London Video Tour: The West End (Piccadilly Circus, Oxford Street, Convent Garden, Soho)
In this video tour, David Hill of New York Habitat ( explores London's bustling West End district!
On the tour, we will stop by Piccadilly Circus, Oxford Street, Convent Garden, Soho and more. All are part of London's thriving West End district, the go-to place for entertainment, theater and shopping! West End stretches roughly from Charring Cross in the east to Hyde Park in the west, and from the banks of the River Thames in the south to Euston Road in the north.
Covent Garden
The tour starts at the Covent Garden market: a place that started as a fruits and vegetables garden, evolved into a famous fruit, vegetable and flower market, and is now a thriving shopping area. Covent Garden also houses London's Royal Opera House, which has been part of Covent Garden since the mid 18th century. In Covent Garden you'll often get to experience street theater performances, which you can enjoy from one of the many terraces in front of Covent Garden's restaurants. One of these is Rules: London's oldest restaurant! London's oldest pub, the Lamb & Flag, is also located in Covent Garden.
Leicester Square
One of West End's three famous squares, Leicester Square is home to many movie theaters. Leicester Square pays homage to the world of theater with a statue of Shakespeare, which you can find in the center of the square, and with the many street artists you'll see all around. If you plan on seeing one of the West End musicals, you can often find discounted tickets at the TKTS booth located on Leicester Square.
Soho & Oxford Street
Next stop on the tour is London's entertainment center: Soho. Soho, which has also become London's gay scene center, lies at the heart of the West End, and is simply brimming with restaurants, pubs and shops.
North of Soho you'll find Oxford Street, which is the busiest shopping street in Europe! With hundreds of shops ranging from Topshop to the Gap, Oxford Street is sure to please even the most fervent shopaholic.
After a busy day of shopping, you can relax and feel at home in your London vacation rental apartment ( NY Habitat London vacation rentals provide the perfect base to explore the city from! An example of one of our vacation rentals is this 2-bedroom rental in Covent Garden: The apartment has a classy modern feel, comes with a fully equipped kitchen and is just blocks away from the British Museum! For a longer stay, we have apartments to offer such as this studio apartment, also in Covent Garden: The studio is part of an 18th century house, and is located right in the center of Covent Garden, so you have excellent access to the Covent Garden Market and more! Check for our entire selection of apartments in London.
Piccadilly Circus & Trafalgar Square
Next on the tour is Piccadilly Circus, a busy square popular with tourists that boasts many neon billboards. Along Piccadilly, you'll find cafes and shops such as the restaurant Richoux, the shopping arcade Burlington Arcade and the tailor shop Gieves & Hawkes. Along Jermyn Street, you'll find ladies and gentleman clothing outfitters such as Hackett.
In West End, you'll also come across cultural institutions such as the British Museum, which is one of the oldest and largest museums in the world. To the south, you'll find another such cultural institution on Trafalgar Square: The National Gallery. Trafalgar Square itself is also well worth a visit, as it's home to Nelson's Column, the Admiralty Arch and great fountains. The square is also where many events are held, for example, it's the unofficial venue for the New Year's Eve celebrations.
Seven Dials
Now you've seen the three great squares of the West End district, Leicester Square, Piccadilly Circus and Trafalgar Square, we'll end the tour at another great crossroads: Seven Dials. Seven Dials is a small road junction where seven streets meet, and it nicely illustrates the great attractions of the West End: theater, entertainment & shopping.
We hope you've enjoyed this tour of London's West End neighborhood! Don't forget to check out our blog for more information about the area: Did we miss any of your favorite spots? Let us know in the comments below!

London 4K - West End Drive - Driving Downtown - England
Sunday afternoon drive through the crowded narrow streets of the heart of London. London's West End is the largest central business district in the United Kingdom, comparable to Midtown Manhattan in New York City, Causeway Bay in Hong Kong, Shibuya in Tokyo, or the 8th arrondissement in Paris.
The West End of London refers to a distinct region of Central London, west of the City of London and north of the River Thames, in which many of the city's major tourist attractions, shops, businesses, government buildings and entertainment venues, including West End theatres, are concentrated.
While the City of London, or the Square Mile, is the main business and financial district in London, the West End is the main commercial and entertainment centre of the city. It is one of the most expensive locations in the world in which to rent office space.
London is the capital of and largest city in England and the United Kingdom, with the largest municipal population in the European Union. London is considered to be one of the world's most important global cities and has been termed the world's most powerful, most desirable, most influential, most visited, most expensive, innovative, sustainable, most investment friendly, most popular for work, and the most vegetarian-friendly city in the world. London exerts a considerable impact upon the arts, commerce, education, entertainment, fashion, finance, healthcare, media, professional services, research and development, tourism and transportation. London ranks 26 out of 300 major cities for economic performance. It is one of the largest financial centres and has either the fifth or sixth largest metropolitan area GDP. It is the most-visited city as measured by international arrivals and has the busiest city airport system as measured by passenger traffic. It is the leading investmentdestination, hosting more international retailers and ultra high-net-worth individuals than any other city. London's universities form the largest concentration of higher education institutes in Europe. In 2012, London became the first city to have hosted three modern Summer Olympic Games.
London has a diverse range of people and cultures, and more than 300 languages are spoken in the region. Its estimated mid-2018 municipal population (corresponding to Greater London) was 8,908,081, the most populous of any city in the European Union and accounting for 13.4% of the UK population. London's urban area is the second most populous in the EU, after Paris, with 9,787,426 inhabitants at the 2011 census. The population within the London commuter belt is the most populous in the EU with 14,040,163 inhabitants in 2016. London was the world's most populous city from c. 1831 to 1925.
London contains four World Heritage Sites: the Tower of London; Kew Gardens; the site comprising the Palace of Westminster, Westminster Abbey, and St Margaret's Church; and the historic settlement in Greenwich where the Royal Observatory, Greenwich defines the Prime Meridian, 0° longitude, and Greenwich Mean Time. Other landmarks include Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, Piccadilly Circus, St Paul's Cathedral, Tower Bridge, Trafalgar Square and The Shard. London has numerous museums, galleries, libraries and sporting events. These include the British Museum, National Gallery, Natural History Museum, Tate Modern, British Library and West End theatres. London 4K - Sunset Drive - Driving Downtown - Central London England
Thursday evening drive around London. I tried to get all the popular spots in one video. What most people think of London is the West End area where most of this video is filmed. The tour starts on Regent Street, continues through Piccadilly Circus (London's version of New York City's Times Square, through Trafalgar Square, then passing by the British Prime Ministers home at 10 Downing Street along Whitehall and Parliament Streets, next by the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben, along the River Thames with views of the famous Coca Cola London Eye, then going back to the Theater District, leading to Oxford Street which is Europe's busiest shopping Street, and ending in the Mayfield neighborhood on luxury Bond Street. Wow. That was a lot of text for a video platform... :)

While the City of London, or the Square Mile, is the main business and financial district in London, the West End is the main commercial and entertainment centre of the city.
The West End of London (commonly referred to as the West End), refers to both a distinct and the wider region of Central London, west of the City of London and north of the River Thames, in which many of the city's major tourist attractions, shops, businesses, government buildings and entertainment venues, including West End theatres, are concentrated.
Activities:
Taking a fairly broad definition of the West End, the area contains the main concentrations of most of London's metropolitan activities apart from financial and many types of legal services, which are concentrated primarily in the City of London. There are major concentrations of the following buildings and activities in the West End:
Art galleries and museums
Company headquarters outside the financial services sector (although London's many hedge funds are based mainly in the West End)
Educational institutions
Embassies
Government buildings (mainly around Whitehall)
Hotels
Institutes, learned societies and think tanks
Legal institutions
Media establishments
Places of entertainment: theatres, cinemas nightclubs, music venues, bars and restaurants
Shops
The annual New Year's Day Parade takes place on the streets of the West End.

London 4K - Monday Morning - Driving Downtown UK
Monday morning drive around the St James District in downtown London. Highlights include the Royal Mall area, Buckingham Palace, Bond Street, Trafalgar Square, and Parliament Street. St James's is a central district in the City of Westminster, London, forming part of the West End.
London is the capital and largest city of both the United Kingdom and England. Standing on the River Thames in southeastern England, 50 miles (80 km) upstream from its estuary with the North Sea, London has been a major settlement for two millennia. Londinium was founded by the Romans. The City of London, London's ancient core − an area of just 1.12 square miles (2.9 km2) and colloquially known as the Square Mile − retains its medieval boundaries. The City of Westminster is also an Inner London borough holding city status. Greater London is governed by the Mayor of London and the London Assembly. London is often considered the leading global city exerting a considerable impact upon the arts, commerce, education, entertainment, fashion, finance, healthcare, media, professional services, research and development, tourism and transportation. London, the fourth fastest-growing city, is 26 out of 300 major cities for economic performance. London Regent Street Shops, Hamleys, Picadilly Circus, Leicester Square / London Vlog @west end.
The West End of London (commonly referred to as the West End) is an area of Central and West London containing many of the city's major tourist attractions, shops, businesses, government buildings and entertainment venues, including the West End theatres.
Use of the term began in the early 19th century to describe fashionable areas to the west of Charing Cross.[1] The West End covers much of the boroughs of Westminster and Camden.[2]
While the City of London, or the Square Mile, is the main business and financial district in London, the West End is the main commercial and entertainment centre of the city. It is the largest central business district in the United Kingdom, comparable to Midtown Manhattan in New York City, the Gangnam district in Seoul, Shibuya in Tokyo, Sol in Madrid or the 8th arrondissement in Paris and EUR in Rome. It is one of the most expensive locations in the world in which to rent office space, just behind Silicon Valley's Sand Hill Road.

London's West End - City Video Guide
The West End is one of London's most fashionable and energetic neighborhoods. It is characterized by the neon-glowing billboards of Piccadilly Circus, one of the most photographed sights in the city.
The iconic Trafalgar Square frequently hosts outdoor events, while the National Gallery and National Portrait Gallery lay on culture daily. Shopping is a favorite West End pastime, particularly on Oxford Street, Regent Street and Bond Street.
The West End is London's main theatrical district, with the most popular shows running for decades. The bars and restaurants along Carnaby Street hum with theatergoers enjoying pre-show drinks. Packed pubs and cafes are another West End feature that's hard to miss.
Other revelers head to the exuberant Chinatown for a meal, before taking in a movie or comedy showcase around Leicester Square.
