Maui Hawaii Road Trip
Maui Hawaii Road Trip
We went on a five day road trip along the coast of Maui. Maui is a fantastic environment in that each side has a different habitat. For each of our five days, we embarked on an adventure to a new location. Each day, the habitat and animals we saw were new and unique to the days before. It is an amazing experience that we encountered many different aspects on one island.
The island is formed by the volcano, so the beaches were covered with black rocks, which are molten lava cooled down.
The atmosphere and attitude in Maui Hawaii are very relaxing. It is a escape from the busy lives of the cities. In Maui Hawaii, when I step out of my room, everything I see and do takes my mind off of work.
We concluded our trip watching the sunset on top of Haleakala, Maui's most famous volcano. The view was above the clouds, and felt like we were standing above the sky.

Places to see in ( Maui - USA ) Wailuku
Places to see in ( Maui - USA ) Wailuku
Wailuku is a census-designated place in and county seat of Maui County, Hawaiʻi, United States. The population was 15,313 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Maui County. Wailuku is located just west of Kahului, at the mouth of the ʻĪao Valley. In the early 20th century Wailuku was the main tourist destination on Maui, though it has since been eclipsed with the rise of the resort towns such as Kaʻanapali, so much that there are no hotels to speak of in Wailuku.
Historic sites in the town include Kaʻahumanu Church (named after one of Hawaiʻi's great monarchs, Queen Kaʻahumanu) which dates to 1876, the Wailuku Civic Center Historic District, the site of the Chee Kung Tong Society Building, and the Bailey House, a 19th-century former seminary and home that houses a history museum and the Maui Historical Society. There are two ancient temples near Wailuku, called heiau — the Halekiʻi Heiau and the Pihanakalani Heiau. Both date back hundreds of years and were used for religious purposes by the native Hawaiians. Wailuku is served by Kahului Airport.
Home to Maui’s most famous Hawaiian rulers, site of Kamehameha’s decisive 1790 victory at the Battle of Kepaniwai in the Iao Valley, location of the 19th century Mission Station and birthplace of the mighty sugar industry, Wailuku illustrates the powerful influences which shaped the town, the island and the state. The area was a center of power and population in pre-historic Hawaii. In the mid-1800s it was irrevocably changed when New England missionaries brought their religious beliefs, western skills and implements and new agricultural methods. By the 1860s the Wailuku Sugar Company (owned by C. Brewer & Co.) and other plantations were busy growing and milling sugarcane. Miles of ditches were dug, bringing irrigation water from deep in the mountains to the vast fields of central Maui, and the sugar industry flourished.
Wailuku is the new home of Maui's Golden Baseball League expansion franchise, called Na Koa Ikaika Maui. It is also the hometown of Boston Red Sox outfielder Shane Victorino and Atlanta Braves catcher Kurt Suzuki. Wailuku also hosts the Maui Bowling Center, which has hosted a strong number of local bowling leagues since its grand opening in 1948. The building was originally constructed in 1945 as a furniture store but was later converted in 1948 for use as a ten-lane bowling alley. The alley utilized manual pin-setters from its opening until 1961, when it converted to automatic setting machines. Located at the corner of Market Street and Vineyard Street in Wailuku.

In short: I cannot imagine doing anything more crappy. It left a bad taste in our memory for days and we could not focus on the rest of trip after this terrible experience. It was like going to a nice big party but being trapped in a tiny corner not allowed to interact. Not only was it a sheer waste of time and money, but so anti-climactic. I would not do it again if it was free.
1) The pilot flew way too high and too far from anything, so far that only after blowing up my large resolution photos, I found another helicopter way down close to the waterfall that we were supposed to see. That copter looked like a speck on my photo.
2) They put us not only in the back seats, but also on the right hand side, behind the pilot. Pilots make the tours in such a manner that passengers on the left don't have to look over them (pilots) to see the views. This means they circle the islands counter-clockwise, or stand by a fall facing forward or with the left hand side facing, so the passengers on the left will see things thru their own window and dont have to look over the pilot to see anything. If you are in the back seat and on the right, you ARE SCREWED. You wont see jack and they will use the computer as responsible for who sits where. BS! We got our tickets with a little discount thru Expedia concierge whereas the ultra big folks sitting in the front did regular fund raising and gave away such copter tickets as prize to people.
3) Our pilot (Glenda) spent 7 minutes over empty waters from Maui to Molokai and 7 minutes to get back (nothing to see), yet spent only 50 seconds at the most important waterfall in Molokai (the highlight of the trip) and made figure S turns in such a manner that the left hand side people saw the fall three times and we saw it for 5 seconds.
4) When we clearly mentioned in the microphone that we in the back cannot see anything, the pilot turned and said nothing. As if all she knew to say was the crap she had memorized to repeat all day like a tape recorder. When I asked are we going back on the same route we took this way so that the right hand side people can get to see the views also?? she said, that's not something they do and she took some boring middle island path.
5) The flight was scary. The copter swang a few times like a pendulum during the trip and given the awful view we had, we really wished, we would be anywhere but trapped in that box.
6) Not only we had to look over the shoulder of 5 other people, we also had to deal with reflections of their colorful shirts in the plexiglass windows. Not only these windows were not glazed to be clear, but also they had no wipers, so they would be rained on and you couldn't see anything.
7) 45 minutes is simply too little time to see Molokai AND North Maui, especially if 15 minutes is wasted en route over waters back and forth from the island and 7 minutes is wasted on takeoff and landing. This was ridiculous.
8) Once we landed, we voice our utter disappointment to the manager woman, who got permission to make a free copy of the flight video. We told them, the dvd would only remind us of the terrible experience and we would rather get the commercially made blue-ray. They denied that request.
9) We paid for the commercially made DVD of the flights. They were playing it on large screens at the place and it was a million times better that the flight we had.
10) Depending on where you're staying in Maui, It takes you 30 to 90 minutes to get to Helipor, 45 minutes of waiting and another 30-90 minutes driving back., plus the flight= 4-5 hours wasted.
11) This company has killed about 10 people over the past 10 years. Doing little math, I would guess they are easily making 10 million dollars a year in pure profits on this bogus venture. They can afford putting fake reviews all over the internet to get their rating s up to the 4 stars they currently have instead of the 1.5 stars they really deserve.
12) Do yourself a favor and just drive about 2 ours south toward Hana in south Maui and come back, Every minute of it will be many times more enjoyable than the flight we had. Even better, go all the way to Hana and stay a few night there and hike up the O'heo Gulch (7 sacred pools). It will be an incredible experience.
13) If not, just buy the commercially made DVD, or even cheaper, just go to the their heliport office and take a seat in fron of their big screen and watch the video for an our. It was sublime, the flight was the opposite.

Best Beach in Maui Hawaii - Makena : Ep.01
For those who know me well you know I love Hawaii, especially the Island of Maui, it has the best beach in Hawaii. It is by far my favorite Hawaiian Island. Yes, I know, all of the Islands are very beautiful and they each have their own unique flavor but there is just something about Maui that speaks to my soul. I can’t really explain it.
I’ve been visiting Maui Hawaii since 1998 and it’s by far my favorite Island in Hawaii. There is a special feeling in Maui that is unlike any other Island. No offense Oahu, Kauai, Molokai, and Big Island. But Maui has my heart.
My favorite Hawaiian island, Maui
On this recent trip to Hawaii we were only there for four days and two of those days were rained out. We arrived around 2:00pm and rented a car in Kahului then made a routine stop at Walmart for provisions. We then proceeded to the Kaanapali area and grabbed a mixed plate at L&L BBQ.
Endless buckets of rain
One thing to remember when making your travel plans to Hawaii is that all these tropical plants and trees are green and lush because it rains a lot. In fact, if you look at the weather in Maui on your mobile phone app, you will more than likely see that the forecast will show rain every day. Don’t be alarmed! This is normal. And it will more than likely rain every day. But these rain storms usually only last an hour or two.
This was actually my first trip to Hawaii where it rained for 2 days straight. In fact, the temperature dropped down into the low 60s. Which is rare for the Islands.
And even more rain in Maui
Undeterred, we ventured out and enjoyed as much as we could despite the rain. The jungle trail at Honolua Bay was particularly fun in the rain with all the lush green plants and trees. We were also able to enjoy the sites and shops in Lahaina Town which is nice when it’s sunny but still fun during the rain.
It’s important to keep your plans flexible when visiting Maui Hawaii as you will probably want to work around the weather.
Our first sunny warm maui beach day
So after two days of constant rain, the clouds parted and the rain stopped. We couldn’t wait to get our swimsuits on and head to the beach.
Of all the beaches I have visited in my lifetime, Makena is my favorite. Why? The sand is a beautiful unique color and texture and the water is turquoise blue. It’s clean and beautiful and generally warm and free of bugs and flies. It is the best beach in Maui Hawaii.
Be sure to heed the warnings of the lifeguards. The shore breaks here can literally break your neck. The waves will usually chill out early in the morning and late in the afternoon. If you feel adventurous, you can hike over to Little Beach but beware, it is often populated with clothing optional beach goers and “maui wowie” smokers. So if that’s the kind of thing you are into, knock yourself out!
Also, be sure to take a walk to the south end of Makena Beach (big beach) where the sand meets the exposed black lava rock. Great photo ops at sunset! You will see why Makena Beach is the best beach in Maui Hawaii.

* Bonus Secret Spot: If you want to see some great untouched reef and tropical fish, drive to southwest side of the Island to Ahihi Bay area of Ahihi-Kinau Natural Area Reserve. You can walk along a shore for about half a mile to the end of the trail where you can literally see the coral reef and dozens of fish before you even enter the water. Be smart and swim with a partner and keep an eye out for big fish. Stay close to the shore.
