the Heroines monument.
Terayut Aiumtrakul / Phuket vice governor commented
Im personally keen on history. As for my duty, the historical background, culture and local life style are to be listed in the provincial development plan.
Ajaan Sommai Pinbhudhasilp / local historian expressed:
At least the tour helps participants to understand more about the brave deeds of the two heroines-Thao Thep Kasartri and Thao Srisunthorn and our ancestors who were prepared to sacrifice their lives to protect the homeland. We live comfortably today, yet we should at least respect that our ancestors have worked so hard and gave their lives to save this country. It should stimulate a bond of unity among people of this generation. We may adhere to different beliefs, but we should still live together in peace.
The tour is part of the Two Heroines Fair, an activity held annually in honor of the two sisters, who 225 years ago, bravely led villagers to protect their homeland from being invaded by the Burmese. The local governments aim is to educate the younger generation about Phukets history so that they understand and value the significance of unity and working together.
