This is WYNWOOD Miami. What To Do + Where To Eat ????Tour the Wynwood Walls.
We spend an afternoon exploring one of the trendiest and up and coming neighbourhoods of Miami, Wynwood District!
We start off walking through the streets to see all the graffiti and made our way to Wynwood Walls. Wynwood Walls features street art from artists all around the the world and has one of the largest concentrations of street art in one place that we’ve ever seen!
After that we hit the streets again to explore the unique shops. We came across an art gallery called Plant the Future where all the art incorporates plants in some form.
Lastly we headed Wynwood Yard, a sort of pop-up hub with bars, food trucks and some shops. We were hungry at this point so had some of the most delicious tacos ever and some Asian street food as well as some craft beer.
ABOUT WYNWOOD MIAMI
Wynwood is an eclectic district in the urban core of Miami, Florida. It is home to art galleries, retail stores, antique shops, eclectic bars, artisanal eateries and one of the largest open-air street-art installations in the world.
Throughout the mid-to-late 1900s, Wynwood was an enclave for Caribbean immigrants and home to Miami’s Garment District. Following a decade of economic exodus and depression, in the early 2000s, forward thinking developers and property owners rehabilitated neglected warehouses, shuttered factories, and other unused buildings, transforming them into the innovative businesses that are visible today.
However, it is street art that helped spark Wynwood’s renaissance. Since the introduction of Second Saturday Art Walk and the arrival of Art Basel (2002), the influence and relevance of the arts community in Wynwood has become undeniable. Artists from around the world have sought inspiration in the area’s windowless facades and used them as canvases to showcase their work, leading to the vivid murals that adorn the district.
Today, Wynwood is recognized globally as a premier destination for art, fashion, innovation and creative enterprise. It is one of the largest and most prominent creative communities in the United States, and where a new generation of creative and entrepreneurs want to live, work, eat, play and learn.

Miami, Flórida: Wynwood Walls
Open to the public, free of charge the Wynwood Walls was established in 2009 by the legendary placemaker and visionary Tony Goldman as an outdoor museum of international street art. Since the first year's program - featuring Kenny Scharf, Futura, Os Gemeos, Swoon, Shepard Fairey, and other renowned innovators in street art, Wynwood Walls has become a phenomenon, spurring the creation of murals throughout the Wynwood district. It is now one of the best venues in the world to see the work of leading street artists. In 2010, the adjacent Wynwood Doors, with 176 feet of roll-up storefront gates was added and most recently the Wynwood Walls Garden, an open green space featuring five murals was included in the space. Each year, a selection of international artists - that range from old school graffiti artists to newer innovators- have created artwork for the Wynwood Walls. In 2012, Wynwood Walls celebrated Art Basel with a series of events dedicated to the vision of Tony Goldman who passed that September. Since that time, the project has been curated by Tony's daughter, Goldman Properties CEO Jessica Goldman Srebnick. Miami's now world renowned open air museum of the streets continues to attract visitors from around the world and currently encompasses more than 40 dazzling, cutting-edge murals created by respected street artists from Asia, Europe, Latin America and the United States.

Wynwood Walls Miami (2019) Amazing place!
About Wynwood Walls
The Wynwood Walls was conceived by the renowned community revitalizer and placemaker, the late Tony Goldman in 2009. He was looking for something big to transform the warehouse district of Wynwood, and he arrived at a simple idea: “Wynwood’s large stock of warehouse buildings, all with no windows, would be my giant canvases to bring to them the greatest street art ever seen in one place.” Starting with the 25th–26th Street complex of six separate buildings, his goal was to create a center where people could gravitate to and explore, and to develop the area’s pedestrian potential.
The Wynwood Walls became a major art statement with Tony’s commitment to graffiti and street art, a genre that he believed was under appreciated and not respected historically. He wanted to give the movement more attention and more respect: “By presenting it in a way that has not been done before, I was able to expose the public to something they had only seen peripherally.” In 2010, building on the momentum of the year before, Goldman Properties added 10 more artists to their roster of Walls. They opened the Wynwood Doors, Tony Goldman’s nod to traditional portrait galleries and expanded the mural program outside the Walls.
The Wynwood Walls has brought the world’s greatest artists working in the graffiti and street art genre to Miami. Jeffrey Deitch co-curated the first successful year of the project in 2009, collaborating with Tony before his appointment as museum director of MOCA Los Angeles. “We have strived for a diverse representation of both American and international artists that encompasses everything from the old school graffiti artists to the newest work being created around the world. The project has truly evolved into what my friend Jeffrey Deitch calls a Museum of the Streets,” Tony had summarized.
From around the United States, Brazil, Belgium, Mexico, Portugal, Ukraine, Portugal, Greece, Spain, Germany, France, England, Japan and Singapore, the celebrated artists who have contributed to the Wynwood Walls include: Os Gemeos, Invader, Kenny Scharf, FUTURA 2000, Dearraindrop, FAILE, BÄST, Shepard Fairey, Aiko, Sego, Saner, Liqen, Nunca, Ben Jones, HOW & NOSM, Ryan McGinness, Jim Drain, Ara Peterson, Retna, Stelios Faitakis, Clare Rojas, The Date Farmers, avaf, ROA, Ron English, Jeff Soto, Logan Hicks, b., PHASE 2, Joe Grillo, COCO 144, Gaia, Vhils, Interesni Kazki, Neuzz, Swoon, Ben Wolf, David Ellis, Barry McGee, Brandon Opalka, Friends With You, DALeast, Faith 47, Santiago Rubino, Daze, Krink, Momo, Miss Van, Lady Pink, Fafi, Sheryo, Kashink, Maya Hayuk and Lakwena.
Since its inception, the Wynwood Walls program has seen over 50 artists representing 16 countries and have covered over 80,000 square feet of walls. They have become must see international destination, with media coverage that has included the New York Times, BBC News, Vanity Fair and Forbes, who mentioned them along with Wynwood on their list of America’s hippest neighborhoods. The Walls were also a focus of the docu-series Here Comes the Neighborhood, which chronicled the creation and evolution of the Wynwood neighborhood.
With each year the Wynwood Walls endeavors to expand its breadth, introduce well known and emerging artists and bring world class art to the community.

Wynwood is roughly divided by North 20th Street to the south, I-195 to the north, I-95 to the west and the Florida East Coast Railway to the east.
Wynwood was long referred to as Little San Juan, and commonly known as El Barrio as many Puerto Ricans began immigrating to this Miami neighborhood from the island and northeastern cities in the 1950s.[3] Puerto Rican-owned restaurants, shops, markets and other businesses line the streets of Wynwood. Recently,[when?] the neighborhood has been gentrified with large investments and developments. The Midtown Miami development construction began in 2005 between North 29th and 36th Street and Miami Avenue and the Florida East Coast Railway (FEC) on what was historically an FEC rail yard. This brought renewed attention to the area, and previously abandoned warehouses have begun to be occupied by artists, restaurants, cafés, and lounges. Tony Goldman a developer also assisted in the growth of Wynwood by creating a mecca out of the already present graffiti. Some 30 artists traveled from around the world to create what is now the Wynwood Walls, this led to an incredible increase in other street art in the surrounding area. The large arts presence brought upon Miami what is conceived as a new Hipster neighborhood. Art and fashion are major elements of Wynwood, as Wynwood has a large fashion and textiles industry, primarily along NW 5th Avenue, in the Wynwood Fashion District.

Right to Wynwood: a documentary that explores the causes and effects of gentrification in Wynwood
Right to Wynwood is an investigative documentary that explores the causes and effects of gentrification in Wynwood. Through interviews with developers, gallerists, artists, community leaders, and members of the local Puerto Rican population, we seek to tell the story of how Wynwood went from Miami's oldest Puerto Rican community to its largest art district, and what that means for the future of the neighborhood.

Miami is the most southerly major city in the continental United States and also sixth most densely populated. Its wider metropolitan area is home to about 6.1 million people.
Miami is the US’s warmest location in winter and has the average temperature between 20 °C (68 °F) in winter months and up to 31 °C (88 °F) in the summer.
So it comes as no surprise that city welcomes over 14 million tourists per year and over 10% of the workforce works in the tourism industry. It’s also known as the cruise capital of the world, as Miami has the largest cruise ship port in the world.
With all the sun and tourists, it’s no wonder that sun tan lotion was invented in Miami. A pharmacist called Benjamin Green invented the mixture in 1944.
In the heart of Miami is an area straight from a Cuban storybook - Little Havana. Its heart is the 8th Street or Calle Ocho and is a time warp into another reality. Here you can find hand-rolled cigars, domino parks, fruiterias, meat markets and windows and coffee shops with cheap cafecitos.
Another prominent neighbourhood is Wynwood, best known for its graffiti walls in the Wynwood Art District. Wynwood Walls are an outdoor exhibition of rotating street art.
Miami has a numerous attractions devoted to nature and is surrounded by two national parks - Biscayne National Park to the south and the Everglades to the west.
Key West is an island and a city in the Florida Keys archipelago and is the southernmost part of the continental United States. It’s about 160 km or 100 miles away from Havana.
Miami was once a mangrove swamp so some of the beaches need to be replenished with sand regularly. Miami Beach for example is man-made and was once a desolate coconut grove plantation.
Miami is the only US city that was founded by a woman. A local businesswoman Julia Tuttle encouraged one railroad developer to expand into the area which led the way to the development of modern Miami.
If you are in town for a party, the art deco nightclub district in South Beach is regarded as one of the best in the world.
So it doesn’t really matter if you’re in town for a quick weekend escape to the beach, starting your cruise from the world’s largest passenger port and cruise capital of the world, admiring city’s cultural diversity and modern street art mixed with Art Deco architecture, go crocodile hunting in two surrounding national parks or simply enjoying Miami’s relaxed vibe and lavish nightlife - you absolutely need to try it for yourself!
