Linggu Temple (P-1) Nanjing, China
LINGGU TEMPLE (The Soul Valley Temple)
Linggu Temple Scenic Area is the third most beautiful expanse at the southern slope of Purple Mountain (Mount Zijin), in the eastern suburbs of Nanjing city, better known as Purple Mountain Scenic Area, besides Mausoleum of Dr. Sun Yat Sen and Xiaoling Mausoleum of Ming Dynasty. The entry fee to the Linggu Scenic Area is 35 Yuan (6 US$) in April 2016. It is about 4-5 hour entertainment area for tourists with limited time.
Once called Kaishan Temple, Linggu Temple was built 1500 years ago in 515 AD during Liang Dynasty. The present name was given to the temple by Ming emperor Zhu in 1368. Once it was considered the best Buddhist temples in the world, with an area of 74 acre. It was destroyed around 1858 AD and rebuilt in the next decade. It is surrounded by centuries old trees and a wonderful park adorned with a number of magnificent buildings including Beamless Hall, splendid pavilions including Songfeng Pavilion, a nine-storey 200 feet high pagoda, etc. The temple also houses the ‘Three Superb Tablet’ with masterpieces of three great Chinese masters, a painter, a poet and a calligrapher. No visit to Nanjing is complete without a visit to this scenic area.

Nanjing Vlog Day 3|Jiming Temple & Nanjing Museum 雞鳴寺 南京博物院|4K
Jiming Temple:Within the temple are Guanyin Hall (观音殿), Huomeng Building (豁蒙楼), and the Medicine Buddha Pagoda (Chinese: 药师佛塔). The Rouge Well (胭脂井), got its name from a legend that the emperor of the Southern Tang Dynasty and his concubine hid themselves in the well to escape enemy pursuit. The stains of rouge were left on the well: hence the name of Rouge Well.
The seven-story pagoda overlooks Xuanwu Lake. There is an entrance to the Nanjing City Wall from the rear of the temple. Behind the temple there remains a section of palace wall called Taicheng.

The Temples and Treasures of Nanjing China
Nanjing, one of China’s most significant cities, is recognized as one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China along with Beijing, Xi’an, and Luoyang. Nanjing’s history begins in ancient times, as long ago as 500,000 years, as evidenced by the excavation of a pre-historical skull in a cave on
the outskirts of the city. Due to its strategic location along the Yangtze
River and at the halfway mark on China’s coastline, Nanjing served as the capital of 10 Chinese dynasties and regimes over 1,800 years, notably the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1421) and The Republic of China (1927 - 1937 and 1945 – 1949).

Nanjing (About this soundlisten), formerly romanized as Nanking and Nankin,[5] is the capital of Jiangsu province of the People's Republic of China and the second largest city in the East China region,[b] with an administrative area of 6,600 km2 (2,500 sq mi) and a total population of 8,270,500 as of 2016.[6] The inner area of Nanjing enclosed by the city wall is Nanjing City (南京城), with an area of 55 km2 (21 sq mi), while the Nanjing Metropolitan Region includes surrounding cities and areas, covering over 60,000 km2 (23,000 sq mi), with a population of over 30 million.
Situated in the Yangtze River Delta region, Nanjing has a prominent place in Chinese history and culture, having served as the capital of various Chinese dynasties, kingdoms and republican governments dating from the 3rd century to 1949,[7] and has thus long been a major center of culture, education, research, politics, economy, transport networks and tourism, being the home to one of the world's largest inland ports. The city is also one of the fifteen sub-provincial cities in the People's Republic of China's administrative structure,[8] enjoying jurisdictional and economic autonomy only slightly less than that of a province.[9] Nanjing has been ranked seventh in the evaluation of Cities with Strongest Comprehensive Strength issued by the National Statistics Bureau, and second in the evaluation of cities with most sustainable development potential in the Yangtze River Delta. It has also been awarded the title of 2008 Habitat Scroll of Honor of China, Special UN Habitat Scroll of Honor Award and National Civilized City.[10] Nanjing boasts many high-quality universities and research institutes, with the number of universities listed in 100 National Key Universities ranking third, including Nanjing University which has a long history and is among the world top 10 universities ranked by Nature Index.[11] The ratio of college students to total population ranks No.1 among large cities nationwide. Nanjing is one of the top three Chinese scientific research centers, according to the Nature Index,[12] especially strong in the chemical sciences.
Nanjing, one of the nation's most important cities for over a thousand years, is recognized as one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China. It has been one of the world's largest cities, enjoying peace and prosperity despite wars and disasters.[13][14][15][16] Nanjing served as the capital of Eastern Wu (229–280), one of the three major states in the Three Kingdoms period; the Eastern Jin and each of the Southern dynasties (Liu Song, Southern Qi, Liang and Chen), which successively ruled southern China from 317–589; the Southern Tang (937–75), one of the Ten Kingdoms; the Ming dynasty when, for the first time, all of China was ruled from the city (1368–1421);[17] and the Republic of China (1927–37, 1946–49) prior to its flight to Taiwan during the Chinese Civil War.[18] The city also served as the seat of the rebel Taiping Heavenly Kingdom (1853–64) and the Japanese puppet regime of Wang Jingwei (1940–45) during the Second Sino-Japanese War. It suffered severe atrocities in both conflicts, including the Nanjing Massacre.
Nanjing has served as the capital city of Jiangsu province since the establishment of the People's Republic of China. It boasts many important heritage sites, including the Presidential Palace and Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum. Nanjing is famous for human historical landscapes, mountains and waters such as Fuzimiao, Ming Palace, Chaotian Palace, Porcelain Tower, Drum Tower, Stone City, City Wall, Qinhuai River, Xuanwu Lake and Purple Mountain. Key cultural facilities include Nanjing Library, Nanjing Museum and Nanjing Art Museum.

In this episode of My Life in China, we meet Billy Vazquez, an AYC Educational Ambassador living and working in Nanjing, Jiangsu, China.
Over the National Day holiday, Billy spent an evening with his headmaster's family. He got to experience a great meal with great people and shared a lot of stories about his own family.
Billy spent the remainder of his holiday with fellow AYCers John, Kelly and Richard in Zhangjiajie. Several overnight trains, buses and taxis later, they made it to the incredibly scenic area filled with monkeys, nature and history.
Back in Nanjing, Billy took part in a city-wide scavenger hunt. Teams ran around the city completing tasks such as helping street sweepers, doing dishes in local restaurants, and other such community service oriented tasks. Billy even had the honor of cleaning a public toilet. The goal of the scavenger hunt was to help foreigners get to know their adopted city and strengthen bonds within the community.
He was able to go on a field trip with his students in the fourth grade to Yuejiang tower.
He delved into Halloween and discovered the downside of teaching students about trick-or-treating. He told them to stop by his office and he would give them candy, though wasn't exactly prepared for the amount of students eager for snacks.
Catch up with him next month, and in the meantime, subscribe and check back for new episodes weekly.
