We are Wood Green
We are proud to be the pet charity that makes a difference to the lives of pets and people across the UK. Always striving to bring pets and people closer together. Our vision is of a world where all pets are well cared for in loving homes for life. Here's a short film about what we do.
Vincent the Dutch ferret!
Animal charity Wood Green has launched a nationwide appeal to reunite a Dutch ferret with his owner.
The 18-month-old ferret was discovered by staff in an aircraft hangar at Marshall Aerospace and Defence Group in Newmarket Road, Cambridge on Sunday evening.
Vincent, as he has been named by animal carers at Wood Green, was brought to the Charity's Godmanchester Centre in Cambridgeshire on Monday where he was checked over by a vet and scanned for a microchip.
Staff at the centre were surprised to discover the chip was registered in the Netherlands but have been unsuccessful in tracking down Vincent's owner.
It is thought the plucky pet could have boarded a plane travelled the hour long flight to Cambridge.
Head of Small Animals at Wood Green, Marie Channer said: We know from Vincent's veterinary check that he is a well-cared for pet and it is quite likely a family out there are missing him dearly.
The problem we have is that we don't know whether Vincent has managed to find his way to the UK on his own or whether his family have in fact moved over with him.
Vincent is a bright and playful ferret and we hope that by appealing to the public we will be able to reunite him with his family as soon as possible.
Group Support Executive at Marshall of Cambridge, Terry Holloway said: This is an absolute 'first' for us in the 104 year history of Marshall, to have discovered a ferret in an aircraft hangar! However, there are very strict rules about transportation of animals to the United Kingdom and, when we discovered Vincent came from the Netherlands, we advised that the UK Border Agency should be notified.
Darwin airlines will be commencing scheduled flights from Cambridge to Amsterdam on September 2 so we may be able to help him with his return flight to Holland!
Vincent will be cared for at Wood Green until his owner comes forward or he is rehomed to a new family.
Wood Green contacted officials from the UK Border Agency who confirmed that Vincent could be made available for rehoming once his seven day stray time was up.
Wood Green makes 'One Small Hop' for rabbits
ONE SMALL HOP FOR PET OWNERS - ONE GIANT LEAP FOR RABBIT KIND
Wood Green, The Animals Charity is supporting a campaign to encourage owners of the UK's one million pet rabbits to make one rabbit resolution to improve their bunnies' health.
Rabbit Awareness Week (RAW) launches tomorrow with the 'One Small Hop' campaign to highlight the health and welfare of Britain's pet bunnies.
According to the UK's leading veterinary charity, PDSA, nearly two thirds of pet owners are unaware of the five key welfare needs of their pets. These are the five things that all pets need to be healthy and happy, and which all pet owners now have a legal duty to provide. This year's campaign looks to simplify the steps pet owners can take to improve rabbit welfare. The 'One Small Hop' campaign aims to educate and encourage bunny lovers to make one rabbit resolution to improve their bunnies' health and wellbeing.
Vet practices, rescue centres and major pet retailers are backing the 'One Small Hop' RAW campaign by providing free advice to owners on meeting their rabbits' five welfare needs: diet; environment; companionship; behaviour and health. Vet practices will open their doors to the nation's pet bunnies, with many offering free health checks; retailers will have educational events and in-store promotions; and rescue centres will host open days to help pet owners hop to it.
Rabbit owners can hop over to one of Wood Green's Centres this month to receive a FREE MOT. Each rabbit will receive a skin, weight and health check, nail clipping and free advice.
Godmanchester Centre - May 13th
Northampton Centre - May 14th

German Chancellor Declares Christians 'Most Persecuted'.
Christianity is the most persecuted religion in the world. To anyone aware of world events, this passing comment by German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, is an obvious fact. Several human rights organizations from the German Green Party to the UN Human Rights Council's Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religious Belief declared her comment to be totally senseless, misguided. and based on occasionally rumoured numbers.
Open Doors, highly respected Christian international aid society, countered that 80% of the religiously persecuted worldwide were Christian, some 100 million people. Their list of 50 most religiously repressive regimes fall primarily in two categories: Muslim or Marxist-legacy.
