Galway Night Time-lapse, Ireland
A beautiful evening in Galway on one of the last nights of 2017. This was captured by the Wolfe Tone Bridge, where River Corrib enters Galway Bay, close to Claddagh area of Galway and the Latin Quarters.

Walking Ireland | Galway City | The Long Walk to O'Briens Bridge
Irish weather is pretty much unpredictable like today's walk was having a little bit of shower. Had to wait a while for the rain to settle.
The walk started from The Long Walk street a coastal street. This stretch to the Spanish Arc where a lady busker is entertaining tourists and locals.
Walking continuously until reaching Wolfe Tone Bridge. Have to cross the other side at your own risk. Busy street for motorist and crowd as it is near to the Quay street, Galway's entertainment street.
After crossing, will start the trail along River Corrib. Lucky for those living in this area, they will have the river view, hearing the sound of the running water, and can take a nice morning or evening walk everyday along the river.
Very scenic and mainly designed for individuals who loves taking stroll. Video ends at the O'Briens Bridge.

The Fisheries Tower, Galway, 2012
The Fisheries Tower in Galway (sometimes called the Fishery Tower, Watchtower, and Tower Station - all are correct) is thought to be the only building of its kind in Ireland. It's beside Wolfe Tone Bridge (the final bridge over the river Corrib, before the Corrib opens out into Galway Bay, and the Atlantic), and only an ass's roar from The Spanish Arch, Quay Street, and the medieval heart of Galway city. According to Galway Civic Trust,
...it was built in 1852/53 by the Ashworth family, who at that time had assumed the ownership of the Galway Fishery. Originally built as a draft netting station, it also served as a look-out Tower for Fishery personnel to monitor fish stocks coming up the River. Its central location and panoramic views also allowed fishery personnel to keep a close eye on illegal fishing activity along the River.
I spent a very happy month in the Fisheries Tower, in late 2006, looking after Anne Marie Fives' marvelous exhibition of sculptures, Invisible Friends. The tower, being a simple Victorian workspace, is somewhat lacking in amenities; there's no plumbing, for example, but there is a slipway out the back door, where you can go and pee discreetly in the river. There is entertainment, watching cormorants swallowing rats alive on the mudflats at low tide. And there is the constant, soothing, white noise of the ever-roaring river running just below the drafty windows.
If you're interested in what it's made out of, here's Galway Civic Trust again:
The ground floor of the Tower is built in stone, with the first and second floors built of brick. The brick used would have originally been used as ballast on the many cargo ships which plied their trade out of Galway. The ballast was offloaded onto the quay walls when the ship was loaded with a new cargo and the bricks were re-cycled and used in the construction of local buildings such as the Fishery Tower.
I took this video in the summer of 2012, just before they demolished the rickety bridge to the tower's front door. Ireland being bust, the bridge has not yet been replaced, and so the front door now opens ten feet above the river, and there is no safe or legal way in or out. Already lost in time, it is now lost in space. It's still there; but you can't get to it. A fitting symbol, perhaps, for a modern Ireland that cut itself free of the past in order to leap into the future; but whose leap fell short.
A bridge will be built again, one day. Ireland will recover. A glorious future no doubt lies ahead of us.
But for now, you can't get there from here.

Beware of the Gliomach!
Over the winter of 2013, Galway City Musuem worked animator Edith Pieperhoff and a group of teenagers from across Galway, to research, write and develop a series of short stop-motion animations relating to the historic Claddagh Village.
Here our animators - Aoife, Jonathan & Rachel - bring to life a folktale about a Gliomach - a lobster - which lives under the Claddagh Bridge (Wolfe Tone Bridge) and torments the men of the Claddagh. Is the story true or is it a clever ruse by the women of the Claddagh?

Flood and high tide in Ireland. Storm in January 2014
The highest tide on record impacted Dublin city today. The River Liffey burst its banks earlier this afternoon near Guinness Storehouse and Heuston Station, choking up traffic on the quays
Millions of euro worth of damage was done as high tides and gale force winds battered communities in Dublin, Galway, Clare, Mayo, Cork, Donegal and Kerry.
County councils around the country were on high alert today as staff worked to make floodwaters retreat and prevent damage to businesses and homes.
Clare County Council will spend €50,000 on a preliminary clean-up in Lahinch after the small tourist village was battered by the storm.
Seawalls and footpaths were broken by the sheer force of rushing seawater. It is estimated that millions of euro worth of damage has been caused in total.
A major clean-up operation is underway in the western areas after high tides caused extensive flooding this morning.
Homes and businesses in Dublin city escaped damage, when the River Liffery rose to the highest tide of record.
The river burst its banks near Guinness Storehouse and Heuston Station this afternoon. Wolfe Tone and Victoria quays were closed for an hour but they were reopened as council staff pumped the floodwater off the roads.
The East Link Bridge was closed for a number of hours this afternoon, but it is now back open. The Strand Road in Sandymount also reopened following high tide.
