Winsome Tours Bermuda Visits St George - a UNESCO World Heritage Site
One of our tour highlights is the 17th century reenactment, which takes place from Monday through Thursday each day at noon during the summer. It is a great show and is based on actual 17th century events. This is the old town of St George at its best.
Historic Town of St. George, Bermuda
Our walk through the historic Town of St. George, Bermuda, starts on Water Street, a popular shopping and dining area of the old town which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In King's Square we can see the Town Hall with its ducking stool. Crossing to Ordinance Island we discover a replica of the Deliverance. The pilot vessel St. David is also tied up at the island. Next we get a sight of the Spirit of St. George, a catamaran tender that takes Norwegian Cruise Line visitors between the West End Cruise Terminal and the old town. We then proceed to the State House, which was Bermuda's first legislature and dates from 1620. Our stroll takes us to the East end of Water Street and then on to the monument to Admiral Sir George Somers who is responsible for the island's settlement. Our stroll then takes us through the narrow alleys of St. George where we can see the tower of the Catholic Stella Maris Church rising up above the white washed roofs of the charming cottages. We pass the Lili Perfumery and explore more alleys before arriving at St. Peter's Anglican Church. It was established in 1612 and it is the oldest Protestant church in continuous use in the New World. The walk ends in the church yard with its blooms of bougainvillea and fragrant frangipani.

The Town of St George, founded in 1612, is an outstanding example of the earliest English urban settlement in the New World. Its associated fortifications graphically illustrate the development of English military engineering from the 17th to the 20th century, being adapted to take account of the development of artillery over this period.

2017 a brief walkabout in St George's BERMUDA video taken September 2013 4K
The Old Town of St. George's in Bermuda was founded in 1612 and that makes it the oldest inhabited town in the New World. Jamestown, Virginia was founded in 1607 but nowadays it isn't a living town like St. George's with its shops and houses in which Bermudians have lived happily for hundreds of years. The Town has now been declared a World Heritage Site and as such is protected from ruin by modern development. The result is a quiet and quaint maze of streets, museums, churches and restaurants on the shore of a beautiful harbour dotted with equally fascinating little islands each with its own story. Come and visit this historically charming gem and experience immense fun as you walk around the leafy alleys and byways or explore on your rented scooter. If you get too hot there are excellent public beaches just over the hill!
St. George Travel Doc Part 02
The island which the native Caribbeans call Camohagne was discovered by Christopher Columbus during his third trip in 1498. he called in Conception. Later it was rebaptized Grenada by the Spanish. The capital of St. Georges is one of the most beautiful ports in the Caribbean with its 18 th and 19 th century buildings, in a mixture of bricks and stone, which flow down to the sea. St. Georges unfolds like an amphitheater over green hills on one side and the headland on the other, which splits the town into two and shelters the port, one of the most agreeable moorings in the Caribbean.
