Hey guys this is my vlog to Willingdon island .It's located in Kochi ,Kerala . Willingdon island is largest man made island in India .It was build by the Britishers back 1936 it was build to develop a modern port in West coast of India here in Kochi.
There is ferry service towards fort kochi, ernakulam ,mattancherry through backwaters of kerala.
You can also see old harbor railway station

Willingdon Island is the largest artificial island in India, which forms part of the city of Kochi, in the state of Kerala. Much of the present Willingdon Island was claimed from the Lake of Kochi, filling in dredged soil around a previously existing, but tiny, natural island. Willingdon Island is significant as the home for the Port of Kochi, as well as the Kochi Naval Base (the Southern Naval Command) of the Indian Navy, Plant Quarantine station, Custom House Cochin and Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, a constituent unit of Indian Council of Agricultural Research.

The main stop at Fort Cochin is called Customs, with another stop at the Mattancherry Jetty near the synagogue. Ferries also run from Mattancherry to Willingdon Island. The jetty on the eastern side of Willingdon Island is called Embarkation; the west one, opposite Mattancherry, is Terminus. One-way fares are ₹4 (₹6 between Ernakulam and Mattancherry). Ferries run to Vypeen Island from Ernakulam and Fort Cochin. Ferries to Bolgatty Island depart from High Court Jetty.

Willingdon Island is the largest artificial island in India situated in the state of Kerala. It is significant as the home for the Port of Kochi. The idea of developing a new port in Kochi was first felt by Sir Robert Bristow, who was appointed by Lord Willingdon, then-the Governor of Madras Presidency, to create a new modern port on the West coast of India at Kochi. The island was created during the construction of modern port in 1936, with the soil dredged out while deepening the Vembanad Lake to accommodate the new port. It was named after the 1st Earl of Willingdon, the Viceroy of India at the time, who commissioned the project.

കൊച്ചിയുടെ കാഴ്ച്ചകളിൽ ഏറ്റവും ഭംഗിയുള്ള ഒരു കാഴ്ച്ചയാണ് കായൽതീരത്ത് വന്നടുക്കുന്ന കപ്പലുകൾ. എണ്ണക്കപ്പലുകളായാലും, വിദേശനിർമിത ആഡംബരക്കപ്പലുകളായാലും ദൂരെ നിന്ന് നോക്കിക്കാണാൻ കുഞ്ഞുനാളിലെന്ന പോലെ ഇപ്പോഴും ഒരു പ്രത്യേക കൌതുകമാണ്. ആ ഒരു കൗതുകത്തിന്റെ പുറത്ത് കുട്ടിയാത്രയുമായി ഇന്ന് എത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നത് വെല്ലിങ്ടൺ ഐലൻഡിൽ ആണ്. അതിന്റെ പിന്നിലെ ഒരു പ്രധാന കാരണം ആഡംബരകപ്പലായ 'കോസ്റ്റ വിക്റ്റോറിയ' 2020 മാർച്ച് 4 വരെ കൊച്ചിയിൽ നിന്ന് സർവീസ് നടത്താൻ പോകുകയാണ് എന്ന വാർത്തയാണ്. 964 മുറികൾക്ക് പുറമെ മൂന്ന് നീന്തൽ കുളങ്ങളും അഞ്ച് റെസ്റ്റോറന്റുകളും 10 ബാറുകളും മറ്റ് ആഡംബരങ്ങളുമുള്ള കപ്പലിൽ മൂന്ന് ദിവസം താമസിച്ചു ആഴക്കടലിന്റെ കാഴ്ച്ചകൾ കാണാൻ 26000 രൂപയാണ് ചിലവ്. അത്രയ്ക്കൊന്നും പറ്റിയില്ലെങ്കിലും കപ്പലൊന്ന് കാണാനും കുട്ടിപട്ടാളങ്ങൾക്ക് ദൂരെ നിന്നെങ്കിലും കാട്ടിക്കൊടുക്കാനും വേണ്ടിയാണ് വെല്ലിങ്ടൺ ഐലണ്ടിലേക്ക് പോയത്.
വെല്ലിങ്ടൺ ഐലണ്ടിനെ കുറിച്ച് പറയാതെ തന്നെ അറിയാല്ലോ. ഇന്ത്യയിലെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ മനുഷ്യനിർമ്മിത ദ്വീപാണിത്. 800 ഏക്കർ വിസ്തൃതിയുള്ള ഈ ദ്വീപിന്റെ നിർമാണത്തിൽ ഒരു വലിയ പങ്ക് വഹിച്ച ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് വൈസ്റോയി ലോർഡ് വെല്ലിങ്ടണിന്റെ പേരിലാണ് ഈ ദ്വീപ് അറിയപ്പെടുന്നതെങ്കിലും ഈ ദ്വീപിനെക്കുറിച്ച് പറയുമ്പോ ഉറപ്പായും നമ്മളോർക്കേണ്ട മറ്റൊരാളുണ്ട്. റോബർട്ട് ചാൾസ് ബ്രിസ്റ്റോ എന്ന ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് എഞ്ചിനീയർ. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ദീർഘവീക്ഷണവും, അധ്വാനവുമാണ് 1936 ൽ കൊച്ചിയെ ഒരു വൻ തുറമുഖപട്ടണമാക്കി മാറ്റയത്. അത് വരെ കൊച്ചിതീരത്തേക്ക് വന്നിരുന്ന കപ്പലുകൾ തുറമുഖത്തു നിന്ന് നാല് കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെ പുറങ്കടലിൽ ആണ് നങ്കൂരമിട്ടിരുന്നത്. തുറമുഖത്തേക്ക് ചരക്കെത്തിച്ചിരുന്നത് പത്തേമാരികളിലായിരുന്നു. റോബർട്ട് ബ്രിസ്റ്റോയും സംഘവും
വലിയ കപ്പലുകൾക്ക് തുറമുഖത്തേക്ക് അടുക്കാൻ തടസമായി നിന്നിരുന്ന മണൽത്തിട്ട വെട്ടിമുറിച്ച് കടലിലേക്ക് ചാൽ കീറി, കൊച്ചിക്കായലിലെ മണ്ണ് കോരിമാറ്റി അഴിമുഖത്തിന്റെ ആഴം കൂട്ടി. ഇങ്ങനെ കിട്ടിയ മണ്ണും ചെളിയും കൊണ്ട് ഒരു കൃത്രിമ ദ്വീപ് തന്നെ നിർമ്മിച്ചെടുക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. അതാണ് നമ്മളിന്ന് കാണുന്ന ഈ വെല്ലിങ്ടൺ ഐലൻഡ്.
