Steam in the Highlands - The Jacobite Steam Train (July 2017)
Take a ride on The Jacobite steam passenger service from Fort William to Mallaig in the beautiful Scottish Highlands.
The West Highland Line route was featured in the Harry Potter films as the setting for the Hogwarts Express - most notably the viaduct at Glenfinnan.
This video marks my first time outside of the United States, and special thanks goes to Dayna Jodzio for driving on the wrong side of the road to get to these beautiful locations!
If you are interested in taking the trip yourself (which I would highly recommend) visit:

West Highland Line, Glasgow to Mallaig, Scotland. Great Rail Journeys of the World.
It was a wet, miserable Saturday morning, so I drove to Glasgow early and hopped on a train. Not just any old train - this was The West Highland Line. A small inconspicuous Scotrail train between Glasgow and Mallaig with a big reputation - even voted the best rail journey in the world recently. But on this stormy day, would it be a complete washout? Join me onboard to find out! Music courtesy of epidemic sound.
The West Highland Line - Road to the Isles
This movie tries to capture the spirit of the West Highland Line (WHL) in Scotland, covering almost all of the line from Helensburg Upper to Mallaig. It's been shot during my visits in June 2011 and June 2012. The WHL will be my future model railway project in British outline N gauge. It is planned to feature the Cruach snow shed, Corrour station, Monessie Gorge, Fort William and Inverlochy, Banavie including Neptune's staircase, Glenfinnan viaduct, Loch Eilt, Morar station and Mallaig. As of July 2012, the layout is in its planning stage.

In this video from June 2018, I take a joyride on Caledonian Sleeper's Fort William to London train - the Deerstalker. Next summer, these old trains will be history, as Caledonian Sleeper usher in brand new, class-leading trains on this route. Come with me and enjoy the ride down to London from the Scottish Highlands via the iconic West Highland Line. (Sorry about the weather - nothing is guaranteed in Scotland even in the middle of summer!)

Spectacular panoramas of the majestic Highlands and ancient cities of Scotland come to life aboard the country's breathtaking rail journeys. You will begin by riding on the East Coast mainline, upon which you will visit Edinburgh's magnificent station that is flanked by the ornate North British Hotel. Ride aboard a steam engine on the Strathspey Railway before the incredible West Highland line takes you through Scotland's fabled countryside. The historic and technical details behind the various trains and locomotives depicted are thoroughly explained. All that, and more, awaits you in Scotland by rail! Narrated by Peter Fairhead.
Rannoch railway station, West Highland Line, Scotland
Rannoch station stands on the moor of the same name and was opened as part of the West Highland Line to Fort William and Mallaig in 1894. It has a regular service and is one of the most remote stations in the United Kingdom, but is popular with walkers and other visitors. A visitor centre and popular tearoom are located within the main building.
Glasgow to Skye by rail and a visit to Boreraig
There is a fantastic 5 hour train journey from Glasgow to Mallaig through the West Highlands. I made it in August 2017, took the ferry over to Skye and then did a long walk from the town of Broadford across the mountain bogs to the site of the village of Boreraig, forcibly cleared by the agents of Lord MacDonald to make way for sheep in 1853. These expulsions of poor communities to make way for sheep happened in many locations and are collectively know as the Highland Clearances.

DVD Memories of Steam in Scotland Trailer V1 0
DVD Classic Vintage Steam Train Railway History - Memories of Steam in Scotland
A truly fascinating and historic account on DVD of the last days of the magnificent steam trains featuring three famous Glasgow railway stations, Buchanan Street, St.Enoch and Central Station. Additional shots around Central Scotland culminating in a trip by steam from Glasgow to Oban and Mallaig on the West Highland line by two famous locomotives which are now preserved in the Glasgow Riverside Museum of Transport. Researched, written and produced by Colin M. Liddell using rare railway archive footage these unique railway DVD titles capture some the rail history and nostalgia of British and Scottish railways and British rail steam locomotives during the previous century. Take a nostalgic railroad journey from Glasgow to Fort William or Glasgow to Oban for example aboard one of the great steam train locomotives follow the West Highland line with all of the stops along this beautiful scenic route recounting the great British steam trains and 150 years of the history of Scotland's and British steam trains, locomotives and early railway companies. Whether you are a steam railway history enthusiast, a railway modeller or simply want to relive and revisit the golden days of British steam locomotives and railways you will find something here. Caledonian Sleeper Train Arrives at Glasgow
Please watch: The abandoned Eurostar
--~--
Caledonian Sleeper is the collective name for overnight sleeper train services between London and Scotland, in the United Kingdom.
It is one of only two sleeper services on the railway in the United Kingdom (the other being the Night Riviera between London and Penzance). Two services depart London each night from Sunday to Friday and travel via the West Coast Main Line to Scotland. The earlier departure divides at Edinburgh into portions for Aberdeen, Fort William and Inverness. The later departure serves Edinburgh and Glasgow splitting at Carstairs. Five London bound portions depart from these destinations each night, combining into two trains at Edinburgh and Carstairs.
Sleeper trains had operated between London and Scotland since the completion of the line in the 1850s. Services operated from both London Euston via the West Coast Main Line including the Royal Highlander and London King's Cross via the East Coast Main Line until the latter were withdrawn in May 1988.InterCity planned to remove all seating accommodation on the remaining services from May 1992, however it instead concluded a deal with Stagecoach to retain the Mark 2 sitting carriages. After 12 months the Stagecoach carriages were withdrawn.
On 5 March 1995, responsibility for operation of the Anglo-Scottish services passed within British Rail from InterCity West Coast to ScotRail.British Rail had proposed to cease operating the Fort William portion, however the Highland Regional Council successfully sought a stay pending a formal consultation, after the Scottish Court of Session ruled that the correct service closure process had not been followed. Eventually British Rail agreed to retain the Fort William portion, but it was reduced from four sleeping carriages to one.The motorail service was withdrawn in 1995.
A trip on the Jacobite Train or Hogwarts Express from Fort William To Mallaig 2017 Scotland
In this video we take a trip up to Fort William where we go on the Jacobite Steam Train. The closest us Muggles can get to the Hogwarts Express. Then a little boat trip round the western Isles of Scotland and see wild seals. A good idea of what to do in Scotland.
