5 Things to do in Leavenworth
Leavenworth is a Bavarian themed village in the Cascade Mountains of Washington State. Alpine style buildings and German beer rule here. The town is 117 miles east of Seattle and serves as a gateway to popular nearby ski resorts.
Here are 5 things to do on a day trip to Leavenworth beyond the obvious touristy choices:
1. Go wine tasting. Leavenworth is quickly emerging as one of the regions top wine hot spots. Wine tasting rooms are everywhere.
2. Grab a craft beer at Icicle Brewing Company. They use local ingredients sourced from Washington State. Enjoy it in the beer garden any time of year.
3. Take a tour of the Bavarian themed murals around town.
4. Check out the Farmers Market if you're there on a Thursday from June-October.
5. Dine at a local restaurant. We chose Watershed, a farm to table cafe serving Pacific Northwest cuisine.

Icicle Ridge Winery, Leavenworth, Washington
Icicle Ridge Winery is located in Peshastin, Washington on the outskirts of Leavenworth, Washington. The winery is in a very nice location with Icicle Ridge in view from the 5,000 square foot log home, now turned into a wine tasting home. We had the chance to try a couple of different wines, but I decided on The Blondes Gewurztraminer. Nice outside seating with a very friendly staff. We were even offered a tour of the wine cellar before leaving. The Wenatchee River winds through a deep canyon near by that can be seen at the edge of the wineries property.
Yakima Valley, Washington's Wine Country- Desert Wind Winery
Located a the eastern end of the Yakima Valley, Prosser is home to over 30 wineries boasting some of Washington States most revered labels and winemakers.
Conveniently located just off I-82, Desert Wind Winery offers visitors a full wine country experience. Inspired by the Southwest, the architecture is distinct and reflects the desert climate and landscape of the region.
The tasting room is inviting with cozy chairs, and a massive stone fireplace. Guests are offered complimentary wine tasting and welcome to purchase gift items, gourmet foods and of course Desert Wind wines.
The winery also has luxurious guestrooms available year round to relax in after a busy day of wine tasting.

Washington | Leavenworth and Dragontail Peak
If you've never been to a Bavarian town before, it's quite a simple concept. It's a whole town comprised of Bavarian style architecture, food, and attractions. The economy is largely tourism based and you're either going to love it for it's kitschy pseudo-european charm or be repelled by it's inherent phoniness. In the case of Leavenworth, Washington the location in the heart of some of the most enchanting landscapes in the U.S. makes it pretty much impossible to hate.
I used the word 'enchanting' for a reason. Mere miles away is an incredible area known as the Enchantments. It's home to dramatic peaks, sparkling glaciers, and gleaming water that looks like some kind of rare gemstone. Certainly one of the most astounding places we've ever visited.

Cody's 24th Birthday Weekend - Lake Chelan & Leavenworth
Since Cody's birthday fell on a weekend this year, I had to take the opportunity to plan a weekend away. He's always told me about visiting Lake Chelan during his childhood, and how he's wanted to go back for a long time. So, I figured this would be the perfect opportunity. Happy 24th birthday babe.
We stayed at Grandview On The Lake. I highly recommend that hotel.
Wine tasting happened at Tsillan Cellars just down the street. We also had dinner that night at their Sorrento's Ristorante. I also highly recommend both establishments as well.
For bikes in Leavenworth, we rented from the Leavenworth Outdoor Center, which was very helpful and has lots of equipment for outdoor adventures there for a very affordable price.
