Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area White Salmon Stevenson Washington Oregon Mt. Hood. The Columbia River Gorge National Scenic area is 85 miles long from one end to the other. White Salmon, Washington is located at the mouth of the Gorge across the River from the The Dalles, Oregon. Stevenson, Washington is located about 23 miles from White Salmon. You can see Mt. Hood from White Salmon. Cape Horn is located at the west end of the Columbia River Gorge. Skamania Lodge is located in the Stevenson area.

Wet Planet rafting White Salmon River Husum Falls cliff jump (near Hood River Oregon) July 20 2018
This was my first time rafting. This was the morning half-day trip, which covers about 8 miles total. The cliff jump and Husum Falls portion at the end were optional. Our group had a great time, our guide Pete was fantastic, and I definitely recommend this guided rafting tour with Wet Planet Whitewater.
Hood River - White Salmon Interstate Bridge
Join us as we drive across the Hood River - White Salmon Interstate Bridge. This bridge spans the Columbia River between Oregon and Washington. The bridge is nearly 1 mile long. It was built in 1924 and pretty much rebuilt in 1938. The lanes on the bridge are very narrow at 9 feet 4.75 inches so it is advised that large RV's cross at Cascade Locks (Bridge of the Gods) or the Dalles.
Our day out was sunny until we reached Hood River. I apologize for the rainy video.

Oregon to Washington(White Salmon, Hood River, Mount Adams, Portland, Multnomah Falls)
We took a quick over night trip from Bend, Oregon to White Salmon, WA. We traveled up 97 through Eastern Oregon to Arlington, Oregon, down the Columbia River Gorge, crossed over in to Washington State, drove up to Mount Adams, and back to White Salmon, Washington where we stayed the night. The next afternoon we went farther down the gorge and crossed back in to Oregon on The Bridge of the Gods, and took the scenic drive in to Portland to see all of the beautiful waterfalls along the Oregon side of the gorge. We ended our trip driving home through the Mount Hood National Forrest.

Condit dam is breached, letting the White Salmon River run free
The Condit dam was breached today, allowing the reservoir behind it, Northwestern Lake, to drain into the White Salmon River. The dam's fall will unleash one of the Northwest's cleanest and wildest rivers, originating from glaciers on Mount Adams.

June 2, 2016 - Conservationists can now point to the largest dam removal project in the U.S. as a success story. The ecosystem of Washington's Elwha River has been thriving since the removal of its hydroelectric dam system. Recent surveys show dramatic recovery, especially in the near shore at the river's mouth, where the flow of sediment has created favorable habitat for the salmon population. A new generation of salmon species, some of which are endangered, are now present in the river. Some hope that the restoration of the Elwha River will become a shining example for the removal of dams across the U.S.

October 28, 2011 — The White Salmon River in Washington state is flowing again as the nearly 100-year-old Condit Dam was disabled with explosives Wednesday. The reservoir draining took about 2 hours. Further demolition is scheduled in 2012. The event is a significant milestone for river restoration and dam removal nationwide.
