Zhostovo painting is an old Russian folk handicraft of painting on metal trays, which still exists in a village of Zhostovo in the Moscow Oblast. It appeared in the early 19th century mainly under the influence of the Ural handicraft of flower painting on metal. Subsequent development of the Zhostovo painting handicraft was stylistically related to porcelain and enamel painting techniques, used by factories near Moscow, flower motifs on printed cotton, produced by the Ivanovo factories, and Lukutin miniature .

Russia: Porcelain factory begins selling luxury tableware with Putin

The Sysert porcelain factory near Yekaterinburg has started selling unique luxury tableware with the portrait of Russian President Vladimir Putin, footage filmed on Tuesday shows.

Starting from 32,600 roubles (€415, $470), customers can acquire a plate decorated with the face of the Russian president. Other similarly priced items come with the portrait of Tsar Nicholas II.

According porcelain factory's director, Alexander Trofimov, the plates are made exclusively for individual customers who need this particular piece of art with a portrait.

Painter Irina Kolyasnikova says it is a big responsibility to paint the President, adding that it is a bit scary.

The Sysert factory was founded in 1960. It is famous for its porcelain, and in 2018 the factory was also responsible for the FIFA World Cup Russia souvenirs.
