Rochester Children's Theatre's original musical, Sweet House: Hansel and Gretel with a Bold New Flavor, will tour into all 40 Rochester City School District elementary schools this fall and winter, reaching 20,000 at-risk students.
We are thrilled to have this opportunity to share our message of making healthy choices with so many children, and it couldn't happen without the committed support from people and organizations who understand the urgency of our nation's childhood obesity crisis, says Rochester Children's Theatre Artistic Producing Director Deborah Haber, who is also the show's co-writer and director. Local Emmy-nominated composer, Casey Filiaci, is co-writer and musical director for Sweet House, which made its world premiere at Nazareth College Arts Center in December of 2010.
In addition to thousands of area families and students, more than 2,500 RSCD students saw last season's energetic and entertaining live show, which received overwhelmingly positive feedback from administrators and faculty. Included in RCT's upcoming tour into City schools is a pre-performance professional development video for teachers, a post-performance workshop with students, a curriculum-based New York State Learning Standards study guide, and appearances at parents' information conferences.
The opportunity for RCSD elementary students to see Rochester Children's Theatre's production of Sweet House is both timely and relevant, says Deborah Harloff, RCSD Executive Director of Visual and Performing Arts. The need for developing healthy eating habits and routine exercise is reinforced through this lively and engaging production, and these messages are delivered in a fun and engaging format.
Sweet House uses the language of today's youth combined with energizing music and dance to get across its healthy point. A music video of Sweet House's Let's Move! song features 37 local children as well as the five-member cast of Sweet House, and will be used during performances as well as to promote the show's message on YouTube, etc.
Several private community performances and appearances in clinics and children's hospitals will take place, and producers hope to present a public performance of Sweet House as well.
Rochester Children's Theatre (RCT) is a professional company of adult actors that brings literature to life for children of all ages. Currently in its 21st season, RCT offers high-quality, literature-based experiences that follow New York State Learning Standards, and entertain while fostering enrichment, communication, positive values and an awareness of literature to as broad an audience as possible. RCT also tours to New York State urban, suburban and rural schools with its curriculum-based PLAYS ON TOUR. Sweet House originated as a co-production with Nazareth College Arts Center, which is the performance home of RCT.

Trailer park millionaires
Some of the richest people in the US, including billionaires Warren Buffett and Sam Zell, have made millions from trailer parks at the expense of the country's poorest people. Seeing their success, ordinary people from across the country are now trying to follow in their footsteps and become trailer park millionaires. The Guardian went to Orlando to learn the tricks of the trade from Frank Rolfe, the self-appointed dean of Mobile Home University, as he led would-be investors around a trailer park for sex offenders.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
Rochester () is a city on the southern shore of Lake Ontario in western New York. With a population of 208,046 residents, Rochester is the seat of Monroe County and the third most populous city in New York state, after New York City and Buffalo. The metropolitan area has a population of just over 1 million people. It is about 73 miles (117 km) east of Buffalo and 87 miles (140 km) west of Syracuse.
Rochester was one of America's first boomtowns, initially due to the fertile Genesee River Valley, which gave rise to numerous flour mills, and then as a manufacturing hub. Several of the region's universities (notably the University of Rochester and Rochester Institute of Technology) have renowned research programs. Rochester is the site of many important inventions and innovations in consumer products. The Rochester area has been the birthplace to Kodak, Western Union, French's, Bausch & Lomb, Gleason and Xerox, which conduct extensive research and manufacturing of industrial and consumer products. Until 2010, the Rochester metropolitan area was the second-largest regional economy in New York State, after the New York City metropolitan area. Rochester's GMP has since ranked just below Buffalo, New York, while exceeding it in per-capita income. The 25th edition of the Places Rated Almanac rated Rochester as the most livable city in 2007, among 379 U.S. metropolitan areas. In 2010, Forbes rated Rochester as the third-best place to raise a family in the United States. In 2012, Kiplinger rated Rochester as the fifth-best city in the United States for families, citing low cost of living, top public schools, and a low jobless rate.Rochester is a Globa ...
