Alona Beach Panglao, Bohol to Oslob, Cebu: Swimming with whale sharks. March 2016
I'm still in awe. It was humbling to swim with these gentle sea giants....
We stayed on Panglao, Bohol for about 10 days. We decided to head to Oslob, Cebu from there instead of the usual bus from Cebu city. We took a boat from Alona Beach early in the morning. It was definitely worth the little bit more money to travel that way. Bus rides in the Philippines can be rough so being on the water was wonderful.
We had our reservations about going to Oslob to see these amazing whale sharks but we were so glad we did in the end. Neither of us are great swimmers but it's worth it to see them up close, even if you just hang off the boat and stick your head in the water. The whale sharks are fed by boatmen and there are quite a few people swimming at the same time, but honestly, the whale sharks did not seem bothered by anyone. We had one swim from the ocean under our boat to join the others. We saw maybe six or seven of them that day. From what we understand the animals are lured in to eat but only in the morning hours. All activity stops at noon. Not sure how ethical this is but things are well organized and the whale sharks did not seem to be affected negatively. Though it may affect them in the long run, hard to say...
If you decide to do this one day please respect the rules set out for visitors. No sunscreen and do your best to stay a few meters away. Do not try to touch them, it's bad for their skin. They come so near but we did our best to stay a few meters away. Some seem so close in the video but they were still quite far, just shows how big they actually are! This is definitely not a natural sighting but definitely a wonderful experience.
Thanks for watching!

Charity isn’t a swimmer, AT ALL… So getting her in the water with a whale shark is beyond impressive. Also, there’s a whale shark in this video. Then mountains that look like Hershey Kisses, 2kms of a Mahogany forrest, waterfalls for life, a $.94 haircut and cliff jumping into the bluest of the bluest waters. We drove endless miles on a scooter to get to all these places and while at first intimidating, we'd do it all over again 100 times.

CEBU CITY TO OSLOB | GETTING TO THE WHALE SHARKS | VLOG 19
We are officially in the Philippines!
We spent our first few days staying in a swish resort on Mactan Island, a reward ourselves for the month long hostel experiences through Japan and Taiwan. Nothing much to see, just us drinking Old Fashions at 10am, lazing by the pool and eating hotel famous club sandwiches (our weakness!)
So finally we are in the real Philippines, taking long buses, jeepneys and tricycles to get to Oslob to swim with the whale sharks, the reason we came to Cebu and it certainly delivered!

Travel Asia: Philippines Pt 12: How to get from Alona beach to Oslob? Snorkelling with WHALE SHARKS!
Its time to move on and we decided to travel to Oslob and try snorkelling with the whale sharks. We heard a lot about it, saw many interesting videos and thought this might be something for us.
First we need to get to Oslob right? Well we just went to several tour companies in Alona beach and asked them whether we can jump on the boat that they got going to Oslob for the whale shark tours and guess what they said yes :)
We paid 1,280 pesos for the both of us, and its a one way ticket. It took us a bit more than an hour on a boat. Please make sure to book your spot 1-2 days in advance, cause there is only 1 boat per day early in the morning.
We arrived in Oslob and grabbed a trike on a pier for 100 pesos. It took us to one of the tour agencies that provided the whale shark snorkelling experience (diving is also available). The price (including the snorkelling equipment) came to 2,200 pesos.
It is an amazing experience, we have never been so awed by nature and we love watching BBC nature Animal Planet and Discovery channel :) We recommend it but also have to mention that there are way too many tourists. We would suggest to limit the number of tourists per day. Additionally people should enforce the rules they preach, as in take a shower before going into the water if you had sunscreen (showers didnt work).
Wonderful experience! Remember we need to save our planet not only for ourselves but future generations as well!

Later we will be riding 38.322km in 242 days on a motorcycle from Singapore all the way to Leipzig & Delitzsch, Germany, raising charity money for children, who need help all over the world.

Riding overland and crossing 24 borders is an exciting adventure that we want to share with you and put together our best places and greatest experiences, things to see, things to do and hope to pass on some tips & tricks we learned along the way.

Whale Shark Watching in Lila, Bohol
This tourist spot will be officially opened on December 18, 2019. But for now, they are kind enough to allow you to do snorkeling and witness the gentle giants. All you need to give them is a donation/honorarium for the fishermen that would give you a ride to the site.
