Scenic Shuttle Ride in Alaska's Denali National Park
The shuttle driver stopped often on the Park Road for wildlife viewing, photo ops, rest stops and to pick up hikers. The building at the start of the video is the Wilderness Access Center in Denali National Park where shuttle tickets are sold and the shuttles are boarded. The Park Ranger who boarded the shuttle at Mile 14 is about as enthusiastic a Park Ranger as I've ever seen. Clearly loves her job!
The Toklat River at Mile 53 is the final stop for the Toklat shuttle. The Eielson Visitor Center is located at Mile 66 and may be reached by the Eielsen shuttle, which didn't start running this year until June 1. My ride to Toklat was on May 31, 2017. The round trip to Toklat took 6 hours. The round trip to Eielsen by shuttle takes 9 hours. Private vehicles aren't allowed on the Denali Park Road beyond Mile 14.

20150708: Denali Shuttle Bus Tour
Exploring Denali National Park via a Denali Shuttle Bus
The 8th of July 2015, a Wednesday, was our 31st travel day. This video is part 3 of 3, covering our Shuttle Bus Tour of Denali Park on the 8th of July, 2015.
After dropping off the pups at the Tonglen Lake Kennel on the 7th of July, we were on the road early on the 8th of July arriving at the Wilderness Access Center around 07:30 AM. We boarded the tour bus and were on our way into the park shortly after 9:00 AM. The tour lasted for over 8 hours, the weather was mixed from overcast to rain...with a bit of smoke in the air from fires still raging near Fairbanks.
The video covers highlights of the tour, including both video and photographic segments. Of special note: we've included views from Eielson Visitor Center (66 Mile Point) from 3 different days; 6, 7, and 8 July 2015 so that you may get an idea of what to expect. Denali is only visible about 20% of the time! During our tour on the 8th of July, we were NOT able to see Denali. The folks on the 7th of July tour were lucky to see the road beneath them due to the smoke. However...on the 6th of July Denali revealed herself! Too bad we couldn't have booked our trip on the 6th!
Upon returning to the Wilderness Access Center we headed for the Tonglen kennels to retrieve our pups...which enjoyed a bath and a bit of grooming during their stay. We also visited the Tonglen Cafe...picking up a plate of gourmet food for dinner that night...which included reindeer sausage.

DENALI - WikiVidi Documentary
Denali is the highest mountain peak in North America, with a summit elevation of 20310 ft above sea level. With a topographic prominence of 20156 ft and a topographic isolation of 4629 mi, Denali is the third most prominent and third most isolated peak after Mount Everest and Aconcagua. Located in the Alaska Range in the interior of the U.S. state of Alaska, Denali is the centerpiece of Denali National Park and Preserve. The Koyukon people who inhabit the area around the mountain have referred to the peak as Denali for centuries. In 1896, a gold prospector named it Mount McKinley in support of then-presidential candidate William McKinley; that name was the official name recognized by the United States government from 1917 until 2015. In August 2015, following the 1975 lead of the state of Alaska, the U.S. Department of the Interior announced the change of the official name of the mountain to Denali. In 1903, James Wickersham recorded the first attempt at climbing Denali, which...

Alaska trip tips to tour Denali national Park
We came to know a lot of things at Denali which we should have known before coming to Denali, so we decided to have this short video with handy tips which we made while travelling form Access center to our 1st stop on way to Toklat river in Denali national park.
Denali Park Entrance to Savage River 2018
A quick drive through the Parks Highway Denali Park hotel and restaurant services area, followed by a brief walk to the Denali Park Visitor Center, Book Store, Morino Grill, and the Alaska Railroad Denali Park Train Depot. We then drive the 15 miles from the Parks entrance to Savage River which is open to private vehicles during the summer months. Sorry for the dirty windows and bug splatters we were just returning from a trip to Fairbanks and Big Delta. July, 2018.

2015 Denali national park trip - 2 days 1 night Saturday 8/22/2015 (rain on and off)
Arrive at Anchorage airport 9:30pm, the sunset was about 11:30pm.
Drive 3+ hours to Denali National Park and checked into Denali Princess Wilderness Lodge at 4pm on 8/22/2015 Sat. It was raining on and off. 24 hours cancellation for shuttle bus.
We hiked around the Denali Visitor Center for 0.5 mile along the Spruce Forest trail to a bridge and then to a suspension bridge to the small river creek side.
Drove 10 miles west to the savage river and hiked 1 hour for the savage river loop trail (2 miles), there is a road bridge half way for you to make a U turn by crossing the savage river and canyon.
We then drove 1 mile to Mountain Vista (meadow and mountains overlook) on east bound (right side).
On our way back to the Denali Visitor Center we encountered moose on our way back at about mile post 6 of the Denali National Park road.
We then hiked another 2 hours at the Horseshoe lake trail (3.2 miles eachway?) and along Nenana river and back to the parking lot next to the railroad track.
On Sunday 8/23/2015, we took the Green Denali shuttle bus at 6:30am at Wilderness Access Center (mile post 1 on the Denali National Park road) to Eielson Visitor center ($35 each person) for 9 hours (6:30am – 3:30pm). We watched a free short film at the Eielson visitor center to see how people climbed the Mt. McKinley (over 20K feet) – the tallest mountain in North America.
In the 9 hours bus ride, we saw the big 5 animals of the 6 animals. The bus driver commented the last time he saw the Big 5 was 5 years ago, so we were extremely lucky that day.
Going Native Day 13 & 14 Denali NP and Denali to Anchorage
We took an eight hour bus tour of Denali NP. 8 Hours was enough.... Any more and I think I might of found a blunt object to ease the pain. We had a blast at the 49th State Brew Company and they have great food. There is a RV park in walking distance. The town is called Healy and you can catch the shuttle to the Wilderness Access Center. Enjoy the ride.

denali national park visit - 2 of 2 (My tips)
Denali National Park visit TIPS:
1. Get an SUV rental instead of a regular car to be able to ride higher to see the wild animals in Denali National Park.
2. Do not cancel the shuttle bus (24 hours before the trip) even if you know rain is in the forecast.
3. Take the front row seats (behind the bus driver) if possible. Take the left side seats instead of the right side seats going west and leaving the Denali park entrance. Similarly, take the right hand seats coming back to the park entrance.
4. Book the 6:30am or earlier or pm bus to see the Denali National park. You will have better chance to see wild animals than noon time.
5. Charge your photo and video camera battery. Shoot with zoom lenses - 135mm or longer.
6. Bring your binocular (mine was a vanguard 35x10, still not powerful enough to see the Dall Sheep), because they are so high up in the mountain tops.
7. Dress warm and bring your rain coat or umbrella.
8. Get in shape before you visit and hike the park.

Denali National Park
