My trip on Pozar thermal baths in Greece 22/11/2015
A revitalisation of the senses in the birthplace of Alexander the Great
Imagine yourself in a pool amidst precipice rocks, natural waterfalls and wild vegetation. Feel the soothing warmth of the water (37⁰C) taking the strain off your body, and let your eyes wander around the verdant gorge of the water stream of Áyios Nikólaos (Saint Nicolas) locally known as Thermopótamos (= hot river). In the springtime, breath in the galore of natural aromas in a feast of green, where even the branches of the trees (mainly planes and willows) are all covered with covetous ivy. In the winter, relish the stimulating sensation of the 37 degrees in the outdoor pool, the stunning turquoise spot that stands out in the white and cold.
In the pregnant with history district of Pella, the capital of the Kingdom of Macedonia, the eternal beauty of Greek nature will embrace your desire for wellness and healthiness.
Home to your sensational holiday will be Loutráki, also known as Pózar, an area situated at 110 km from Thessaloniki and only 40 km from Edessa, the capital of Pella and one of the most beautiful cities of Greece thanks to the water streams that run through it and rush over the cliffs to form two waterfalls, with the higher and more spectacular one at 70 m.
At the foot of Kaimaktsalan Mountain, the thermal baths facilities of Pózar comprise 48 individual baths, 6 indoor pools, the outdoor pool (12x25m) hamams, jacuzzi and spa services. Recommended for rheumatic, dermatological, gynecological, and respiratory and circulatory system conditions, the hot springs of Pózar are beneficiary for everybody’s health and well-being not just while bathing in them, but also when drinking their water. Still, that’s just half as natural and healthy as you can go

Edessa, known as city of waters, is a city in northern Greece and the capital of the Pella regional unit, in the Central Macedonia region of Greece. It was also the capital of the defunct province of the same name.
Edessa holds a special place in the history of the Greek world as, according to some ancient sources, it was here that Caranus established the first capital of ancient Macedon. Later, under the Byzantine Empire, Edessa benefited from its strategic location, controlling the Via Egnatia as it enters the Pindus mountains, and became a center of medieval Greek culture, famed for its strong walls and fortifications. In the modern period, Edessa was one of Greece's industrial centers until the middle of the 20th century, with many textile factories operating in the city and its immediate vicinity. Today however its economy mainly relies on services and tourism. Edessa hosts most of the administrative services of the Pella regional unit, as well as some departments of the Thessaloniki-based University of Macedonia.

Visit Macedonia
Macedonia today is a geographical region of Greece, and the largest of the Greek territory.
It constitutes most of the geographic and historical region of ancient Macedon, a Greek kingdom ruled by the Argeads whose most celebrated members were Alexander the Great and his father Philip II.
In 336 B.C., Alexander the Great became the leader of the Greek kingdom of Macedonia. By the time he died 13 years later, Alexander had built an empire that stretched from Greece all the way to India. That brief but thorough empire-building campaign changed the world: It spread Greek ideas and culture from the Eastern Mediterranean to Asia. Historians call this era the Hellenistic period.
The name Macedonia was later applied to identify various administrative areas in the Roman and Byzantine Empires with widely differing borders.

Pella - Macedonia - Greece

Affluent spring waters with a special taste.
- Papigo: The famous Zagorohoria: Stone villages, bridges and monasteries, masterpieces of architecture, culture and history, humanity and nature in harmony. It’s a pure and seductive holiday destination for all seasons. You’ll discover its beauty walking along the Vikos Gorge, staring up at the Astrakas Mountain peak, listening to the rumble of the Voidamatis River and admiring impressive Mt Timfi.
You’ll feel it walking with your lover or friend in the mystical fog of Papingo, visiting the old monasteries and churches, or just relaxing by the fireplace in a luxurious guesthouse. Zagori is a priceless treasure waiting to be discovered.
- Pozar thermal spa: Loutraki Thermal Springs (Pozar or Aridaia)
At the foot of Mt Voras, in the valley Agios Nikolaos, lie the Pozar thermal springs. The thermal river Toplitsa wells up from crevasses in the rock and forms small waterfalls and natural ponds with the water temperature at a constant 37 degrees. Seize the moment for a complete revitalization at the natural spas of Pozar, famed for healing properties since ancient times. Besides the natural ponds, you have the opportunity to ensconce yourself in private baths filled with spring water. It all boils down to hours of relaxation and rest in a landscape of unparalleled natural beauty.
