????汉语 Docked just in front of Sakuragicho Station, directly below the Landmark Tower, the NIPPON MARU really brings a touch of class to the entire Minato Mirai area.
Like most ships, she has quite a history. Built in 1930 (that makes her over 80 years old!) as a training ship, she has been used to do just that: In her 54 years of service, almost 12,000 cadets learned the ins and outs of sailing on her. She also put in her miles, having sailed the equivalent of 45.5 trips around the globe. That is just short of 2 million kilometers!
After her retirement in 1984, Yokohama City made space for her in Minato Mirai. She is now open to the public, who are free to walk up and down her decks, read about her history in more detail, and see what life on a ship is really like.
The ship itself is gorgeous, with big white sails, wooden decks that shine with polish, and ropes and knots and other ship stuff that is very impressive. There are even volunteers on board to answer your questions, and explain how the various parts of the ship actually work. Below deck, we can walk through and view a Cadet’s Room, the Officer’s Day Room, the Officer’s Saloon (cheers!), the Bridge, and so on.
Through out the year, numerous events are held, the most impressive being a Full-sail Exhibition where the ship’s beautiful white sails are unfurled to the sky and blow in the wind. Other events include Brass Band Concerts given by local high schools or amateur bands, and even a flea market!
The Yokohama Port Museum located in front of Nippon Maru is themed on the history of the Yokohama port and its relationship to people's daily lives. The exhibits demonstrate the 150 years of history of the port since its opening as well as its functions and efforts.

Yokohama Japan Travel Guide
A travel guide for visiting the city of Yokohama, in Japan. Yokohama is Japan's largest city with 3.7M people. Just a short 30-minute train ride from Tokyo, Yokohama is an easy day trip. Highlights include: Minato Mirai, China Town, Yamashita Park, and the Sea Bass. SUSBCRIBE:
In this video I cover the major highlights of Yokohama that you can visit in a day-trip to Yokohama. After arriving at Yokohama station, I stop at the Tourist Information booth at the JR Yokohama Station to pick-up english maps. Then I head out the west exit to the Yokohama Station shopping district. On the West side of Yokohama station there are a great selection of stores including Yodobashi Camera, Japan's largest Electronics Store, Tokyu Hands Creative Life Store (my favorite store in Japan for cool gadgets), and Takashimaya department store.
I then head out to the Yokohama Station East exit to take a ride on the Sea Bass. The Sea Bass is a pedestrian ferry of sorts that goes between Yokohama Station, and Yamashita Park, with intermediate stops at Minato Mirai and the Red Brick Buildings. The Sea Bass has a direct route to Yamashita park that takes about 20 minutes, or an indirect route that makes those two intermediate stops which takes about 35 minutes.
Yamashita Park is a neat waterfront park with a nice wide pedestrian sidewalk along the harbor. Yamashita Park often hosts special events on weekends. The weekend that I visited Yamashita Park it was hosting an international food festival.
Chinatown is about a 5 minute walk from Yamashita Park... Check out my other video linked below for more info on Yokohama Chinatown.
Then I took the subway from Chinatown to the Minato Mirai district. The Minato Mirai district is Yokohama's newest district with some futuristic looking highrises including the Landmark Tower, Japan's tallest office building. The Landmark tower is also home to Japan's fastest elevators. Minato Mirai is best visited at night to see the colorful light displays on the Ferris wheel.
Yokohama is also home to a couple of note-worthy museums that I didn't visit in this video but at worth a mention. 1: Cup Noodle Museum (where you can make your own cup noodle). 2: Ramen Museum (more of a food-court with a whole bunch of ramen shops)

The famous port city which is a romantic dating spot and has a rich atmosphere of exoticism
Area Characteristics
Yokohama is popular with the younger generations as a dating spot. It has a renowned night view and is a hit for its stylish shopping malls, a Ferris wheel and a park along the sea. With its opening in 1859 as an international trading port along Yokohama Bay, it has come to boast the largest Chinatown in Japan and is a unique city with an air of exoticism.
Major Sites
In the Minato Mirai 21 area, there is Yokohama Landmark Tower for starters with its observation deck overlooking a lovely night view, and places such as Red Brick Park and Cosmo World. Along with the seaside Yamashita Park and Osanbashi Pier, there are also theme parks including Hakkeijima Sea Paradise and Zoorasia, and areas such as Yokohama Chinatown, Motomachi, and Sankei-en Garden which can be enjoyed by people of all ages.
Food
The delicacy here is siu mai dumplings. The butaman (pork buns) of Chinatown are also popular. Yokohama is also characterized by its many Western restaurants as the first Japanese city to first introduce Western culture with establishments ranging from venerable restaurants to the latest eateries to become the talk of the town. Raisin sandwiches, Ariake Harbor products and other sweets make great souvenirs symbolizing the city. Local Yokohama ramen and family-run ramen restaurants are also famous.
Transportation
From Tokyo Station, the JR Tokaido line to Yokohama is the speediest and most convenient, being able to reach the city within 30 minutes. For sightseeing within the city, the tour bus moving around the main tourist sites in the bayside area, the one-day pass to get around on the city bus, subway system and other public transportation systems are handy. However, since the routes into the Minato Mirai 21 area are especially crowded on public holidays, reserving a lot of time and/or walking around the area is recommended.
Accommodations
Hotel facilities in Yokohama are mainly concentrated within the tourist areas such as Minato Mirai 21, Sakuragicho, Bashamichi, Yamashita Park, Motomachi and Chinatown.

Yokohama Street Food Tour | Japan's Largest Chinatown!
In this video we take you on a Yokohama street food tour through Japan's largest Chinatown!
Yokohama (横浜) is the second largest city in Japan by population and it's a quick train ride from Tokyo, making it the perfect destination for a day trip. This is a port city that sits on the shores of Tokyo Bay, and while it has lots to offer in terms of attractions and sightseeing, we were drawn here by the food.
The cool thing about eating in Yokohama Chinatown (横浜中華街) is that you get a unique blend of Chinese food and Japanese food, plus you can also choose between street food and restaurants.
To get to Yokohama we took the Toyoko Line from Shibuya Station (渋谷駅). If you get on the express train you should get to Yokohama in 30 minutes, but we accidentally got on the slow train so it ended up taking over an hour - don't make our mistake!
Here's a list of the foods we tried on our visit to Yokohama Chinatown (横浜中華街):
- Steamed Buns (sweet beef with egg and onions) - ¥500
- Shiu Mai (shrimp and pork dumplings) - ¥380
- Sesame Balls (filled with sesame paste) - ¥310
- Egg Tarts - ¥180
- Spicy Ramen Soup - ¥800
- Mapo Tofu with Rice - ¥1200
- Steamed Panda Buns (matcha flavoured) - ¥320
- Bubble Tea - ¥350
Our one piece of advice for visiting this place is to come hungry! If you want to make the most of your very own Yokohama street food tour, you'll need a big appetite because there is so much food to try. We barely scratched the surface.

Yokohama Street Food Tour | Japan's Largest Chinatown! Transcript:
Alright good afternoon guys. It is time for another street food video. Today we're going to be taking you guys to Yokohama (横浜). It is 30 minutes south from Shibuya station (渋谷駅). So yeah a bit of an excursion for food. Yeah, first time leaving Tokyo and we've brought our appetites.
I didn't really explain why we're going to Yokohama but this is basically home to the largest Chinatown (横浜中華街) in all of Japan and also one of the largest Chinatown's in all of Asia. So perfect place for street food. We're going to have a mix of Japanese street food and Chinese street food.
We have made it to Yokohama Chinatown (横浜中華街). It took us a while to get here.
Yokohama street Chinatown (横浜中華街) is a great place for street food but if street food is not your thing you also have a whole bunch of Chinese restaurants to choose from and a lot of them are buffets so you pay a set fee and then you can eat as much as you want so definitely lots of food options here in Yokohama. This has been great so far. I mean we've only eaten at a couple of places and I'm already loving it.
We have now turned down one of the little side streets here in Chinatown (横浜中華街) and what I find really interesting is that it is not just all street food and restaurants. Down the little side streets we're also seeing like Chinese supermarkets. You have like massage parlors focusing on Chinese medicine and reflexology and you've got souvenir shops. I mean places to buy decorations for your home. And it is just so pretty to walk down these side streets as well because you have the red paper lanterns and the lights are starting to come on because it is late in the afternoon.
I hope you enjoyed our little street food tour of Chinatown (横浜中華街) here in Yokohama (横浜). We had a really fun time just eating so much food. It was delicious. Yeah. I'm leaving here stuffed and I don't feel like we spent that much money. No. That was cool. If you're planning to travel to Japan and you're going to be in Tokyo it is super easy to get to Yokohama (横浜). We'll see you guys in the next video. Bye for now.

Straight off the train at Yokohama Station we start our journey on the the Sea Bass ferry which will take us to Yamashita Park.

From there I will check out the science and technology exhibits at the Mitsubishi Industrial Museum while Cynthia visits the bustling streets of Chinatown.
We will meet back up for lunch at the historic themed Ramen Museum and after sampling the many noodle dishes we will split up to do some shopping.
Our final stop is Cosmo World, home to one of the largest ferris wheels in the world.

YOKOHAMA, Japan: Nissan Stadium, Ramen Museum, Cup Noodles Museum | Vlog 5
Yokohama, Japan is well known for soccer (or football ????) and ramen. In this video, you see the most famous attractions in both fields. In Shin-Yokohama, we visit the Nissan Stadium (also known as Yokohama Stadium), and the Ramen Museum, where you can try some of the best ramen bowls you'll ever have. Food in Japan is always delicious!
The Nissan Stadium is famous for the 2002 FIFA World Cup Final and is often used for major events in Japan. In 2020, it will also host Olympic soccer matches. Now that the Rugby World Cup is over, stadium visits have resumed.
From the Ramen Museum, we went to the Cup Noodles Museum, back in Minato Mirai 21, where you can learn about Momofuku Ando, the creator of instant ramen noodles, the history of instant ramen and cupnoodles. We closed the day visiting the mall across the street, World Porters, and enjoying the view from the Ferris wheel at Cosmo World.
Yokohama is perfect for a Tokyo day trip, but my advice? Stay longer ????
Yokohama is located in the Tokyo metro area and has one of the most beautiful waterfronts in Japan. In this series of videos, you will keep watching a detailed Yokohama, Japan tour, including a lot of things to do.

► WHO AM I?
Short answer: I am a Brazilian journalist living in the United States. After traveling the world working with sports, news, and events for over 15 years, I realized that what I really love is the travel part of it all. So I exchanged life in the newsrooms and stadiums for the daily challenge of being an independent content producer. I created this channel to share the beauties of the world... stuff that for so long I only kept to myself. Also to help people planning similar trips and to inspire more people to venture out and enjoy life!
Detailed answer: ????
P.S.: The guy who occasionally appears in the vlogs is my husband, Gordon. He is Canadian-American and is extremely camera shy, that's why he's behind the camera most of the time ;-)

Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan - virtual tour
Yokohama, officially the City of Yokohama, is the second largest city in Japan by population, and most populous municipality of Japan. It is the capital city of Kanagawa Prefecture. It lies on Tokyo Bay, south of Tokyo, in the Kantō region of the main island of Honshu. It is a major commercial hub of the Greater Tokyo Area.
The historic downtown port district, location of the first foreign settlement, is known as Kannai. Next to the waterfront Yamashita Park is the museum ship, Hikawa Maru, and the Yokohama Marine Tower, the tallest inland lighthouse in the world. Further inland lies Yokohama Chinatown, the largest Chinatown in Japan and one of the largest in the world. Nearby is Yokohama Stadium, the Yokohama Silk Museum, and the Yokohama Doll Museum. The Isezakichō and Noge areas offer many colourful shops and bars that, with their restaurants and stores catering to residents from China, Thailand, South Korea, and other countries, have an increasingly international flavour.
The small but fashionable Motomachi shopping area leads up to Yamate, or The Bluff as it used to be known, a 19th/early 20th century Westerners' settlement overlooking the harbour, scattered with foreigners' mansions. A foreigners' cemetery and the Harbour View Park is in the area. Within the park are a rose garden and the Kanagawa Museum of Modern Literature.
There are various points of interest in the futuristic Minato Mirai 21 harbourside redevelopment. The highlights are the Landmark Tower which was the tallest building in Japan, Queen's Square Yokohama and the Cosmo Clock 21, which was the tallest Ferris wheel in the world when it was built in 1989 and which also doubles as the world's biggest clock.
The Shin-Yokohama district, where the Shinkansen station is located, is some distance away from the harbour area, and features the 17,000 capacity Yokohama Arena, the Shin-Yokohama Raumen Museum and Nissan Stadium, known as the International Stadium Yokohama when it was the setting for the final for the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
The city is home to the Central League baseball team, the Yokohama BayStars, and the soccer teams, Yokohama F. Marinos and Yokohama F.C.
Sankei-en is a traditional Japanese-style garden in Naka Ward. Designed by businessman Tomitaro Hara, it contains seventeen old buildings brought from all over Japan, ten of which have been declared Important National Cultural Properties.
