On Monday 19th June 2017 we will be launching the JUSTICE 4 GRENFELL CAMPAIGN following the tragic events in the early hours of Wednesday 14th June 2017. The Launch will consist of a Silent WALK of REMEMBRANCE:
Bereaved families, multi faith leaders, representatives from the emergency services and the newly elected MP for Kensington and Chelsea.
The Campaign is a community led coalition established to obtain Justice for all the residents of Grenfell tower. The bereaved families; survivors; the local community and representative organisations working together in a multi-faceted approach will propel it. We will leave no stone unturned to ensure that there is justice for each and everyone affected by this tragic event. The campaign’s ultimate aim is to be a platform for change to ensure that such an event never happens again.
The campaign has an immediate focus on the survivors and their families as there is a desperate need to instantly put in place an urgent and compassionate response that addresses their needs, including rehousing (in the borough); financial support and replacement of official documents.
This will be essential for the longer-term aims of the campaign and for submission to the planned Public Inquiry. Justice 4 GRENFELL aims to empower the community.
Ishmahil Blagrove – Campaign Co-ordinator said:
“It is time for all marginalised communities across Britain regardless of class, faith or ethnicity to come together and challenge the disparities in wealth and inequalities that have plagued our society’’.
The Campaigns legal strategy will be steered under the advice of human rights Barrister and Champion Michael Mansfield QC.
The campaign understands the anger that local and national communities are experiencing at this time; we hear you and welcome this - but ask for those attending the walk to remain dignified and respectful in memory of those who have passed and their loved ones.

North Kensington - WikiVidi Documentary
North Kensington is an area of west London, north of Notting Hill and south of Kensal Green. The Grand Union Canal is the official boundary between Kensal Green and North Kensington. The borders between North Kensington and Notting Hill are a little less clear,, but residents generally see the Westway flyover as the boundary. The names North Kensington and Ladbroke Grove are used interchangeably to describe the same area. North Kensington is where most of the violence of the Notting Hill race riots of 1958 occurred and where the Notting Hill Carnival started, despite North Kensington and Notting Hill being separate areas. The area's main transport hub, Ladbroke Grove tube station, was originally called Notting Hill from its opening in 1864 until 1880, and Notting Hill & Ladbroke Grove between then and 1919, when it was renamed Ladbroke Grove . It acquired its current, simpler name in 1938. The area was also once served by St. Quintin Park and Wormwood Scrubs railway station, until ...

How local issues can resonate around the world | Moyra Samuel | TEDxLondon
Justice4Grenfell campaigner and community activist Moyra Samuel explains how her anger over the Grenfell Tower tragedy lead her to become a key voice in the campaign. . She discussing how this struggle for justice related to what she experienced as an anti-apartheid campaigner in South Africa. Moyra is interviewed by Ben Bailey Smith an English rapper, comedian, actor, screenwriter, radio presenter and voiceover artist, who is also known as Doc Brown. Moyra was born in South Africa and came to London in the dark days of apartheid in 1979. She has lived in North Kensington for the past 30 years, teaching at a local training provider, primary school and college. She has been involved in local campaigns in the area for many years, including Westway23 and the campaign to stop the demolition of a large local estate near Grenfell Tower. She is an active member of NW London Stand Up To Racism. Moyra became involved in the Justice4Grenfell campaign after she organised a demonstration in the week following the fire in response to the anger many felt at the needless loss of life and the absence of the local authority in the days following. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at

Reimagining Goldfinger - Oral History Testimonies #16
Reimagining Goldfinger builds on SPID’s award winning Trellick Tales project, which featured on the BBC, was pick of the week in Time Out and won a Clore Prize. The project explores the heritage of West London’s Cheltenham Estate, comprising blocks such as Trellick Tower and Edenham Way . This historic estate was designed fifty years ago by the renowned architect Erno Goldfinger and has come to symbolise Brutalist architecture.
It was one of the last tower block estates to be built before local authorities realised what social problems they caused. Built in 1972 at the commission of London County Council, the estate replaced the sub-standard late 19th century housing and embodies the best ideas at the time for high rise housing.
Cheltenham Estate received Grade II listed status in 2012 and is just round the corner from SPID’s base in the historic Kensal House estate. Kensington council is currently consulting with the local community on plans to redevelop the empty area between Trellick Tower and Elkstone Road.
Reimagining Goldfinger is a year long programme which starts July 2016 and will follow the estates’ journey from its completion in 1972 through to the present day. The heritage of the building will be explored through detailed research, the creation of oral history testimonies and a film. Young participants will be encouraged to work with older residents throughout each of the project’s three 12-week stages.
In one block young people will create a film about the estate’s history which is shot on location. It will take the form of a documentary. During these weeks the young people will be encouraged to form a company identity and have a sense of ownership of both the project and the heritage of their estate.
In another block young people will learn research techniques and draw upon visual and written resources in order to investigate the changing social, political and historical context that has influenced the building and its residents. Workshops from the Oral History Society will teach them about the history of their estate and will develop their research skills. Sessions with Haworth Tomkins Architects will develop their model making skills and explain plans to redevelop neglected areas of the estate. The young people will create an exhibition about the history of their estate that will include their own models of how it might look in future.
And in another block they will explore older residents’ memories by interviewing them about their experiences of estate life. Workshops from the Twentieth Century Society will teach them interview skills and editing skills they need to create oral history testimonies. The V and A will also deliver guided tours of the estate and will show them how to give these tours themselves.
Reimagining Goldfinger is part of our Living History program, created by Nnenna Samson Abosi and Mariana Sastre.
