10 Things to do in West Yellowstone Montana
There's so much to do in West Yellowstone, MT, a gateway town to Yellowstone National Park. Living just north of the Park, we have spent a lot of time in that area but we also love the west entrance of West Yellowstone Montana. It's got a very retro, historic ambiance to it with plenty of fun things to do before you even go into the first national park. And it's not just for RV campers. Here are 10 of our favorite things about this wonderful Montana town.

Fly Fishing in Glacier National Park
We brought a fly rod along on our family vacation to Glacier National Park and had several opportunities to do some fishing in multiple regions of the park. Not only did we get to experience some of the beautiful scenery of the Rocky Mountains but also caught several fish, including some native west-slope cutthroats! This was a trip I will never forget. RV Travel Life | Grand Tetons to Yellowstone
Our Trip from Grand Teton National Park (Colter Bay RV Park) to West Yellowstone (Grizzly RV Park) was pretty neat. We decided to not use our GPS as both the Garmin and Rand McNally we have said that we needed to go south and then all the way around the two parks to get to West Yellowstone. We read several articles about big rigs on US 191 North to West Yellowstone from Grand Tetons and they said that the roads were fine. They were correct. The only minor issues we faced were people stopping to take pictures but it only happened twice. This was on Memorial Day Weekend, the busiest for the two parks. The drive took us 2.5 hours total, and we even missed our turn and added about 20 minutes. If you are hesitant about this route, we are confident in saying you should go for it. We had a great time and got to see the park to help plan our visit!

This video highlights my fly fishing adventures in Bozeman, Montana this past September. This was one of the most epic fishing trips I have ever taken. It was a do it yourself deal. No guides and self filmed. If you enjoy fly fishing for trout, you need to experience the western states! Its simply incredible and my poor video skills do not do it justice. This trip takes us to the south west corner of Yellowstone National Park to visit Cave Falls, away from all of the crowds. Along the way back, we drop down to Sheep Falls, which isn't in the national park and allows us to fly the drone to photo another amazing waterfall that is off the beaten path.
This is a must stop for anyone adventuring/overlanding in the Yellowstone area.

Montana's Fabled Yellowstone with Cabela's Outdoor Adventures
This fly fishing lodge lies in Paradise Valley, overlooking the Yellowstone River, the longest undammed river on the planet. With 300 miles of fishable trout water, there is no shortage of fishing options here, regardless of the conditions. The Yellowstone is known for its prolific hatches and incredible fishing for browns, rainbows, and cutthroat trout. The river offers the best of both worlds with great float fishing and wade fishing opportunities. This area is centrally located around some of the state's best trout fishing with other nearby blue-ribbon trout streams like the Madison and Boulder. The lodge also offers private access to some challenging, yet rewarding, spring creeks. There's nothing more exciting to spotting and stalking large trout in gin clear water as you watch it take your dry fly! Besides the main lodge where guests gather for meals and to swap fish tales, there are also 16 private guest cabins. There are two different packages to choose from, both offering excellent opportunity for incredible fly fishing. The deluxe package includes accommodations in the newly constructed loft-style riverside cabins. These cabins feature two bedrooms, two baths, living room, kitchenette, flat screen tv, and private deck overlooking the river. The standard package includes accommodations in the original cabins that feature more of an open area with two queen beds, full bath, sitting area, and semi-private deck overlooking the river. All cabins have electric heat, central air, and incredible views of the Absaroka mountain range. Other area activities include hiking, mountain biking, gold, horseback riding, Chico hot springs, whitewater rafting, or a day trip to Yellowstone National Park.

This video takes you for a drive on US Highway 20, from the entrance to Yellowstone National Park at West Yellowstone, Montana, into Idaho, and down to the town of Ashton. There was some rain along the way but it clears up quickly!

I made this trip in July 2017. Video shot with a Brinno TLC-200 Pro time-lapse camera mounted on my roof with a homemade magnetic case. I travel with two Brinno cameras - one facing forward, the other in reverse. Sometimes the reverse camera captures better video (fewer raindrops and bugs hit the rear-view lens).
