Cuandixia mountain village - China
100 km away from Beijing there is a picturesque mountain village called Cuandixia Village. This village is located at the valley of Jingxi mountain area, and it is known for its well preserved 500 Ming and Qing dynasty-style courtyard houses owned by 70 families, ancient but unsophisticated, just like another “Shangri-la”.
These houses on the hillside have remained largely unchanged for centuries, surrounded by mountains and luxuriant forests. Steep stairs and lanes paved with rocks are simple and unadorned.
The village was rated as a village of great tourist value and has been placed under national level cultural relics protection. It is also a great place to take photos.

The old quarter of Taigu and its glorious past (Episode 1/2)
Vendors peddling snacks down cobbled alleyways, the whir of an antique sewing machine… life in Taigu, north China’s Shanxi Province, seems typical, almost mundane. But, once upon a time, this county was the wealthiest place in China, where the rich and powerful merchants built their castle-like courtyard homes. Join Min-Zhui Lee in the first of two episodes in Taigu as she unearths the glorious past of China’s ancient “Wall Street”.

Journey Walking Up Taoist Wudang Mountain in China
Journey to China and the Wudang Mountains where we train Tai Chi, Qigong and practice meditation. We also meet very interesting people, even wise people who live in caves on Wudang Mountain. Plus you get to eat some of the best mountain grown, organic vegetables which is absolutely delicious!
This video begins as we are about to start our accent walking over 10,000 stairs to get to where Golden Summit is at the top of Wudang Mountain. For hundreds of years people have climbed Wudang seeking enlightenment.
You can walk which takes around 3 hours of breath taking scenery as you will see from the video clips I have taken along the way. Or you can take a bus most of the way and then a cable car to almost the top. This is a great option for people who are suffering form injury or illness and still have a chance of making i to the sacred top, where the scenery is out of this world! - Terry Hodgkinson, Tao Travels - Journeys that Enlighten the Soul.
Golden Summit History:
The peak attraction in Wudang is Jinjian (the Golden Summit), which shines as the alpine range's highest and most sacred point.
The construction of holy edifices on the Golden Summit began with an order from Tang Dynasty (AD 618-907) Emperor Li Shimin (626-649).
The highest peak of Wudang Shan is the Sky Piller Peak which measures 1,612 m.
Other Places We Visit on Wudand Mountain:
The Purple Heaven Palace: This temple was a filming sight for the movie Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. The courtyard of this temple is used in the mornings by our Tia Chi school that is located within the mountain.
Carefree Valley: Though it is much lower on the mountain than most of the other sights, Care Free Valley is probably the most beautiful location in all of Wudang Shan. Dragon Spring Lake is located at the beginning of the trails that lead into Care Free Valley. This lake is one of the locations used in the 2010 film The Karate Kid with Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith. The path that leads into the valley follows a small peaceful stream that cuts between the mountains and winds forest covered hills.
Dragon Spring Lake:
This is a fantastic place for natural beauty and also to get up close with monkeys. One needs to be-careful however, as some of them may try to grab your food.
Wudang Martial Arts:
According to legend Wudang Shan is the birthplace of Tai Chi and the Wudang style of martial arts. This style of martial arts includes Tai Chi and is distinct to southern China while the Shoalin school of martial arts is much more prominent in northern China. We will be training with at one of the oldest Tai Chi schools on Wudang Mountain. This is a real blessing and a real treat to be able to watch their teachers move like silk as they demonstrate so many of their Qigong and Tai Chi forms.

Fujian Tulou (UNESCO/NHK)
Fujian Tulou is a property of 46 buildings constructed between the 15th and 20th centuries over 120 km in south-west of Fujian province, inland from the Taiwan Strait. Set amongst rice, tea and tobacco fields the Tulou are earthen houses. Several storeys high, they are built along an inward-looking, circular or square floor plan as housing for up to 800 people each. They were built for defence purposes around a central open courtyard with only one entrance and windows to the outside only above the first floor. Housing a whole clan, the houses functioned as village units and were known as a little kingdom for the family or bustling small city. They feature tall fortified mud walls capped by tiled roofs with wide over-hanging eaves. The most elaborate structures date back to the 17th and 18th centuries. The buildings were divided vertically between families with each disposing of two or three rooms on each floor. In contrast with their plain exterior, the inside of the tulou were built for comfort and were often highly decorated. They are inscribed as exceptional examples of a building tradition and function exemplifying a particular type of communal living and defensive organization, and, in terms of their harmonious relationship with their environment, an outstanding example of human settlement.

2018 China: Zhangbi Ancient Village
Zhangbi Ancient Village, also known as Zhangbi Ancient Castle, is an ancient multi-functional castle, combining military, residential, productive, and religious functions into a little-known small-scale locale.
The castle was built in 617 AD at an altitude of 1,040 meters (3,412 feet) above sea level. It has a total circumference of 1,300 meters (4,265 feet) and an area of 2,000 square meters (3 acres).
The village is home to historic relics and monuments, including remains from the Xia (2070–1600 BC) and Shang (1600–1046 BC) dynasties and underground tunnels from the Sui (581–618) and Tang (618–907) dynasties.
What's more, it also retains tombs from the Jin Dynasty (1115–1234), theater stages from the Yuan Dynasty (1279–1368), and residences from the Ming (1368–1644) and Qing (1636–1911) dynasties.
Along the streets stand elegant shops and quaint houses. Among all the precious relics, the tunnels of the Sui and Tang dynasties, the Liu Wuzhou Temple, and glazed steles are types that are rarely seen of their kind in China.
Underneath this ancient village is an amazing underground tunnel network. These hidden underground tunnels were actually the entire defense system of Zhangbi Ancient Village. The tunnel system is divided into three layers and the total length of it reaches 3,000 meters. The top layer is only 1 meter (3 feet) deep from the ground, the middle is 8 to 10 meters (26–32 feet) deep, and the bottom is 17 to 20 meters (55–65 feet) deep.
Walking in the secret tunnels, visitors might feel like they are entering a labyrinth. Its passages hide mangers, kilns, caves, wells, grain silos, flood-prevention facilities, wall-hole communication facilities, and assassination devices, which all dye the castle in a color of mystery.

Changsha Meixihu, China - Zaha Hadid
Changsha Meixihu International Culture and Art Centre
by : Zaha Hadid
Construction is now underway on a Zaha Hadid-designed cultural complex on the edge of a lake in Changsha, China .
The project, which broke ground in October, features an 1800-seat theatre, a contemporary art museum and a smaller multi-purpose venue. Each building is planned as a grouping of petal-shaped volumes that curve around one another to create a central plaza and a series of connecting lawns, terraces and pathways.
The Grand Theatre will be the largest of the three buildings and will positioned at the entrance to the site, while the smaller 500-seat venue is to be positioned opposite and will open out to a sunken courtyard lined with shops and restaurants.
The museum is planned for the edge of Meixihu Road and will feature a central atrium that separates to form three wings. On one side, the gallery will lead out to an external plaza for use as a sculpture exhibition area or as a temporary event space.
