Russia: Putin inspects the Palace of Water Sports for the 2013 World Summer Universiade Games
President Vladimir Putin arrived in Kazan, Russia on Tuesday March 19 to inspect the Palace of Water Sports amidst the preparations for the 27th World Summer Universiade Games. The Water Palace is equipped with three swimming pools and will hold the first trial competitions this April.
The summer games will be the first high-profile multi-sport event hosted by the Russian Federation using 64 sports venues with 30 of those being newly constructed and especially made for the event. Russia has previosly been very successful at the Universiades and its athletes have received 608 medals within the last ten-year period.
The sporting event will gather over 13,500 university athletes from over 170 countries contesting 27 sports this summer in Kazan, Russia. It is organised by the International University Sports Federation based in Lausanne, Switzerland and it is now the second largest sporting event in the world.

The Russian Junior Diving Championship has kicked off at the newly built Aquatics Palace in Kazan. The competition is aimed at the preparation and formation of the national team that will take part in the European championship. Besides, during this championship, the sports venue can be tested prior to the 27th Summer Universiade.

The official opening ceremony of the Russian Swimming Cup has taken place at the Aquatics Palace in Kazan.
FINA Development Center in Kazan
The FINA Development Centre is based at the Olympiets Sports Complex of the Kazan Olympic Reserve School. The venue was commissioned in 2013 and a swimming pool was built there in
2015. This is one of the pool basins used during the 16th FINA World Championships in 2015 and in the aftermath moved to the sports complex.

Maria Kiseleva brings unique water show to Kazan
On New Year's Eve, residents of Kazan will witness a true fairy tale. Three-time Olympic synchro swimming champion Maria Kiseleva prepared a wonderful surprise for citizens and guests of the city. The Little Mermaid and Pirate Treasure, such is the name of the show that will unfold in the Aquatics Palace between December 28 and January 7. The celebrated synchro swimmer attended today a press conference at the Tatar-inform Information Agency where she talked about the final preparations for the show, which will contribute to further promotion of aquatic sports among Russian sports fans.

In addition to the 42 medals on offer at Baku 2015, swimmers will have the opportunity to meet qualification standards for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games providing fierce action in the pool.
The five days of competition will take place from 23-27 June 2015 and will give 526 junior athletes the opportunity to take to the pool to compete against their rivals in the hope of securing a medal at the first European Games.
