Travel Russia - Exploring the Historic City of Yaroslavl
Take a tour of Historic Yaroslavl in Yaroslavl, Russia -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
Follow the Volga and Kotorosl Rivers to where they meet, and you will find the historic city of Yaroslavl.
This Russian city has been an economic power since the 11th century, and served as the country's de facto capital in the 17th century.
The medieval churches of Yaroslavl are typically Russian Orthodox in style and persuasion.
In 1763, Catherine the Great ordered a radical makeover of the town that would serve as a model for urban planning across the country.
Yaroslavl today is the result of this urban program, and is thus a beautiful example of Western cultural exchange and influence.
The city's neoclassical style, impressive monuments and historical importance all contribute to its UNESCO World Heritage designation.
Moody Russian Settlement. Old manufacture, Norskoye, Yaroslavl.
Norskoye is a medieval settlement near Yaroslavl with a well known textile manufacture founded in XIX century. By 1890 it had 2140 employees and suppliers from France, Belgium, US and Egypt.
Production stopped in 2011.
Since 2019 the factory is an architectural landmark protected by the Government.

'People starting to think for themselves in Russia' - Medvedev's address at Yaroslavl Forum
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has spoken at the Global Policy Forum in Yaroslavl. In a speech concentrating on democracy he said those who say Russia isn't democratic have very bad memories. He told the U.S. to overcome what he described as jealousy towards Moscow's proposed new European Security deal. Medvedev also said that the new system would actually unite current institutions to make everyone more secure.

Qolsharif Mosque, Kazan Kremlin - Russia Travel Guide
Take a tour of Qolsharif Mosque in Russia -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
The Qolsharif Mosque in Russia, though undoubtedly modern, has deep historical ties to the past.
The current building, found in Kazan Kremlin, was started in 1996 and inaugurated in 2005.
However, the mosque was rebuilt after an ancient mosque of the same name from the 1500s.
This mosque was supposedly the biggest in Russia at the time of its construction.
Its appearance is uncertain because it was destroyed in 1552 by Ivan the Terrible.
The new Qolsharif Mosque attempts to mirror the old, and, in doing so, has created a beautiful building.

It appeared on the site of the wooden church of the Annunciation, the construction of which ecclesiastical tradition attributes to Saint Prince Constantine (Yaroslav) Svyatoslavich - youngest son Chernigov Prince Svyatoslav Yaroslavich, grandson of the great Kiev prince Yaroslav the Wise (according to some sources [1], could be the grandson of Yaroslav Svyatoslavich Ryazan. The temple was Muromskaya icon of Our Lady of the Greek letter brought by the Prince of Byzantium. it is known that in this temple prayed the holy Bishop Basil.
In 1547 on the basis of local veneration it was committed church-wide celebration of Blessed Prince Constantine and his children Michael and Theodore.
The monastery was founded in 1553 by Ivan the Terrible, who visited Moore in 1552 during a campaign against Kazan.
Since 1555 in the Annunciation Cathedral opened the relics of Prince Constantine.
In 1616 the monastery was destroyed and plundered by the Poles. During the XVII century the monastery gradually rise from the ruins.
Murom merchant Tarasy B. Tsvetnov rebuilt in 1664 Cathedral of the Annunciation and set the clock in the bell tower. In 1791 the monastery Murom seminary was opened. In 1792, the monastery survived the fire, but the stone buildings and the main shrine survived. In connection with a fire Muromskoye seminary was transferred to the house of the caretaker, and closed in 1800.
During the War of 1812 in the monastery and kept the Iberian Icon of the Vladimir Mother of God.
In 1866 the monastery was digested with the second class. In 1867-1882 years he ruled Murom bishops, vicars Vladimir diocese.
KAZAN, RUSSIA | Highlights in One Day!
On our first day in Kazan, Russia, Katie and I visited all the Highlights in one day!
This video hopefully will help people see what to do in Kazan or what one day in Kazan looks like. You can visit the Kazan Kremlin, Kazan Cathedral, try Tatarstan food, do a city tour, or visit the Kul Sharif Mosque. Kazan Russia Highlights are easily seen within one day, but we enjoyed having two to relax and take a slow approach to our time. Our recommendation would be 2 full days to easily see everything the city has to offer! Then you can move on to other wonderful nearby cities!

Кazan and Bolgar (UNESCO World Heritage Site)
Kazan is the capital and largest city of the Republic of Tatarstan. It is known for the old Kremlin: the Tower of Soyembika, the blue and gold domed Anunciation and the Sharif Mosque.
Bolgar or Bolghar is situated on the bank of the Volga River. The UNESCO World Heritage Committee inscribed Bolgar Historical and Archaelogical Complex (ancient Bolghar hill fort) to the World Heritage List in 2014.
This is a video taken with a drone DJI zoom and go pro.

Icon of the Mother of God of Kazan-Bekhit Fahim
Our Lady of Kazan, also called Theotokos of Kazan (Russian: Казанская Богоматерь tr. Kazanskaya Bogomater'), was a holy icon of the highest stature within the Russian Orthodox Church, representing the Virgin Mary as the protector and patroness of the city of Kazan. It was considered a palladium of Russia for centuries, until its theft and likely destruction in 1904. Two major Kazan cathedrals, in Moscow and St. Petersburg, are consecrated to Our Lady of Kazan, as are numerous churches throughout the land. Her feast days are July 21 and November 4 (which is also the Day of National Unity).
Ancient and venerated copies have been displayed at the Kazan Cathedral of Moscow, at Yaroslavl, and at St. Petersburg. Copies of the image are also venerated in the Catholic Church.
NSLI-Y Arabic Summer 2015, Episode Two: Mosque, Muttrah, and Museums
Episode Two of my vlogs from my summer in Oman with NSLI-Y
*Gargee'an ( ' standing for a sound non-existent in English) is a festival that occurs halfway through Ramadan. Children dress up in traditional clothing and get candy/treats. In Oman, it was called Karam Kashew, but Gargee'an seemed to be the actual name for it (various spellings). The clips are from a children's party we went to and an event being held at a mall.
