3 Day Yangtze River Cruise In 6 Minutes-Chongqing to Yichang
Come along on a three day Yangtze River cruise from Chongqing to Yichang, China. The Yangtze River, or Chang Jiang, is the longest river in Asia, and the third longest in the world after the Nile in Africa and the Amazon in South America. It flows for 3,988 miles (6,418 kilometers) from the glaciers on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau in Qinghai eastward before emptying into the East China Sea at Shanghai.
In recent years, the river has suffered from industrial pollution, agricultural run-off, siltation, and loss of wetland and lakes, which exacerbates seasonal flooding. Some sections of the river are now protected as nature reserves.

We are on the Victoria Anna which is the Yangtze's largest and most luxurious ship at the time it was built in 2006.
This film begins at Maoping. This town is located on the right (southern) bank of the Yangtze, just upstream of the Three Gorges Dam, and offers a good view of (the upstream side of) the dam, as well as of an accessory dam, which blocks off a valley on the southern side of the river from being flooded by the reservoir.

Yangtze River Turns Blood Red in Chongqing, China
Residents in China's southwestern mega city of Chongqing have been puzzled by this strange sight this week.
These images of the Yangtze River, the longest in China, have been surfacing since Wednesday. This stretch of the river around Chongqing looks like it's been dyed blood red.
Locals suspect that sever pollution is the cause, but Chongqing's Environmental Protect Bureau has another explanation—sand. Official reports are saying that flooding upstream washed excess sand downstream, turning the river bright red.
The Bureau also made a point of saying they did not find any evidence of illegal sewage dumping, but netizens have been questioning the official announcement.
Investigations are ongoing.

Yangtze River Cruise, from Wuhan to Gezhouba Dam - China Travel Channel
On the Princess Elaine of China Regal Cruises we head upriver the Yangtze River towards Gezhouba Dam. Particularly impressive is how much of the work is done by hand, such as loading and unloading the ships. Heavy machinery is only seldom seen.
It quickly becomes clear what great amounts of sand and clay are transported from the Yangtze into valley areas. And this occurs in a region that is almost perfectly flat. There is only a 192 m difference in altitude along the 2400 km stretch between Shanghai and Chongqing.
However, travel by ship is often a better alternative to road travel, even for trucks. The trip from Wuhan to the Three Gorges Dam costs around 00 Euros, including meals and sleeping accommodations.

Yangtze River Cruise, Wu Gorge - China Travel Channel
The Wu Gorge - 巫峽 - is the second of the Three Gorges on our Yangtze River Cruise between Badong and Wushan.
Returning from our Shennong Stream excursion to the Yangtze, we were again in awe of the natural beauty, yet also witnessed the difficulties of the local population in barely managing to survive. In the 3 Gorges Dam area, there are traditionally only three ways to make a living: either agriculture, fishing or coal mining.
Coal shafts are often located on high mountain cliffs and you can see the slag-heaps everywhere on the slopes. It is certainly very difficult to mine coal by hand under these conditions. Farming is not much better here either. Often fields are located up to 1000 m high on the slopes. In the dry season, water must be brought up from the river by foot.
Fishing also suffers from the changes brought about by the dam construction. As a result, the government greatly tries to create replacement jobs for locals in large surrounding cities such as Chongqing. Tourism, above all Chinese tourism, plays a vital role here.
The steep cliffs are continually interspersed with huge caves such as the Wind Bags Cave, where people believe the wind originates. Old coffins within this cave were destroyed during the Cultural Revolution. Or we see the Seven Caves, containing the inscriptions of 700 soldiers which will soon sink forever into the water.
