A Japaense biggest red light district, Yoshiwara where you get a special massage. These days, even foreigners can take advantage of them. (It wasn't open for foreigners before) It takes about 20 to 25 minutes walking there from Asakusa Sensoji main gate.

Yoshiwara was the historic pleasure quarter of old Edo (Tokyo) and still exists in Tokyo in its modern form as a soapland district. Yoshiwara is now Senzoku 4-chome in Taito-ku located a 15-20 walk from Minowa subway station on the Hibiya Line.

【How to use 手水舎（Chohzusha)】～Correct manners～
Beware to the water shop. Take a ladle with your right hand and scoop up your hands. First purify your left hand with its handwash.
Then change the ladle to the left hand and purify the right hand with the same action.
Next, change the ladle on the right hand to rinse mouth again, store the hand water in the palm on the left and put it in the mouth (do not put a mouth directly on the bowl of the ladle). Rinse mouth with no sound and cleanse, gently spit out. Clear the left hand again with the previous action.
Finally hold the handle of the ladle with one hand, tilt the bowl portion upwards, rinse the handle with rinse water. Gently put the ladle back to its original position and bow.

On this day, John visits the Yoshiwara for the Oiran Dochu, a parade re-enacted annually to preserve the old traditions of the neighborhood. The event is attracting more visitors and it's time to explain exactly what you're seeing!
Geisha vs Oiran: What's the difference?
I ask Grigoris Miliaresis, a journalist living and studying Asakusa and historical Japanese culture.
The faces may be white, but the wig, hair ornaments, kimono, colors, even feet are totally different!
How much was a night with an oiran?
According to Grigoris, it cost 1 year's salary for a normal worker!
The Orian were not your usual prostitutes in the western sense.
* Oiran choose their clients
* Oiran met 3 times with a new client before anything “romantic” occurred.
* The were as talented as geisha in the arts and, because they had extravagant dress and style, Oiran were like the movie stars, the pin up girls for men.
Does this make them better than geisha?
Perhaps.
The Oiran Dochu is held on the first Saturday in April every year.

東京 三ノ輪 背面地蔵尊
昭和の壊されゆく東京の下町の木造家屋 保存工事がされていました！ Tokyo downtown of wooden houses of the Showa era, Yanaka in Taito
2015年1月29日に撮影。東京の墨田区、台東区、荒川区、北区などの下町でかつて街に独特なイメージと、散策する人に憩いと癒しを与えていた木造住宅がどんどん壊され、無粋な建物にとって変わって久しいですが、都立谷中霊園近くの街なかを通っていたら、なにやら数件の木造住宅が工事中。ここも壊されていくのかとため息をついてよく眺めていたら外側の壁の板の一部が真新しくなっていたので、たまたま工事の人が通り、聞いてみたら、この数件の木造住宅は保存するために改修工事をしているとのこと。保存工事に行政がかかわっているのかどうかまでは聞きませんでしたが、嬉しくなって撮影しました。奥の方の玄関と空き地は、昔はおなじみの光景。
近くの台東区立下町風俗資料館付設展示場（旧吉田屋酒店）に行かれたら、ここにも寄って、工事中ですので少し遠くからでも、在りし日の下町の木造住宅が並んでいる光景を見ていかれてはどうですか…

吉原弁財天---東京都台東区
2014年8月10日撮影。
東京都台東区千束3-22-3にある吉原弁財天。今は近くの吉原神社の一部となっている。江戸時代吉原が栄えた頃は一帯は弁天池、または花園池と呼ばれる大きな池があったらしい。大正12年関東大震災の時、火事で逃げ場を失った遊女達がこの池に飛び込み490名が水死。彼女達を弔うため観音像や地蔵が建立されています。奥に弁財天が祀ってあり、弁天池も非常に小さくはなったがまだ残っており、鯉が泳いでいます。

Walking around the back streets of Asakusa 浅草, Tokyo. 4K DJI Osmo Mobile 2
In this video you'll see some of the less visited parts of Asakusa in Tokyo. The walk starts at the end of Hisago-Dori one of the older shopping streets located west of the Senso-ji temple grounds. From there we will continue through some of the alleyways lined with cosy local bars as well as another covered shopping street.
Eventually we will reach Senso-ji temple and follow one of the smaller side streets all the way to the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line Asakusa Station.
Shot in May 2018 with a DJI Osmo Mobile 2 and a Huawei Mate 9. 4K/UHD resolution.
