Three Charters in a Row Through York (Class 57s, 68s and 90) | 23rd June 2019
Another charter-packed Saturday in York, with three specials heading north up the ECML in fairly quick succession.
Firstly, we see WCRC’s 57314 and 316 top ‘n’ tailing The Northern Belle, which ran as 1Z54 from Manchester Victoria to Edinburgh. It pauses in platform 5 as a pair of 5 car LNER liveried class 801 ‘Azumas’ go past.
Secondly, we see DRS 68016 ‘Fearless’ and 003 ‘Astute’ top ‘n’ tailing NENTA Tours’ ‘Scottish Adventure’ charter, which ran from Norwich to Edinburgh via Ipswich and Ely as 1Z03. On it’s departure, the sweet sound of the 68’s power can be heard as 016 hauls the load 11-train away on it’s way north to Scotland.
Finally, we see DBC’s EWS liveried 90035 lead UK Railtours’ ‘Ancient Kingdom’ Charter, which ran from Kings Cross to Berwick as 1Z90, passing through York non-stop 27 minutes late after being held outside due to congestion caused by a failed 170 just north of the station. I jump a little here as the driver blows the horn as it passes me!

York Christmas Market 2018
A brief tour of York Christmas Market 2018. It felt nice and Christmasy which some I find do not! The music was good all the way around and the quality of goods on sale was good, not the usual knitted Santa's etc! There seems to be a lot of Gin stalls this year. I would recommend the park and ride from the outlet, takes the stress out of parking and only £3.10 return, plus the shopping outlet is great!

Yorkshire (/ˈjɔːrkʃər, -ʃɪər/; abbreviated Yorks), formally known as the County of York, is a historic county of Northern England and the largest in the United Kingdom.[3] Due to its great size in comparison to other English counties, functions have been undertaken over time by its subdivisions, which have also been subject to periodic reform. Throughout these changes, Yorkshire has continued to be recognised as a geographical territory and cultural region.[4][5] The name is familiar and well understood across the United Kingdom and is in common use in the media and the military,[6] and also features in the titles of current areas of civil administration such as North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and East Riding of Yorkshire.
Within the borders of the historic county of Yorkshire are areas which are widely considered to be among the greenest in England, due to the vast stretches of unspoilt countryside in the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors and to the open aspect of some of the major cities.[7][8] Yorkshire has sometimes been nicknamed God's Own County or God's Own Country.[5][9][10]
The emblem of Yorkshire is the White Rose of the English royal House of York, and the most commonly used flag representative of Yorkshire is the White Rose on a blue background,[11] which after nearly fifty years of use, was recognised by the Flag Institute on 29 July 2008.[12] Yorkshire Day, held annually on 1 August, is a celebration of the general culture of Yorkshire, ranging from its history to its own dialect.[13]
Yorkshire is now divided between different official regions. Most of the county falls within Yorkshire and the Humber. The extreme northern part of the county, such as Great Ayton, Runswick Bay, Middlesbrough and Dalton-on-Tees, falls within North East England. Following boundary changes in 1974, small areas in the west of the historic county now form part of North West England.

York Sheriff's Riding 2016
Every 21st December the custom of the Sheriff’s Riding takes place after dusk in York. The Sheriff's party is accompanied by the York Waits in their livery; they process around the city, playing music and reading a proclamation at each of the city gates. The proclamations welcome all manner of whores, dice players, thieves and other unthrifty folk” into the city for the 12 days of Yule.

The Yorkshire Rose Jubilee - 45596 Bahamas On The White Rose - 27/07/2019
Having worked a railtour to Hereford the previous weekend. Saturday 27th July saw 45596 out once again this time at the helm of 'The White' to York from Dorridge, running via Burton on Trent with passenger stops at Tyseley, Coleshill Parkway, Tamworth, Ilkeston & Alfreaton.
We start the video at Clay Mills Level Crossing, just North of Burton on Trent Station where 45596 can be heard getting into her stride as she restarts her train out of the slow loop line following a pathing stop.
Our second shot sees 45596 as she arrives into York where the tour would terminate.
Whilst in York waiting for 45596 to go to York NRM North Yard (Outside the Great Hall) for servicing before the return to Dorridge. (Footage not included :- Please see note below) I was lucky enough to capture the rare sight of LNER A4 Pacific No.4468 'Mallard' outside the Museum being shunted back into the Great Hall by the museum's resident Class 08 Shunter coupled to LMS Class Jubilee No.45699 'Galatea'.
My final shot of 45596 for the day was at Willington in the evening light with a shower of rain to make the rails a little slippery, showing no sign of difficulty, 45596 steam through with the return leg of the tour back to Dorridge.
:- Due to uncertainly of whether or not 45596 was going to be serviced at York NRM and no no one knowing what was happening with 45596 with regards to servicing, I decided to walk back to York Station only to see 45596 reversing towards the NRM North Yard... Oh well... can't have it all I guess..
Filmed on a Panasonic VXF990 with a Takstar SGC-598 Microphone.
