2011 Showdown on the Yellow Dog Plains Part 2: Putting Mich. Lawmakers, Kennecott, Media on notice
Opponents of sulfide acid mining in Michigan's Upper Peninsula held strategy meetings in mid-February to galvanize their single ideal:
There is no place for destructive sulfide mining on the Yellow Dog Plains or anywhere in the Great Lakes.
Opponents of Kennecott Minerals and their subsidiaries have teamed with a legend in the battle against those committing environmental crimes.
Environmental warrior Lois Gibbs was dubbed the Mother of the Superfund after she successfully battled chemical companies in the infamous Love Canal saga.
Save the Wild U.P. and other sulfide mining opponents met with Boston attorney Peter B. Sessa, who represents the nonprofit Gibbs founded and is executive director: The Center for Health, Environment and Justice (CHEJ) in Falls Church, Virginia.

Groups opposed to the mine will unseat and defeat all elected officials who support the mine.
No Democrat or Republican will be spared as groups seek to expose criminal activities involving Kennecott, its lobbyists and Michigan's greedy elected officials.
Gibbs believes the pristine beauty of northern Michigan is worth saving and said the numerous sulfide mines planned will leave huge areas of the U.P. a moonscape.
The Anishinaabe nation is sickened that Kennecott Eagle Minerals is planning to dynamite through sacred Eagle Rock in the spring of 2011 -- the desecration of a sacred religious, spiritual and ceremonial site for the Ojibwa.
Ojibwa singer Bobby Bullett says placing the entrance of the sulfide mine in Eagle Rock shows a sickness of mind in humans and international corporations have reached.
In fact, all of mines opened by Kennecott Minerals have turned into environmental disasters -- and the company has been accused of murder and human rights violations.
Many Ojibwa believe that the desecration of Eagle Rock will lead to death and disaster for all those who enter the mine - that opponents hope to halt in its tracks through ongoing litigation and new tactics that will be unveiled in 2011.

Agate Falls Ontonagon County, Michigan
Having visited the Upper Peninsula of Michigan quite a bit over the summer, I always had to drive by Agate Falls Park. I finally stopped. There is a platform to look out over the top of the falls, but to really see the rest of the falls, you need to climb down past the railings to the rivers edge.
Urgent: Join tribes, others at Sacred Eagle Rock in Michigan to prevent Kennecott Acid Mine
American Indians and non-natives are encouraged to visit the northern Michigan campsite that is blocking a sulfide mine - as in sulfuric acid - from being built under Sacred Eagle Rock.
Levi Tadgerson, an Anishinaabe man who loves and respects the environment, narrates this video that invites everyone to join the encampment at the base of Eagle Rock - the sooner the better because a confrontation between mine owners, the police and those protecting Sacred Eagle Rock could happen at any moment.
Tadgerson is a 22-year-old Northern Michigan University senior and member of Bay Mills Indian Community.
In the video, you will see the many amazing things happening to protect Sacred Eagle Rock including an appearance by popular American Indian singer/songwriter Elder Bobby Bullet St. Germaine of Iron River, MI - an elder of the Lac Du Flambeau tribe.
He sings and leads a thank you drum under the shadow of Sacred Eagle Rock.
This video was shot on 4/29/2010.
Background
Eagle Rock has been a sacred place to hold ceremonies since the Ojibwa tribe was created and was seeded to the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community (KBIC) under treaties with the American government.
The multi-tribe encampment, that could be raided by mine guards and police at any moment, is blocking the Eagle Mine Project by international mining giant Kennecott Minerals and its parent company Rio Tinto.
KBIC member Glen Bressette Jr., 38, of Harvey, Michigan brought a rare legally-permitted Eagle has been received to award feathers to those who honor their tribes by protecting sacred Eagle Rock and other honorable actions.
Dozens of people from numerous tribes have spent days at the camp - and many others have brought supplies to the remote site on dirt roads about an hour from any city.
The state of Michigan has claimed ownership to the land - but the lease with Kennecott only takes effect when the mine has secured all permits.
Opponents say the mine must still get a federal EPA groundwater permit - but under a technicality the mine owners say they do not need the permit and recently put up No Trespassing signs.
The American Indians rushed to the sight after Kennecott ordered the arrest of longtime mine opponent Cynthia Pryor of Big Bay, MI on April 20, 2010.
Pryor was out for her usual walk on the Yellow Dog Plains when she spotted a bulldozer - and refused to leave saying the mine still had an EPA permit pending.
Pryor is a member of the Yellow Dog Watershed Preserve.
Among the Ojibwa tribes from Michigan and Wisconsin on sight are KBIC, Lac Du Flambeau, and Bay Mills Indian Community.
As of April 30th, the mine guards has not confronted the campers - but the day before ordered no still or video cameras are allowed. That has campers worried about why what they do not want videotaped or documented - thus nerves are high.
When a reporter arrived a short time later - the campers allowed him on the sight and this story was videotaped.

McKeever Cabin in the Hiawatha National Forest
We stayed here 10/16-10/18, 2015. Lucky us, we got to experience the first lake effect snow of the season! Colors were just a bit past peak, so there weren't many reds to be seen, but a lot of vibrant yellow. The cabin is unbelievably cozy, much better than I would expect from a Nat'l Forest cabin. We'll be back :)

and experience New York State's best fishing in the 1000 Islands and Adirondacks Region.
The inland waters of the 1000 Islands Region provide an amazingly wide variety of fishing in a relatively small area. The northern part of Franklin County is dominated by the Indian River chain of lakes consisting of 18 pristine backcountry lakes ranging from shallow warm-water ponds to deep cold-water basins. The shallow waters have habitats that support plentiful populations of yellow perch, crappie and bullhead. The deeper waters offer great action for bass, northern pike and walleye. The southern part of the county is ideal for landing a trophy Chinook or Atlantic salmon from bays and tributaries of Lake Ontario.
Turtle theft by state and federal authorities
This story came by way of Steve Santhuff himself, the one violated by the United States government.
Steve Santhuff lives in the state of Georgia, Gwinnett County (outside of the city of Atlanta), United States of America (USA). Mr. Santhuff has been an avid collector of turtles since his childhood and had around 500 turtles in his collection. He is respected as an authority concerning turtles to the point where he assisted the state of Louisiana in creating legislation to protect turtles. Mr. Santhuff also helped the state of Georgia identify turtles within its boundaries previously unaware of to them.
For three years the Federal government and regional state governments have conspired to investigate Mr. Santhuff to see if he was in violation of any laws in regards to his huge collection of turtles (tortoise). Such as if he was engaged in the commercialization or intent to or motive to. After three years of wasting and abusing tax payer money they decided to arrest Mr. Santhuff and charged him with having those reptiles without a permit. That is correct, no laws broken but no permit.
It seems like the state of Georgia used this no permit excuse to arrest someone back in 1831. In 1831 or thereabouts, a Samuel Worscester was working in the Cherokee Nation, which overlapped into Northern Georgia, evangelizing. The governor of the time wanted to establish Georgian law over the Cherokee Nation and had Mr. Worscester arrested for working in the Cherokee Nation without a permit. Yep, that is correct, arrested for no permit just like in 2008 when Mr. Steve Santhuff was charged.
Steve Santhuffs case goes to trail, and the jury found Mr. Santhuff innocent of breaking any laws, thus exonerating him. See the below link describing the proceedings as written by the Michael Hendrickson, the jury foreman:
Now Mr. Santhuff was found innocent of any wrong doing. That judgment of innocent did not deter the U.S. government. They are still keeping the turtles and other property they stole / confiscated from Mr. Santhuff. Government official Russ Willard said, the state does not plan to return the turtles. Mr. Santhuff does not have the authority to possess these animals. You read right, a jury decision means nothing to the government of these here United States.
Remember the government stole 500 turtles from Mr. Santhuff. Of which 350 were not on any protection list in the USA. Those turtles which many have been, were acquired by Mr. Santhuff BEFORE any were added to the list or even BEFORE the legislation was written. These turtles are valued between $100.00 and $1,000.00 each. While in these stolen turtles were in government custody, around 200 have died. The government stole these turtles to protect them, and then caused 200 of them to die while in government captivity.
Mr. Santhuff is now suing the government via his attorney Robert DAgostino to get the stolen turtles returned along with other stolen items: personal papers, vacation photos, scientific notes, and logs.
Representative democracy: where? Not in the USA. The United States was once a nation of laws, where all respected and enforced the laws. Now it is a nation of force. Have the force and you have the law to uphold or ignore. After hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast, New Orleans, the United States government violated the Posse Comitatus Act, see below video:
Also violating the 2nd Amendment to the United States ignored Constitution. The Republic is lost. President Abraham Lincoln, 16 President, in his Gettysburg address ended with in part: government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth. Well President Lincoln, it did perish, so help me God!
What we have here is an old fashion oligarchy. We the people have become we the suckers.
Update as of July 16, 2010 from Mr. Santhuff:
Tony: I won my first lawsuit against these agents. The jury awarded $88,500 against the agents for their actions on 14 July 2005, FIVE YEARS AGO. Not presented before the jury was the information about the seizure on the 21st of July, not allowed was my arrest and incarceration, nor my 3 year wait for a prosecution, nor my acquittal, nor the death of 365 turtles. I think I understand that reason for that restriction, I suspect it has to do with additional suit to follow. Time for a new video.

As many fungi do, death cap mushrooms live off of trees, in what’s called a mycorrhizal relationship. They send filaments deep down to the trees’ roots, where they attach to the very thin root tips. The fungi absorb sugars from the trees and give them nutrients in exchange.
Where do California’s death cap mushrooms come from?
Biologist Anne Pringle, at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, has done research that shows that death caps likely snuck into California from Europe attached to the roots of imported plants, as early as 1938.
How deadly are death cap mushrooms?
Between 2010 and 2015, five people died in California and 57 became sick after eating the unassuming greenish mushrooms, according to the California Poison Control System. One mushroom cap is enough to kill a human being, and they’re also poisonous to dogs. Death caps are believed to be the number one cause of fatal mushroom poisonings worldwide.
What happens if you eat a death cap mushroom?
A toxin in the mushroom destroys your liver cells. Dr. Kent Olson, co-medical director of the San Francisco Division of the California Poison Control System, said that for the first six to 12 hours after they eat the mushroom, victims of the death cap feel fine. During that time, a toxin in the mushroom is quietly injuring their liver cells. Patients then develop severe abdominal pain, diarrhea and vomiting. “They can become very rapidly dehydrated from the fluid losses,” said Olson. Dehydration can cause kidney failure, which compounds the damage to the liver. For the most severe cases, the only way to save the patient is a liver transplant.
