Vladimir Kastorsky (1870, Yaroslavl region -1948, Leningrad)- the Russian operatic and chamber singer (bass). As a child he sang in a church choir. Then he studied with his cousin A. Kastorsky and took some lessons from an Italian singer A. Cotonou. In 1892 he moved to St. Petersburg where he learned his vocal art at the Free choir class, the charity project of Melnikov. In 1893 he entered the St. Petersburg Conservatory, the course of C. Gabel, who a year later expelled the student for voiceless and incompetence. Later C. Gabel admitted his error. In 1894 he made his debut in opera in Pskov. Vladimir surved for the operatic stage about 45 years, his repertoire included 35 roles. In 1898—1918 and 1923—1930 he was a soloist of Mariinsky Theatre, and in 1918—1923 of Bolshoi Theatre, performing Ruslan and Susanin (Ruslan and Ludmila and Life for the Tsar by M.Glinka), Pimen (Boris Godunov by Mussorgsky), Gremin and Kotchubey (Eugene Onegin and Mazepa by Tchaikovsky),Miller (Rusalka by Dargomyzhsky), Count Almaviva and Leporello (The Marriage of Figaro and Don Giovanni by Mozart), Vladimir Galitsky (Prince Igor by Borodin),Nilakanta (Lakme by Delibes). Vladimir Kastorsky was extremely successful in R.Wagner's operas: Wotan (The Ring of the Nibelung) and Wolfram (Tannhauser), among others. In 1907 he organized a vocal quartet to promote Russian folk songs and toured with it in Russia and Europe. In 1907-1908 he participated in Sergei Diaghilev's Russian Seasons. The singer was the first performer of parties in Paris: Ruslan (Ruslan and Ludmila by Glinka, 1907), Pimen (Boris Godunov by Mussorgsky, 1908), Prince Yuri Tokmakov (The Maid of Pskov and Rimsky-Korsakov, 1909). He also was heard at La Scala (1908), as well as in in Prague, Berlin, Rome, Munich, London, Harbin, Japan, Moscow (Theater Aquarium, Zimin's private Opera), Kiev, Odessa,Tiflis, and many other cities. He taught at Mariinsky Theatre, Leningrad's Art Studio and at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory. Until the end of life he performed as a chamber singer, performing Glinka, Dargomyzhsky, Mozart, Schubert, Borodin, Mussorgsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Tchaikovsky, Beethoven and Schumann.

Born in Moscow, graduated from Moscow Conservatory in 1995 as pianist and music historian. During that time also was studying vocal in the Moscow Institute of Theatre Arts on Taganka . Then she became a teacher of jazz vocal there. Since 2002 Ekaterina Chernousova has been a solo performer of the Russian President Orchestra, which works with such renowned artists as Iosif Kobzon, Luciano Pavarotti, Igor Butman, and others. Before that she combined work as a reporter for Nedelya (Izvestiyas weekly supplement) and concertmaster of The Kremlin Ballet Theater. Also she is a soloist of Presidential Orchestra of Russian Federation (since 2002.) Before that, Ekaterina has worked as a pianist in Kremlin ballet theatre. Since 1997, she studied jazz with well-known Russian pianist Daniel Kramer and performed in Moscow Conservatory, Tchaikovsky Concert Hall, at several jazz festivals in Moscow and other cities of Russia. Ekaterina performs in Moscow and other Russian cities with the ensemble named Komnati (Rooms) which she created in 2001 and has been directing since then.
In December of 2004 Rooms got the first prize in vocal nomination (Ekaterina Chernousova) at the International Festival in Kazan City (Tatarstan). In 2005 the ensemble performed in Smolensk, Yaroslavl, Voronezh, Tula, and other cities of Russia and Finland. This year she also took part in the recording of CD with ethno- jazz musicians Bob Amaker (USA) and M.Madson (Germany).
Then she participated in ethno-jazz music jazz festivals in Russia and Finland as a pianist and vocalist. Now she continues performing in jazz clubs in Russia and participates in concerts with many famous Russian musicians, like Slava Gorsky, Oleg Kireyev, Anatoly Gerasimov and others. In December 2005, Ekaterina participated in Jazz voices festival in Moscow and Tver. In December of 2006 she was awarded the third prize (nomination vocals) at the International Golden Hanukiya Festival for the song Im Telech.
In February, 2006, she visited the U.S. through the Open World Leadership Program. The group of seven young Russian jazz musicians, including Chernousova, performed at Seattle's best jazz club, Dimitrious Jazz Alley, and then at the biggest jazz festival in U.S. Northwest - Lionel Hampton International Jazz Festival (Moscow, Idaho). Russian musicians worked with students and teachers of Music College at University of Idaho the Lionel Hampton Music School, gave 4 master classes during festival and performed closing 2d day of festival in front of six thousand people at the Kibbie Dome/

At present, Ekaterina Chernousova recorded 2 program - called Feeling Russia and Russian Round Dances in Jazz Rhythm
. This programs were performed by Rooms. The soundtracks blend Russian tunes and modern funk and down-bit rhythms. One of the compositions was successfully performed at Etnosphera - Russian Music Festival held by the composer S. Filatov.
At the same time vocal jazz concerts were held in Moscow (jazz clubs, Glinka Museum of Musical Culture) and other Russian cities Yaroslavl, Saratov( with Alexander Vinitsky), Obninsk. In June 2006, Ekaterina had a successful vocal concert (together with Anton Bukanov, piano) in Bombay (India). In December 2006, Ekaterina took part as a pianist at the International Childrens Church Music Festival in Helsinki (Finland) hosted by Hartvall-Аrena, the largest concert hall of Finland. 14,000 attended the Festival.
Last November, Rooms performed at the Jazz Eurasia 2007 Festival in Orenburg with its Oriental program Im Telech. And in December 2007, Ekaterina Chernousova participated as a vocalist in the New Year Concert of Yaroslavl Jazz Band.

The Divertissement Ensemble
The Divertissement Ensemble, a prize-winning orchestral group from Orenburg, Russia, will appear at the Palladium Theater in St. Petersburg at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Founded by the Orenburg State Philharmonic Society in 1994, the ensemble is one of the most popular classical music groups in the Volga and Urals regions of Russia. The ensemble has given rich repertory performances in the most prestigious concert halls of Russia, including the M. Glinka Philharmonic Chamber Hall in St. Petersburg, the Moscow State Conservatory, the Moscow State Philharmonic Society and in the grand estates around St. Petersburg Tsarskoye Selo and Pavlovsk. José Luis Nieto, with an intensive activity of concerts at an international level, is considered one of the most important Spanish pianist of the new generation. After studying at the Royal Superior Conservatory of Music in Madrid, he went to the Tchaikovsky Conservatory of Moscow, from 1997 to 2006. STORYLINE
University students faced off with police in violent clashes in Peru's capital on Thursday.
The demonstration turned violent when students tried to move through the centre of Lima toward National Congress to protest education legislation that they say will take away the autonomy of universities.
Police blocked their path.
Protesters hurled wooden sticks and other objects at police who responded by firing tear gas and using water cannon.
Mounted police were also dispatched to break up the protests.
At times, scuffles broke out between demonstrators and police.
At least one policeman was slightly hurt.
At least one protester was seen injured and being dragged by police through the street.

Daniil Trifonov (Russian: Даниил Трифонов, born March 5, 1991 in Nizhny Novgorod) is a Russian concert pianist. Trifonov is a top prize winner of several major international piano competitions, including the Rubinstein competition in Tel Aviv, the International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw and the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. At the age of 21, he is quickly emerging as one of the most outstanding pianists of his generation, having the potential to build a major international performing career. He recently completed studies at the Gnessin Special School of Music in the class of Tatiana Zelikman, and is currently a student of Sergei Babayan at the Cleveland Institute of Music. Trifonov has performed around the world, including Austria, Canada, China, Germany, Italy, Israel, Japan, Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the USA.
