Kiruna(Sweden) Things to do (Info, Links)
Studying in Sweden is a boon for an explorer like me. My second travel video tells the chronicles of my adventurous journey at Kiruna, a small town in the far north of Sweden above the Arctic Circle, where the summer sun shows his face for two months only while at winter, the city turns up a white wonderland.
The polar nights satisfy the wanderers with the most intense northern lights around the place but often go fade away to disappoint the travelers. The further north you go, and the clearer the nights are, the better your chances of experiencing aurora borealis. Don’t forget to check the weather forecast before making your trip to increase your chances, but keep in mind that they can’t be precisely predicted. It is very difficult to predict the northern light view probability months before when you really plan for the trip and book hotels and flight tickets. If you are adventure lover, I can assure you that activities like snowmobile and dogsledding would not disappoint you even if you don’t see the most spectacular northern light.
I had my visit in Kiruna during November, when the temperature drops down to (-15 to -20 degree) and the Lapland remains snow-covered making it tempting for the most adventurous Arctic activities like snowmobile safaris, snowshoeing, dogsledding, and moose safari with horses. Snowmobile tours offer the incredibly venturous ways to pave around the snow and explore the snowy city. Ice hotel is undoubtedly one of the famous attractions of Kiruna. The masterpiece, its furnishings and even the glasses are sculpted of ice. This fascinating structure is rehabilitated each winter. Dogsledding is another reward for the travellers. Sleds are drawn by friendly and beautiful Alaskan huskies. It is a thrilling experience altogether speeding through the forests and across the frozen lakes and rivers at Kiruna.
In a nutshell, the Lapland had been a perfect recipe for romantic getaways and of course a life-time experience for me. The adventurous activities, tranquil nature and plenty of fresh air stored in this small town melted all my cares away and blessed me a dream coming true.
In my opinion, the best time to visit Kiruna is February during the winter and July during summer. Proper cloths are necessary when you are visiting Kiruna. During the winter temperature could be -40 degree. Therefore, brace yourself before you visit there.

8 Hidden places in Sweden Even the Swedes Don’t Know About. Enjoy a new experience in these places.
Hidden places in Sweden Even the Swedes Don’t Know About.
Sweden is more than just Stockholm, Gothenburg, and Malmö. In fact, a good portion of Sweden is unpopulated, which means there are vast swathes of unspoiled nature. While the further you go north the fewer people you’ll find, the southern areas also have their own special treats. Here are the 8 best-hidden spots in the country.
1. Blekinge.
Welcome to Blekinge! It's a little enchanting and beautiful destination with surprisingly close to all destinations. Enjoy islands hopping, sunbathing on archipelago cliffs, sandy beaches, lakes, wilderness and the thick forest with bright green meadows. Did you know that the sun also shines a little more hours than other places in Sweden? Well, that makes your stay even better. Explore the historic naval base; it's a part of the maritime world heritage. Taste the locally produced food, experience music, arts, crafts and family things to do.
2. Jokkmokk.
Way up in the north of Sweden, above the Arctic Circle, you’ll find Jokkmokk, where Sweden’s indigenous Sami people have roamed the vast expanses of Lapland for centuries and where you’ll find the World Heritage site Laponia. Thousands upon thousands of trails make the area perfect for hiking, while the small town is known for its Winter Market, where you can shop for Sami handicrafts, or enjoy the local food and music. Also make sure to check out the Jokkmokk Alpine Garden, which is bursting with alpine plants.
3. Delsjön.
Delsjön consists of two coherent lakes, Stora Delsjön, and Lilla Delsjön, located in eastern Gothenburg, in the Delsjöområdet nature reserve. They serve as a reservoir for the city, receiving water from the Göta River. At the shore of Stora Delsjön, there is a popular beach. The Delsjö area is home to a nature reserve, big lakes, and stunning woodland. A very short trip from the city center, this is where you go to calm down in nature for a walk, swim or a canoe trip. The lake Stora Delsjön offers a big beach and you can also swim from rocks and bathing platforms. If you're sporty fellow hiking trails and jogging tracks starts from the Skatås fitness center.
4. Tree Hotel.
Living in a tree house is the dream of many a child but in Harads, Sweden you’ll find Tree Hotel, a grown-up version that will blow your childhood fantasies away. Inspired by the 2008 Swedish documentary The Tree Lover, the village of treehouses are suspended four to six meters in the air and each one is unique. From the reflective room to the UFO treehouse, most rooms sleep four to six people and are designed to not just reflect nature but to be fully integrated into it.
5. Kebnekaise.
Part of the Scandinavian Mountains, Kebnekaise is Sweden’s highest mountain, with two peaks. The southern one, which is glaciated, stands at 2 097.5 meters above sea level, while the northern peak, which is ice-free, is just a smidgen shorter, at 2 096.8 meters. The mountain is close to Kiruna and Kungsleden, the hiking trails that run between Abisko and Nikkaloukta. Due to some very inclement weather, a warmer weather visit is recommended and the glacier should be avoided for those who don’t have experience with mountain ice – fatal falls are not unheard of.
6. Kalmar Castle.
Kalmar Castle is found in the town of Kalmar in the ancient province of Småland, which has been inhabited for more than 800 years. Built over the course of more than a decade in the 13th century, the castle was rebuilt in its current design in the 16th century and is considered one of the most significant examples of northern European fortifications in the Renaissance. Archeologists have found traces of ancient burials from the Stone Age, some of which are on display in the castle.
7. Fulufjället National Park.
Fulufjället National Park is a virtually untouched nature area in the southern part of the mountain range. The mountain rises in the landscape as a plateau that has steep sides and is flat on top. No reindeer graze here, so the mountain heath is covered with a thick carpet of lichen. The Njupeskär waterfall is the highest in Sweden, cascading a total of 93 meters with a free fall of 70 meters. For thousands of years, the water has chiseled out a deep canyon. Most of the visitors come to see it. From the top of the falls, you have a fantastic view of the canyon and the landscape.
8. Luleå.
Luleå is the heart of northern Sweden with big city amenities and small-town neighborhood. A real winter wonderland with white expanses and a summery island city that tops the sun league tables year after year. Luleå combines the fascinating nature with culture, shopping, entertainment, good accommodation, and good service.
