Winter's Jazz Club - October 4th-10th Featuring Denise Thimes Quintet
Chicago’s home for straight-ahead, classic, Live Jazz,
6 nights a week — with an emphasis on singers.
While straight-ahead Jazz is our primary focus, we also love and happily present trad-Jazz, Gypsy-Jazz, swing, big band, New Orleans-style, and other cousins of the genre.
Our mission is simple: To perpetuate the joy of live Jazz by presenting the best interpretations of the best arrangements of the best songs in the canon of classic Jazz (and slightly beyond).
Above all, Winter’s strives to be a listening room.

Shanghai Jazz opened in October 1995 and has been named One of the Top 100 Great Jazz Clubs in the World. We have earned rave reviews for our food, service and ambience from the New York Times, Star Ledger, Zagat Survey and Inside New Jersey. Our
philosophy is warm hospitality, gourmet Asian cuisine inspired by the seasons, a well-focused wine list and a full bar with almost a dozen beers on tap, including our own micro-brew Shanghai Jazz Ale. And of course exceptional value. We are proud to present world class artists 6 nights a week with no music charge except for special events.
Owners Martha Chang and David Niu returned to Martha's hometown of Madison, New Jersey after traveling, working and studying in Asia with the aid of a Fulbright fellowship. Inspired by Shanghai in the 1920s and 30s, when it was known as the Paris of
the Orient, we have sought to create a jazz club infused with Jazz and Joy.
At Shanghai Jazz, we are delighted and honored to share our love of Great American jazz, regional Asian specialties and fine wine with you. Whether you enjoy dim sum and cocktails in our Long Oak Bar, an intimate dinner with family and friends, or a unique social or corporate gathering, we look forward to welcoming you to our home.

Twice deeper than the Yellow Sea to Korea worth half the area. The lake is relaxing and gives vitality to the people of Chicago. I have this joke of Chicago. There are but two seasons in Chicago. Mike Jeffers got his start in music when he was in high school and began performing with the College Jazz Ensemble and Percussion Ensemble at the age of 17. Jeffers quickly learned how to play 4 mallet marimba, drumset, timpani and vibes which enabled him at the age of 19 to perform with an ensemble at the legendary Carnegie Hall in New York.
He continued studying percussion and attended the University of North Texas and was accepted with a full percussion scholarship to the school of music. Jeffers performed in the World Championship Drumline at UNT as well as with numerous ensembles, combos and groups. At the age of 23 he left school to pursue his passion in drumset performance.
Upon moving back to Chicago he needed to find away to meet musicians in Chicago and start to make connections. For two years he basically worked a day job and sat in every night at every club he could. He was able to perform with hundreds of musicians throughout those years and he quickly began to start working with different groups throughout the city.
As Jeffers started performing throughout the city he noticed the incredible talent on Chicago's jazz scene wasn't being promoted to the rest of the country. He wanted to do something that would help the music scene in Chicago compete with New York and Los Angeles. In the year 2000 he purchased the domain, and began writing an online magazine as well offering profile websites for musicians on the site. Within just 6 months he was getting thousands of hits on the site from all around the world.
The interest in the Chicago Jazz scene was larger than he thought so he decided to take it one step further and in 2002 he launched a print magazine, Chicago Jazz Magazine. Since that time every two months Chicago Jazz Magazine is published and distributed throughout the city and suburbs. In addition his company, Chicago Jazz Publishing and Entertainment, also publishes the official program books for the city of Chicago Blues Festival and Jazz Festival.
In addition to publishing Chicago Jazz Publishing and Entertainment also contracts jazz groups for corporate events, festivals and weddings throughout the country through the website
