WORLI FORT(वरळी किल्ला) | SEA LINK | MUMBAI FORT By Vaibhav Mohite Travel Vlogs
The Worli Fort is a fort built by the British in Worli, Mumbai, India The fort, often mistakenly referred to as being built by the Portuguese, was built by the British around 1675. The fort, built on the Worli hill, overlooked the Mahim Bay at a time the city was made up of just seven islands. It was used as a lookout for enemy ships and pirates.
A lovely place to visit. The open view from the terrace of the fort is fabulous. The almost entire part of Bandra-Worli sea link is visible clearly. Also, one can see the panoramic view of the sea link along with the Mahin Bay.

WORLI FORT (वरळी किल्ला) - MUMBAI - HISTORICAL PLACES WITH YOGI
THE WORLI FORT (वरळी किल्ला) IS A FORT BUILT BY THE BRITISH IN WORLI, MUMBAI, INDIA.
THE FORT, OFTEN MISTAKENLY REFERRED TO AS BEING BUILT BY THE PORTUGUESE, WAS ACTUALLY BUILT BY THE BRITISH AROUND 1675. THE FORT, BUILT ON THE WORLI HILL, OVERLOOKED THE MAHIM BAY AT A TIME THE CITY WAS MADE UP OF JUST SEVEN ISLANDS. IT WAS USED AS A LOOKOUT FOR ENEMY SHIPS AND PIRATES
THE WORLI FORT DOES NOT ATTRACT MANY TOURISTS BECAUSE OF THE SURROUNDING FISHING AREAS.
THE FORT IS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WORLI FISHING VILLAGE THAT MAKES THE FOR QUITE INACCESSIBLE.
ONE MUST APPRECIATE THE GREAT VISION OF THE BRITISH ADMINISTRATORS WHO COULD REALIZE THE DANGER THAT ONE MIGHT FACE BECAUSE OF THE GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION OF THE PLACE
IT SEEMS THAT THE GOVERNMENT HAS NOT TAKEN ANY STEPS TO PROTECT THE FORT FROM ITS NATURAL DEATH. THE FORT IS A SPECIAL ATTRACTION FOR HISTORIANS WHO WANTS TO ENRICH THEIR KNOWLEDGE BY VISITING THE VARIOUS HISTORICAL PLACES.

WORLI FORT BEAUTIFUL INDIA MUMBAI
Today, Worli is one of the prime hubs for commercial activity, construction of residential and commercial real estate and one of the resurgent parts of Bombay city!
Worli was one of the original seven islands that constituted the city of Mumbai. Although primarily a fishing village, the Worli Fort, a British fort that is now in ruins, is located there. Its original resident was the legendary Dishankeshwar Kalsi who has also been recognized in several periodicals of the time as India's first homosexual stage performer. Kalsi's lavanis were popular across the western coast of India and he was known to perform questionable acts on stage with his pet goat. He was eventually shot dead by a British soldier, allegedly his lover, when he caught Dishankeshwar in a compromising position with a rooster.
Mumbai formerly known as Bombay in English, is the capital of the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is the most populous city in India, and the fourth most populous city in the world, with a total metropolitan area population of approximately 20.5 million. Along with the neighbouring urban areas, including the cities of Navi Mumbai and Thane, it is one of the most populous urban regions in the world. Mumbai lies on the west coast of India and has a deep natural harbour. In 2009, Mumbai was named an Alpha world city. Mumbai is also the richest city in India, and has the highest GDP of any city in South, West or Central Asia.
The seven islands that came to constitute Mumbai were home to communities of fishing colonies. For centuries, the islands were under the control of successive indigenous empires before being ceded to the Portuguese and subsequently to the British East India Company. During the mid-18th century, Mumbai was reshaped by the Hornby Vellard project, which undertook the reclamation of the area between the seven constituent islands from the sea. Completed by 1845, the project along with construction of major roads and railways transformed Bombay into a major seaport on the Arabian Sea. Economic and educational development characterised the city during the 19th century. It became a strong base for the Indian independence movement during the early 20th century. When India became independent in 1947, the city was incorporated into Bombay State. In 1960, following the Samyukta Maharashtra movement, a new state of Maharashtra was created with Bombay as capital. The city was renamed Mumbai in 1996.

Worli Fort has undergone a total face-lift but in the process its ancient looks have totally disappeared, resembling more of a Disneyland artificial fort rather than an edifice over 300 years old.
The Bandra-Worli Sea Link bridge named Rajiv Gandhi Setu was inaugurated by United Progressive Alliance Chairperson and Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday(30-6-2009) and can be viewed in its totality from the Worli Fort, a configuration of ancient and modern architectural marvels.Hope Worli fort gets some tourist attention after construction of the Bandra-worli Sealink as it provides a grand spectacle from its summit of the entire Mumbai bay .Strangely, this fort was totally neglected and crumbling, although situated in prime Mumbai with a fishing village that is unique to bustling populated Mumbai.
