Spring Festival with an international flavor: A Canadian expat in Beijing
When Daniel Mulroy, originally from Canada, first attended a Spring Festival feast in China in 2001, he was amazed to see the grand meal at his boss's home and couldn't understand why the family spent all day cooking for only a few people. But now, after living in Beijing for nearly a decade, he has known well the significance of the traditional festival and even enjoys preparing for it. Mulroy met his future wife Ge Qian, a Beijing local, in Canada and followed her all the way to the Chinese capital. They are now raising two little children. Here's his story.

Mastering Chinese Poetry Ep. 1: Classic poem on working harder for a better life 《登鸛雀樓》
Each culture is embedded with words, customs, literature, music or other patterns of expression to reflect its history. This is true about Chinese culture as well. With a history of more than 5,000 years, Chinese poetry has provided a format and a forum for both public and private expressions of deep emotions.
CGTN's special series Mastering Chinese Poetry prepares a list of Chinese poems that offer clues to Chinese history and culture through ancient expressions. In the first episode, we look at one of the classic poems in the history of Chinese literature: On the Stork Tower. The poem was written by Chinese poet Wang Zhihuan during the glorious age of the Tang Dynasty (618-907). In modern times, Chinese people love to use its lines to encourage young people to work harder to have a better life.

David & Jian - Encounters in China | A China Icons Video
David Stern (USA) met Wang Jian (China) by chance in 1979 - it was the start of a lifelong friendship that changes the world of classical music.
They first met when David visited Beijing with his father, famed violinist Isaac Stern. Wang Jian was just nine years old and was asked to play the cello for Mr Stern. The moment Wang Jian drew his bow, David knew he was a special musician.
Wang Jian went on to study at Yale University in America, where David was also studying music. They became close friends as David helped Wang Jian get to grips with Ameican culture.
Today, Wang Jian is a world-famous cellist and David is a renowned conductor. They both travel the world performing music – and even occasionally perform together.
