Is Xinjiang China's Most Dangerous Province?
Join YPT in the deserts and oasis towns of China’s Far West!
From the ancient city of Kashgar, through small Uyghur towns on the southern Silk Road, we cross the Taklamakan Desert to Turpan, the lowest city in China at 142m below sea level.
The Xinjiang Far West tour starts in the historic city of Kashgar, closer geographically to Tehran and Damascus than to Beijing, a border town between China and the Central Asian states of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, and the site where traditional Uyghur life hits the Chinese state head-on. We visit the old town, livestock market and main bazaar and, being YPT, can’t miss out on the huge statue of Chairman Mao in People’s Square.
We check out small Uyghur towns that haven’t been developed along the Kashgar model, yet, and skirt the Taklamakan Desert as we go. On the north of the desert, we spend a day at Kuqa’s amazing Thousand Buddha caves, reminding us that before the spread of Islam southern Xinjiang was the place where Buddhism entered China.
Lastly, we hang out in the Turpan, China’s Death Valley, the lowest and hottest place in China. In the countryside outside the city, it’s surprisingly green though and we wander the ruins of ancient cities and stop in a Uyghur holy village for lunch.

My LIFE in NORTH KOREA - a TRIP to PYONGYANG!
North Korea has been on my list for years and finally I made it. This short VLOG should give you a little impression of what it is like to travel to the DPRK or better known as North Korea.
I went on a 3-days tour starting in Dandong, China. I went with Young Pioneer Tours and it was an incredible experience.
I don't have an opinion on whether it was staged or not, whether they are bad or good, or how I feel about the whole trip. I went to the DPRK as a tourist and for a cultural exchange. From human to human, without a political agenda.

Pyongyang City Bicycle Tour
Ever since Pyongyang had recently installed new bike lanes throughout its districts, it struck us as a great idea to hold Pyongyang’s first ever leisurely city cycle tour. With three successful bicycle city tours already under our belt, we'd like to continue holding our bike tours twice a year. So for two of our five day tours, we will keep our tour bus stationary as we hit the pavement with our locally made DPRK bicycles!
This will give us the greatest advantage to not only commute amongst the locals of Pyongyang but for fantastic photo opportunities as well as enjoying the perfect weather and climate during this season.

President Xi Stresses Meeting People's Desire during Inspection to Anhui
Chinese President Xi Jinping urged Party and government officials to map out reform measures catering to people's desire, anticipating many hardships to be solved in the country's reform.
Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks during his inspection tour to east China's Anhui Province from Sunday to Wednesday on the region's implementation of the 2016-2020 national development plan.
Acknowledging the pressure from downward economic trends and growing social issues, Xi said that bottom-line responsibility to ensure people's livelihoods should be fulfilled and reform should start with the issues people feel most strongly about.
He noted that as supply-side structural reform deepens, some employees will be laid off, thus the government should pay more attention to employment, create more jobs, and implement and improve assistance measures.
Xi cited methods such as encouraging businesses to arrange more job openings, creating public welfare jobs as well as policy support to help people find jobs as soon as possible.
The president urged various local regions to bear in mind their own realities when following development plans to optimize current supply structures, improve product quality, foster new industries and offer new products and services.
During his inspection tour, Xi visited old revolutionary base area, rural areas, university and research institutes as well as enterprises to learn the social-economic development situation.
For his first stop on Sunday, Xi visited the Jinzhai County of Luan City, an old revolutionary base area, to learn about local people's livelihood.
He said China's poverty reduction drive has now entered the home stretch, which requires the government to be resolute and accomplish the toughest job.
To achieve the goal, well-targeted assistance should be provided to the poor, and every project and measure should be carried out carefully, Xi said.
We sincerely hope that the central government's key requirements on poverty reduction can be implemented here so as to win the tough battle against poverty. Our Party and government should work with full love for the people, especially people in the old revolutionary areas. We should not let down the wishes of the revolutionary martyrs and should try our best to drive up the economy in these areas and let the people there live a happy life. I believe you surely will fulfill this historic mission, and I wish all the best to you, Xi said to the local people.
On Monday afternoon, Xi visited the Xiaogang Village of Fengyang County - the pioneer of China's rural reform in 1978 and where the farmers first carried out household contract responsibility system with remuneration linked to output.
Xi encouraged the villagers to be enthusiastic in planting grain and increase efficiency, so that it will bring more economic profits for them.
Seeing the sound infrastructure facilities in the village and farmers' living conditions, Xi said the drastic changes in Xiaogang Village mirror China's overall development since 1978, and it's showing that reform is the only way out for the country.
The President went to the provincial capital Hefei on Tuesday, visiting the University of Science and Technology of China as well as its Institute of Advanced Technology.
He listened to briefing on the university's various achievements on scientific and technological research and also visited labs and talked with students.
Xi commended the university and Anhui Province's achievements on scientific and technological research, and called for the students and researchers to focus on innovation and contribute more to China's modernization.
School life is a very important period for the young students. At this stage, you should concentrate on your studies without distraction. Master all kinds of knowledge to serve the 1.3 billion people, the Chinese nation and the state. Be sure to study hard, study both the academic knowledge and how to be a decent person, before your enter the society, said Xi.
Xi spoke highly of the province's efforts and achievements in social-economic development, expecting it to further emancipate their mind, do practical work and be enterprising and innovative, so as to find a new way for the rise of China's central regions.

Detained student presented to the media in Pyongyang
(29 Feb 2016) An American student detained in Pyongyang since January was presented to media by North Korean authorities on Monday.
It's the first time that Otto Warmbier has been seen by foreign media since North Korea announced his arrest via the state news agency on 22 January.
North Korean authorities claimed the University of Virginia undergraduate had been detained for perpetrating a hostile act against the DPRK (North Korea) at the tacit connivance of the US government and under its manipulation.
While addressing the media and members of Pyongyang's diplomatic community, 21-year-old Warmbier acknowledged and apologised for the alleged crime, which involved the theft of a political slogan from a staff-only section of the hotel where he had been staying.
Previous foreign detainees in North Korea have said after their release that authorities there coached them in what to say at public appearances or put them under pressure to make apologies for their actions.
Former detainees often recant such admissions after their release.
A China-based tour operator specialising in trips to North Korea, Young Pioneer Tours, arranged Warmbier's trip to Pyongyang over New Year's Eve, and said that North Korean authorities stopped him boarding a flight back to Beijing on 2 January.
Warmbier had been staying at the Yanggakdo International Hotel, a common place for tourists to stay.
It is normal for parts of tourist hotels to be reserved for North Korean staff and off-limits to foreigners.
North Korea regularly accuses Washington and Seoul of sending spies to overthrow its government to enable the US-backed South Korean government to control the Korean Peninsula.

An American tourist's independent tour of North Korea in May 2010. This is 2 of 4 Videos total, for almost 5 hrs of footage. North Korea allows a 21st Century visitor to time travel back to China during the Cultural Revolution or to Russia during Stalin. I recommend a visit there to see this bizarre country: it's open to almost everyone and is extremely safe for tourists. The tour Company I used is Young Pioneer Tours. They are not very organized but do offer younger, smaller group sizes which I like. If you are more risk adverse and prefer a well-run, stress free tour company, and can live with an older, larger group size, Koyro Tours, a British owned tour company based in Beijing, is highly recommended and they do a great job.
A big disclaimer with these videos: I went as a tourist and this is a propaganda tour. This is not representative of most of North Korea. This is their Disney World I saw: look for real hidden video that is smuggled out of the country before drawing any conclusions.
And one more thing, Shame on South Koreans for allowing the North Korean regime to continue existing. This is even more tragic than the Holocaust, because South Korea knows exactly what is happening there and yet they allow their enslaved brothers and sisters to suffer and perish in silence.

Set off from Beijing Train Station to Dandong, China. Train passage to North Korea is the best way to see the countryside and get to know some elite North Korean passengers, without your Govt. minders present. Americans have to fly into the capitol however (unless you have dual citizenship).

Arrive in Pyongyang by train. Meet with Government Minders who serve as the tour guides (two of them) and who rarely leave your side. There is also a separate driver.
Drive to Yanggakdo Hotel and discuss itinerary for the trip. This is a very large high-rise hotel on its own little island in Pyongyang. The hotel is one of about 3 that foreigners stay at in the city. It's nice, very quiet: and it's difficult to leave the hotel grounds without having a guard pointing you back.

Songdowon Recreational Park: walk along beach- very nice place- saw lots of women picking wild plants and grass in the park to supplement their diet.

Drive to Mr. Kympang - see the Garyong Falls: great hiking: just me and a Japanese traveler along with guides and some very few North Koreans- First time guides had ever seen this mountain- was closed to South Korea because of an earlier shooting death of a South Korean tourist.

Drive back to Pyongyang: lots of rain: very bumpy ride- the highways are empty yet the roads are in terrible shape: felt like horseback riding at 60 mph.
Dinner at National Restaurant: which we did not get to because it had closed: instead took dinner at the hotel

North Korea has temporarily closed its borders to tourists in response to an outbreak of a new coronavirus, a tour operator has said. The virus, which originated in Wuhan in China, has infected almost 300 people. Young Pioneer Tours said in a statement that the ban on tourists would be in place temporarily and was being implemented as a precaution. Earlier on Monday, Chinese officials confirmed for the first time that the virus could pass from person to person. At the same time Chinese state media said six people had died from the infection, which causes a type of pneumonia. In its statement, Young Pioneer Tours said: As of Wednesday 22 January, 2020, the DPRK [North Korea] will temporarily close its borders to all foreign tourists as a precaution to the coronavirus. Further details are yet to be confirmed by our travel partners in North Korea and we will continue to make all future announcements on our website. Another tour group that travels to North Korea, Koryo Tours, also tweeted about possible limits to tourist entry. Some experts have previously warned that international sanctions on North Korea had hit the country's healthcare system, by restricting the delivery of aid and medical equipment. Last November, US doctor Kee B Park wrote in USA Today: I have seen how the North Korean doctors have adapted to scarcity. For example, they reuse intravenous catheters, scalpels, gauze and gloves by meticulously cleaning and re-sterilising them - until they become unusable.Where has the virus spread? A total of 291 cases have now been reported across major cities in China, including Beijing and Shanghai. However, most are in Wuhan, the central city of 11 million people at the heart of the outbreak. The disease was first identified there late last year, and the outbreak is believed to be linked to a seafood market that also sells live animals. A handful of cases have also been identified abroad: two in Thailand, one in Japan, one in South Korea and one in Taiwan. Those infected had recently returned from Wuhan. Authorities in many places, including Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Japan have stepped up screening of air passengers from Wuhan. US authorities last week announced similar measures at airports in San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York. In Australia, a man who had travelled to Wuhan has been placed in isolation and is undergoing tests. China is the largest source of tourists to Australia, with more than a million Chinese citizens visiting last year. But the measures being put in place by North Korea are the strictest so far. A report by the Centre for Global Infectious Disease Analysis at Imperial College, London, suggested there could be more than 1,700 infections. However, Gabriel Leung, the dean of medicine at the University of Hong Kong, put the figure closer to 1,300.What else do we know about
