Animal protection in China:Black-necked cranes return to breeding grounds
This year's first flock of black-necked cranes recently arrived at Ruoergai Marshes National Nature Reserve in southwest China's Sichuan Province, after a 15-day journey stretching some 800 kilometers.
The black-necked crane, a first-class protected species in China, is the only kind of crane that inhabits and reproduces high on plateaus.
Aside from black-necked cranes, the reserve has seen the return of other migratory birds, with the total number reaching 10,000. Officials believe that the number of migratory birds has increased thanks to the area's improved environment in recent years.

Why Are Half of the Rivers Disappearing in China?
Follow us on TWITTER:
Like us on FACEBOOK:
The first national water census was conducted
by the Chinese Ministry of Water Resources.
It show that rivers in China are disappearing
at the alarming rate of 1,000 per year.
Half of the rivers with catchment areas
over 100 square kilometers have gone.
Environmentalists blame over-exploitation of natural
resources, as well as unsustainable development policies.
These policies come from the Chinese regime, and are the
main causes for rivers disappearing and water shortages.
Increasingly environmental problems
pose threat to Chinese society.
The Chinese Ministry of Water Resources'
has conducted it's first national water census.
It revealed that there are 22,909 rivers with
catchment areas over 100 square kilometers.
This is in comparison to 30 years ago, when
there were more than 50,000 rivers of that size.
Where have the 27,000 rivers gone? This issue
has immediately drawn international attention.
Beijing's environmental protection officials admitted
that the main reason for the decreasing number of
rivers is the excessive development of the rivers.
This includes over-usage of groundwater reserves, the
destruction of the environment, and desertification of forests.
Fan Xiao, water expert and chief engineer of Sichuan
Bureau of Geology and Mineral, commented.
Fan believes China's river issue reflects
the larger scale damage to the environment.
If this continues, the damage will become
irreversible, and organisms will become extinct.
The consequences are frightening.
Fan Xiao, chief engineer of Sichuan
Geology and Mineral Bureau:
With the expansion of cities, construction of businesses
and industrial parks took place on landfills over rivers.
Also, the majority of water conservancy development
is derived from intercepting rivers ,and diverting water.
These constructions either cut off
the river flow or simply kill the river.
The United Nations has listed China as one of
the 13 countries most affected by water scarcity.
Water has become a huge livelihood issue.
Chinese official data shows that effluent discharge
has led to 40% of rivers being seriously polluted.
20% of the rivers have water
quality which is totally unusable.
The Times reported, environmental experts say that
the disappearance of the rivers is a real and a direct
manifestation of headlong, ill-conceived development.
This is where projects are often imposed
or approved without public consultation.
It also said that, large hydroelectric projects such as the
Three Gorges Dam... were likely to have played a role.
Fan Xiao believes the Communist regime's policies
for quick success and a nature of blindly pursuing
interests have over-exploited the rivers.
They are the main culprits for rivers vanishing,
and for environmental deterioration.
Fan Xiao: Current developments in
China are an unsustainable model.
This is at the cost of excessive
consumption of natural resources.
It destructs nature, and causes great pain to the
people. The government is responsible for it.
More than 10 years ago, experts have warned
about the crisis China's rivers were facing.
The pollution of some rivers nearing
disappearance is also shocking.
Recently, more than 16,000 dead pigs
were discovered in Huangpu River.
In addition, thousands of dead
ducks were found in Sichuan river.
This has triggered public discontent
over the threat to water quality.
On March 23, Shanghai residents protested
over the ineffective handling of the dead pigs incident by the authorities.
Protestors walked along the river.
The new Chinese Premier Li Keqiang
pledged more transparent pollution policies.
It is believed that the pollution issue has
become an issue of unrest for the authorities.
Fan Xiao: For at least ten years,
pollution has been a social issue.
Many protests are because of pollution.
It is happening everyday and
getting more and more serious.
The Times commentary has indicated that
the pollution has replaced the land grabbing
issue, and has angered the most Chinese.
It stated, The disappearance of rivers poses
both an environmental and social threat to China.

Here is Where Swans Go For the Winter
More than 400 whooper swans have over the past week flown to a nature reserve in eastern China to spend the winter.
Located in the easternmost end of Shandong Province, the food-rich and largely undisturbed Rongcheng National Nature Reserve provides a winter sanctuary for swans and many other migrant bird species.
As many as 10,000 swans, together with tens of thousands of wild ducks, geese, and other birds, stay at the nature reserve from November to April.
The swans spend the daytime foraging and frolicking in estuaries or shallow shores of the reserve. At night, they gather to rest in inland fields in large flocks.
The reserve management team in Rongcheng provides at least 100 tons of corn for the swans every year.
The birds also have attracted wildlife lovers from across the country.
Swans crossing icy Yellow River for food in N China
Thousands of wild swans were seen walking across floating ice in the Yellow River in Pinglu County, north China. Pinglu is one of the top three winter habitats for swans in China. This winter, around 8,000 wild swans flocked into the river. They are from Siberia and Mongolia.

In a Siberian Tiger's Footsteps. How Siberian tiger was saved from extinction by Russia and China
Each Siberian tiger needs hundreds of square kilometres of hunting territory to itself in order to thrive. This explains why the beasts used to roam freely across the Russia-China border. However by the end of the 20th century, hunters, poachers and loggers destroying its forest habitat had practically eliminated the species in the wild. Since then, the Chinese government has launched a programme aimed at making its territory the home to the largest number of tiger cubs in the world.
Watch full video here:
RTD travels to Hunchun National Nature Reserve to meet the rangers and scientists that protect the tiger’s habitat and monitor its habits. Awesome camera footage shows the tiger enjoying life on its home turf while a former hunter tells the heart-wrenching story of how he changed sides in the battle between humans and wild animals.

Why do the white cranes get tagged?
Researchers recently discovered three tagged white cranes among the migratory birds resting in northeast China's Jilin Momoge National Nature Reserve. Bird banding is an important way to study the migration of wild birds. China, Mongolia and Russia have established banding stations for tracing the migratory routes of white cranes.

Fieldsports Britain - Hunting in China
China: It's where pheasants come from - but it's where hunting sports and guns are banned. That's not what we found. Posing as tourists and using undercover cameras:
+ We join a bunch of local lads to go roughshooting in the mountains
+ We visit a paradise island where millionaires go to relax and shoot rabbits and deer
+ We catch crucian carp in city centre lakes
+ We go to the factories where they make most of your shooting and fishing kit
+ We go berry picking with a girl called Sunshine Sun
+ And we eat everything - meat, feet, guts and backbones
Come and meet the new hunting, shooting and fishing set in China. They are a lot like us.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain

SUMMARY
=======
Beijing (;Mandarin pronunciation: [pèi.tɕíŋ] (listen)), formerly romanized as Peking, is the capital of the People's Republic of China, the world's third most populous city proper, and most populous capital city. The city, located in northern China, is governed as a municipality under the direct administration of central government with 16 urban, suburban, and rural districts. Beijing Municipality is surrounded by Hebei Province with the exception of neighboring Tianjin Municipality to the southeast; together the three divisions form the Jingjinji metropolitan region and the national capital region of China.Beijing is an important world capital and global power city, and one of the world's leading centers for politics, economy and business, finance, education, culture, innovation and technology, architecture, language, and diplomacy. A megacity, Beijing is the second largest Chinese city by urban population after Shanghai and is the nation's political, cultural, and educational center. It is home to the headquarters of most of China's largest state-owned companies and houses the largest number of Fortune Global 500 companies in the world, as well as the world's four biggest financial institutions. It is also a major hub for the national highway, expressway, railway, and high-speed rail networks. The Beijing Capital International Airport has been the second busiest in the world by passenger traffic since 2010, and, as of 2016, the city's subway network is the busiest and second longest in the world.
Combining both modern and traditional architecture, Beijing is one of the oldest cities in the world, with a rich history dating back three millennia. As the last of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China, Beijing has been the political center of the country for most of the past eight centuries, and was the largest city in the world by population for much of the second millennium A.D. Encyclopædia Britannica notes that few cities in the world have served for so long as the political headquarters and cultural center of an area as immense as China. With mountains surrounding the inland city on three sides, in addition to the old inner and outer city walls, Beijing was strategically poised and developed to be the residence of the emperor and thus was the perfect location for the imperial capital. The city is renowned for its opulent palaces, temples, parks, gardens, tombs, walls and gates. It has seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites – the Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, Summer Palace, Ming Tombs, Zhoukoudian, and parts of the Great Wall and the Grand Canal – all popular locatio ...
