Winston Churchill Statue - London
Here next to Big Ben stands the famous statue of Winston Churchill.
Winston Churchill: How is the great leader of WW2 remembered today?
Winston Churchill died 50 years ago, on 24 January 1965. Widely regarded as one of the greatest wartime leaders of the 20th century, Churchill served as prime minister of the United Kingdom from 1940 to 1945 and again from 1951 to 1955.
But how much do people know about Churchill today? By his statue in Parliament Square, IBTimes UK spoke to members of the public to find out their views on a man widely regarded as one of the greatest Britons of all time.

LONDON, ENGLAND - BIG BEN AND WINSTON CHURCHILL MEMORIAL
Touring around the iconic BIG BEN was one of the highlights of our trip to London. Tourists abound but the bustling city of London is amazing to wander through on a pleasant summer day. We were surrounded by history in the buildings and it brought to life all the memories I had of studying London through the various stages many of which have left an indelible mark.

Vandals cover London’s Bomber Command war memorial and Churchill statue in paint | ITV News
Police are investigating after vandals covered a statue of Sir Winston Churchill and a war memorial in paint.
The damage to the Bomber Command Memorial in London's Green Park and the statue of the Second World War prime minister in the capital's New Bond Street was discovered on Monday morning.
Both of the statues had been splashed with white paint, Scotland Yard said.
The RAF Benevolent Fund said it was the fourth time in six years that the bomber memorial had been sabotaged and that the white gloss paint remained wet at daybreak when it was discovered.

UK: LONDON: ANTI-CAPITALIST PROTEST WRAP
English/Nat
Anti-capitalist protesters clashed with police on Monday in central London after vandalising parts of the city.
They tore down the golden arches of a McDonald's and spray-painted a hammer and sickle on a statue of Winston Churchill.
The Cenotaph war memorial was also attacked, prompting the British Prime Minister Tony Blair to call the people responsible an absolute disgrace.
Some of the worst clashes between police and protesters happened in Kennington Park.
This group of protesters broke away from the main gathering in Parliament Square and entered running battles with the police.
In all three police officers and nine civilians were taken to a local hospital and nine other policemen suffered minor injuries.
Forty two people were arrested.
Violence also broke out at Whitehall - here a cameraman was set upon by a group of protesters.
Police tried to control the crowd, restricting them for much of the day to the area around Trafalgar Square.
Demonstrators threw stones and other objects near Prime Minister Tony Blair's official residence at Downing Street, where a dozen officers in riot gear took up positions.
The protesters then stormed a nearby branch of McDonald's, breaking windows, tearing
down the large M sign and distributing food.
They also defaced a statue of former Prime Minister Winston Churchill and daubed anti-war slogans on the Cenotaph war memorial.
Nelson's Column in Trafalgar Square was painted with anarchy symbols and Reclaim the Streets 2000 after the group which organised the rally.
As darkness began to fall, the protesters were gradually dispersed by the police who took them across Waterloo Bridge to the south bank of the Thames.
There once again the authorities penned them in.
The police claim they handled the situation well.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
It has been a very difficult policing operation but I think it's been professional and proportionate. We have tried throughout this to make sure that we weren't over reacting but because of the irresponsibility of the organisers it's been very difficult to estimate how many people were going to be involved so we have had to have more officers than originally I would have liked to have had on duty today. But we've kept them in reserve and only brought them in when absolutely necessary.
SUPER CAPTION: Michael Todd, Assistant Commissioner, Metropolitan Police
With the protesters gone, the clean up operation began.
Boards were placed around the defaced statue of Churchill as the streets were cleaned and barricades removed.
Fresh wreaths of poppies were brought to the Cenotaph war memorial by police.
Similar violence happened last June when another anti-capitalist march brought havoc to the financial district of London.
