Camping in Winthrop Washington, Cascade Mountains
We are camping in the beautiful Cascade Mountains in Washington State. Our family adventure through the Cascade Loop begins with spending a few days in Winthrop, Wa. Winthrop is an old mining town with lots to see and do. We also visited the Winthrop National Fish Hatchery and the Shafer Museum. We camped at the local KOA in Winthrop and when tubing down the Methow river. Lots a fun !
Vacationing in Washington - Sun Mountain Lodge, Winthrop, Washington
Winthrop is a quaint little town on the east side of the North Cascade Mountains in Washington. It was fairly thriving as a mining town in the late 1800s, but by 1915 most of the mines had shut down and the town was pretty much abandoned. But in the late 1960s Washington state highway 20 was nearing completion, and a group of businessmen decided to rebuild Winthrop as it existed around 1900. In other words, nowadays it's pretty much a tourist trap. But still a lot of fun. Winthrop pics in other posting.
The pictures in this video were taken during our stay at a resort called Sun Mountain Lodge which is about 15 miles south of Winthrop. Fantastic views of the North Cascades. A truly delightful place. Unfortunately we were only able to spend one night there. Here's some pics I took..

Let's Hike - Mt. Si, WA USA - 31 May 2014, Sunny
On 31 May 2014 my Dad and I did our first hike of Mt. Si on a rare sunny weekend day in the Puget Sound. This video summarizes the hike up to the summit of Mt. Si and around the top. This time we did less feeding of the gray jays, and were able to feed them by hand. We did not ascend the Haystack, although we did get a feel for that ascent and decided to not risk our lives for it. Not shown in this video is a nasty cramp I go in the last mile up the hike, though next time I will try to get some more footage of me in pain for those of you who enjoy that sort of thing :-P
Mount Si WTA page (includes additional details on the hike):
This video was actually built and synced pretty well to 2 music tracks. 1 was blocked by YouTube for a copyright claim from the label owning the music and that block muted the entire video. That really disappointed me. Moving forward, I'm not going to invest any time in adding music to videos (and ad free ones at that!). Given the risk of copyright claims now or in the future, it is just not worth the effort.
Recorded using a Sony HDR-AS100V with a Live View Remote:
Contrary to the hike prior, for this hike I did not mount the camera to my head using a Sony BLTUHM1 Universal Head Mount for Action Cam.
Video edited using Windows Movie Maker (this latter program is the source of occasional FPS drops in the video).

The Power Of Public Lands: The North Cascades
More than just the National Parks, Gabe Rogel's public lands project uses dramatic and inspiring visuals to reveal the power of lesser-known public spaces and their benefits for everyone. Shooting on the ground, on the water and in the air, Rogel used the with Sony FS5, FS7 and α7S II cameras (cameras were mounted to a DJI Matrice drone for much of the dramatic aerial imagery).

SUMMARY
=======
Boston is the capital and most populous municipality of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the United States. The city proper covers 48 square miles (124 km2) with an estimated population of 685,094 in 2017, making it also the most populous city in the New England region. Boston is the seat of Suffolk County as well, although the county government was disbanded on July 1, 1999. The city is the economic and cultural anchor of a substantially larger metropolitan area known as Greater Boston, a metropolitan statistical area (MSA) home to a census-estimated 4.8 million people in 2016 and ranking as the tenth-largest such area in the country. As a combined statistical area (CSA), this wider commuting region is home to some 8.2 million people, making it the sixth-largest in the United States.Boston is one of the oldest cities in the United States, founded on the Shawmut Peninsula in 1630 by Puritan settlers from England. It was the scene of several key events of the American Revolution, such as the Boston Massacre, the Boston Tea Party, the Battle of Bunker Hill, and the Siege of Boston. Upon gaining U.S. independence from Great Britain, it continued to be an important port and manufacturing hub as well as a center for education and culture. The city has expanded beyond the original peninsula through land reclamation and municipal annexation. Its rich history attracts many tourists, with Faneuil Hall alone drawing more than 20 million visitors per year. Boston's many firsts include the United States' first public park (Boston Common, 1634), first public or state school (Boston Latin School, 1635) and first subway system (Tremont Street Subway, 1897).The Boston area's many colleges and universities make it an international center of higher education, including law, medicine, engineering, and business, and the city is considered to be a world leader in innovation and entrepreneurship, with nearly 2,000 startups. Boston's economic base also includes finance, professional and business services, biotechnology, information technology, and government activities. Households in the city claim the highest average rate of philanthropy in the United States; businesses and institutions rank among the top in the country for environmental sustainability and investment. The city has one of the highest costs of living in the United States as it has undergone gentrification, though it remains high on world livability rankings.
