Yaroslavl, Russia. Best Russian historical city to visit
Situated at the confluence of the Volga and Kotorosl Rivers around 300 km north-east of Moscow, the historic city of Yaroslavl developed into a major commercial centre from the 11th century.
There are two major passenger railway stations in Yaroslavl. They can be easily mixed up. The one you are probably looking for is called ‘Yaroslavl-Glavny’. The city is connected to Moscow by a fast electric train service with comfortable seats. Just 3 hours from the capital of Russia and you are in the very centre of Yaroslavl.
Yaroslavl is one of the Golden Ring cities, a group of historic cities northeast of Moscow that have played an important role in Russian history. The historic part of the city is a World Heritage Site.
One of the central squares of Yaroslavl is called Sovetskaya. Ironically, the most beautiful and notable orthodox church in the town is located just here. This is the Church of Elijah the Prophet, which is a very prominent example of the way in which the city developed in the 17th century.
The church of the Epiphany is an Orthodox church in Yaroslavl. Built in 17th century as well, it is known for beautiful fresco paintings and tiled decoration of facades.
Another famous cathedral in Yaroslavl, Uspensky, was built in the 13th century and destroyed in the Soviet era, the city park was created on its place. The cathedral was rebuilt in 2010, its construction was completed to the 1000th anniversary of Yaroslavl.
While walking around the city centre you will definitely find this Kremlin-alike construction. The truth is it is not the Yaroslavl Kremlin, it is the Cathedral of the Spassky (St Savior) Monastery. The Cathedral is the oldest buildings in the city. Typical for a Russian monastery of the Middle Ages, the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery in Yaroslavl was not built to be no more than a place of worship, but also to be a citadel and kremlin in case, in times of war.
Just near this monastery you can find a little structure, the Lady of Kazan Chapel. If you have a one thousand rubles banknote, you can find it there as well along with the monument to Yaroslav the Wise, the founder of the city.
1000 Anniversary of Yaroslavl was celebrated in Russia in 2003. Huge part of the historic centre was renovated with some new sightseeings constructed. Strelka park is one of them, it’s a huge promenade area at the bank of the Volga river with beautiful views. The Volga embankment is a good example of urban planning in the classicist style; built in the 1840s, this promenade walk has remained a favourite place for residents to take a stroll and relax ever since.

Раньше на этом месте находилось поселение язычников, «рекомое Медвежий угол». Его жители, потомки угро-финских племен, смешавшимся с пришлым славянским насел.

Церковь Богоявления (Ярославль)
Церковь Богоявления — православный храм в Ярославле. Построен в 1684-1693 году на средства купца гостиной сотни Алексея Зубчанинова. Известна фресковой росписью и изразцовым убранством фасадов. Расположена на названной по ней площади. Богоявленская церковь − замечательный образец синтеза двух архитектурных направлений – московского и ярославского. Основной объем храма сделан на московский манер: без подклета, бесстолпный, перекрытый сомкнутым сводом, и его интерьер необычайно просторен, светел и высок. Храм хорошо освещается благодаря большим и высоким окнам. Традиции ярославского зодчества выразились в окружении основного четверика галереями с трех сторон; в северо-западном углу галереи поставлена Богоявленская церковь в Ярославлешатровая колокольня.
Архитектура.
Бесстолпный пятиглавый храм, без подклета, перекрыт сводом. Барабаны с главами стоят на крупных декоративных кокошниках. С юга к храму примыкает придел вологодского святого Дмитрия Прилуцкого, с севера — придел в воспоминание Страшного суда Христова. Внутреннее пространство основного куба освещено девятью высокими окнами.
Стенные росписи
Церковь была расписана в 1693 году артелью Дмитрия Григорьева и Фёдора Игнатьева.

The Moscow-Yaroslavl-Arkhangelsk Railroad is one of the railways built during the era of the Russian Empire and was one of the first railways in Russia. The main lines were built on private capital in the years 1868 - 1900 on the lands of the Moscow , Vladimir , Yaroslavl , Tver , Kostroma , Vologda , Arkhangelsk provinces.
The Yaroslavl Railway, owned by Savva Mamontov, and a number of statuues of the man were sighted along the railway. The Alexandrov–Yaroslavl–Vologda line was opened in 1872.
In 1894, the construction of the railway connecting Vologda with Arkhangelsk started. The decision was taken to construct the line along the shortest route, which at the time ran through a sparsely populated area, and not along one of the existing trading routes, via Kargopol or Verkhovazhye. The construction was completed in 1897
In 1859 - 1900 the road belonged to the joint stock company of the Moscow-Yaroslavl Railway (the charter was approved in 1859 ) and was bought out by the Russian Treasury in 1900....
Nowadays the Northern Railway as it is called, is a subsidiary of the Russian Railways. Its total length is 5956 km. The headquarters are on the Volga Embankment in Yaroslavl. Its branches are based in Yaroslavl, Vologda, Arkhangelsk, Solvychegodsk, and Sosnogorsk.....
