GASBAGS cycling in Galway
The famous GASBAGS group, now in its 28th year, cycled around Galway in June 2018 with the ride lasting for 6 days.. The group was split into two teams (1) the Super 3 who cycled 315 miles with 4250 m of height elevation, (2) the Magnificent 7 who cycled 203 miles with 2982m of height elevation. The ride started in Galway City, went west to Maam Cross then Clifden, north to Leenaun then Westport, then south to Cong, and back to Galway City.
We hired bikes from the Bike Hire Ireland (Westside Cycles) based in Galway. We were very pleased by the service and help and also the bikes themselves. One bike had a problem when we were in Westport, with the shop owner, Alan, arranging for the bike to be swopped over - just excellent service.
We had one day of heavy rain, another day with some rain and high winds, but otherwise the days were dry.
Almost everyone drank Guinness - pint after pint!
The Galway Cycle Bus Experience
The Galway Cycle Bus in Galway, Ireland, safely cycles primary school children to school every morning, escorted by a group of trained marshals from the local community. We have operated 154 days of service to date, with over 2,600 individual student journeys completed.
We are looking for volunteers from the local community to consolidate our existing services, and expand into other areas of Galway city.
See galwaycyclebus.weebly.com or email us on galwaycyclebus@gmail.com if you'd like to get involved, or create a similar initiative in your own community.
Galway, Connemara, Aran Islands, Ireland
Galway, Connemara and Aran Islands in the west of Ireland and nearby sights. Galway is a lovely town, perfect for strolling along cobble-stone lanes lined with artisans shops, but even more attractive is the adjacent Connemara Peninsula, with Kylemore Abbey and Clifden, which we will thoroughly explore together.

The essence of Irish landscape is the beauty-of green fields bounded by miles of rock walls; ancient stone houses with thatch roofs; cows and sheep wandering freely. This is a wild region of mountains, lakes, tumbling streams, undulating peat bogs, unspoiled beaches, and panoramic views. It is a Gaelic-speaking region that has maintained its traditional character and kept the modern world at bay. The musical accent of the friendly locals will charm your heart in a way you can never forget.
The west of Ireland has for generations been considered one of the most beautiful parts of Ireland and it seems that the beauty of the Connemara scenery is matched by the demeanor of its inhabitants. Galway has been voted the friendliest city in the world in a recent poll.
Cycling Galway (Darroura to Leenaun)
This trip was done in May 2016 in preperation for the Switzerland trip, which can be found on the channel. We went from Darroura to Leenaun via the western way walking route and camped just outside of Leenaun close to Aasleigh falls. We went to Darroura first to see how the bikes would hold up on an actual mountain bike route with the equipment (I don't recommend it). Then cycled down the N59 towards Clifden, passed Maam cross, then turned off to the right just before Recess towards maam ean (the altar built into the side of the mountain) seen in the walking the western way video and continued on this till we got to Leenaun. A link to the western way walking route can be found below from the Irish Trails website. The Darroura mountain bike trail description can be found below from trail badger:

Inishneer, County Galway, Ireland
The Western Ireland Island of Inishneer is a must see. It is just one of the three main Aran Islands. We took the ferry from Doolin to the island, but you can also ferry from Galway. We hired bikes and rode around the 3 mile or so island. There are great places to eat, drink, camp, stay in bed and breakfasts, ride in wagons, bikes. O'Brien's Castle is at the highest point, and I understood it to be the oldest ruins in Ireland(built in the 14th century) and you are free to climb all over it, inside it. The bike ride in this video starts out after we rode to the top of the hill, maybe 300 feet elevation, and pretty much coast downhill all the way to the other side to a shipwreck(cargo vessel Plassey) and on to the lighthouse. The video ends at O'Briens Castle. My son Ryan and I had a blast!
Dublin to Galway Ireland
Started off the day on the wrong side of the road. Driving on the Left hand side of the road makes for a thrilling day. We explored Gallway Ireland and then traveled to our rental home that we found on VRBO at HomeAway.com,Inc. property #95799. This cute stone house is located in the town on Fanore in county Clare Ireland in the region know as the Burren. This area is beautiful and full of amazing rock formations.
PASG Recording
Last term (Easter to June 2018) PASG students recorded 'This is Me' and created this short film to accompany the recording.

Bike the Gap of Dunloe
The Gap of Dunloe is stunning! Rent bikes in Killarney and ride for about 2 hours to the top of the Gap of Dunloe. A quick ride down the other side puts you at Lord Brandon's Cottage (20 minutes after the top of the Gap), where you can have a lunch and catch the boat back to town. This trip can be done in reverse as well.
If you are going to use a Jaunting Car (carriage), reservations aren't necessary as they are waiting at both sides of the Gap. Just arrange transportation to the Gap or take the boat to Lord Brandon's Cottage.

Irish Cycling Holidays
The Irish media reports that the Irish tourist board is is to launch a new €30m strategy aimed at reversing the massive drop in the number of tourists visiting Ireland for cycling holidays.
Since the year 2000, the number of bike tourists visiting Ireland for cycling holidays has fallen from 130,000 to 50,000.
That's a crying shame: Ireland is a brilliant place to ride bikes. Here's the Quickrelease.tv kids on an Irish cycling holiday in 2005.

Cycling 49km in the Rain! The Athlone-Mullingar Greenway
Sorry about the quality, there is rain on the lens most of the time, but I thought it was worth a share because, you know, sometimes you just gotta cycle 49km in the rain! With friends by your side and a smile on your face, because that is what experimenting with adventure is all about of course :-)

About half way through the video you can see filtering through the traffic starts getting tighter. The guy manages to miss all the Black Cabs though...The guys expression is classic fatalism.
