I Went To An Abandoned Theme Park in South Korea Alone

Yongma Land is a small abandoned theme park in Yongmasan, Jungnang District in Seou that opened in 1983. This creepy amusement park is now filled with broken and decaying rides. It's now turned into an instagram hotspot (if you want to make the trek there)! Many kpop MVs are also shot at Yongma Land.
You want to travel from Seoul to Mangu Station, which is about 30-40 minutes. Then exit #1 and Yongma Land is about a 15 minute walk. It's kind of in a weird location so I just got a taxi. Taxi drivers know where it is because this theme park brings in so many visitors. You do need to pay an entrance fee of 10,000 won! It used to be 5,000 but all good things raise prices ????.
Apparently if you come at night or around sunset the owner will light up the rides! I was too scared to go at night since I'm unfamiliar with the area but if you're traveling with someone - go a bit before sunset for good lighting! Also be sure to go during the weekdays for no people. I basically had the park to myself.

Yongma Land - tour of an ex-amusement park in Seoul, South Korea
This amusement park has closed down, however, the owner works from a small office at the gate, and for 5,000w (around $5) he will let you in to tour around the decrepit rides and take photos. A fascinating place and worth a visit for the urban explorer who doesn't like to trespass.

Meetup & Yongma Land, Seoul, South Korea
So the first part of my journey was to a Meet Up at a coffee shop with some local iOS App developers. We sat around and talked about App design and learned about everyone's background on the subject. Then as the second part of my adventure, I headed off to Yongma Land... It was a bit difficult to get there from the Mangu Station, but I found a cab out front that got me there in less than 5 minutes. From there it was a little walk up a hill to the main entrance, but I finally made it.

Let's go to... Yongma Land // Abandoned Amusement Park in Seoul, South Korea
This weekend, we checked out Yongma Land, an abandoned amusement park in Seoul. It was closed due to lack of profitability, but the owner still allows visitors inside the park to explore and play around on all the old and forgotten rides. This place has been featured in many K-pop music videos, the most famous being Crayon Pop's - Bar Bar Bar.
Cinematic tour of Yongma land, an abandoned amusement park in Seoul.
Yongma Land is a small abandoned theme park in Seoul, South Korea, with a rusty old carousel, sun bleached images of ’80s rock stars and bumper cars that no longer bump... I visited while on a trip to Korea- It was incredible! I was alone the day I was there other than the owners milling around.
Yongma Land is rumored to be haunted- likely because of a film that was shot there that has a huge following in Hong Kong.
The park has also been used as a backdrop for many K-Pop music videos (K-pop is Korean pop music) there is a compilation video you can find of all the videos shot there (after you watch mine of course)...
I had a TON of fun editing this video- I may have overdone it... Let me know your thoughts please! The final cut is number 6, at a few points there are over 5 layers of audio. I love the final product- I compiled it from almost 2 hours of footage and too many hours of editing!!
I hope you enjoy!
The video was filmed in 4k, 24 frames per second sped up and compressed with natural audio. Then I cut it up again, slowed some clips and added short audio clips. Then I adjusted color to certain clips and finalized it again- and finally I added the 3 main audio clips, of the songs below, the sound of voices at an amusement park and howling wind. The sound of birds in the natural first cut that have been slowed, then accelerated are awesome! super creepy if you can pick them out! I added a texture filter to get the old movie look and the 4k 24 FPS turned out just perfectly choppy! The video turned out like an old super 8 reel appearance for those of us over 40...
Yes... I went full nerd!!!! And so did you for reading this far down! Thank you!

Yongma Land Abandoned Theme Park
Yongma Land was built in 1980, and had a fairly solid run as a small family-oriented amusement park. By 2011 tastes had moved on, and with attendance dwindling it closed down. Despite stories of a haunting or two, the root of its demise was likely just a matter of profit, when the construction of several, much larger and better located, theme parks lured the thrill-seekers away.
Now in the hands of an enterprising local businessman, the old Yongma Land is open again, but this time to revel in the poignant charm of its decay. For a small charge of 10,000 won (before was just 5,000 won) visitors are free to roam the old rides, no fence-jumping needed.
Mangu Station is the closest train station to Yongma Land. From there, you can take a bus most of the way or walk. Head for the gate and pass through the first one to a second gate, where there is a ticket booth. If the owner is in the office he’ll take your entry fee. And if not, there is a phone number you can call. Just mention 'Yongma Land'.
Yongma Land - An Abandoned Amusement Park in Seoul
My first attempt at editing! Yongma Land is an abandoned amusement park in Seoul, South Korea. It's used for lots of photo shoots & K-Pop music videos. Definitely worth the trip and only 5,000 won for entry! Visited February 2017.

Catch me out in Seoul's only abandoned amusement park trying to soak up as much Spooky Vibes as possible this Non-American Halloween Season™
Andy and I headed up the river (literally - we live south of the Han River) to Yongma Land, an abandoned amusement park that requires 3 minutes of hiking up a mountain to find. There are a few theories as to why it closed down, but it was most likely a financial issue, whether because Lotte World stole the show or because of mismanagement.
Either way, the grounds lie in ruin, but for 10,000₩ (basically $10) you can enter the eery park to take as many pictures as you want!
