Sandeep Patel House, Vadodara
Project: Sandeep Patel House
Typology: Stand-alone House
Location: Ahmedabad, Gujarat
Design Firm: Modi Srivastava Associates, Vadodara
With minimalism as the mantra, the house exhibits a timeless design with sequence of spaces that slowly reveal themselves in transition; bringing nature into the space
It's a cliché that living in a city is hive and chaotic. The residence for Sandeep Patel in Ahmedabad, designed by architect Hitesh Modi intends to dispel the myth. Bringing nature into the space, the home not only exhibits luxury but crafts a subtle environment. From nature comes serenity, so the phrase goes. This timeless design is conceived as a sequence of spaces that slowly reveal themselves in transition.
The façade is riddled with a combination of positive spaces and negative spaces, with verandas and openings letting in generous amount of daylight and views. The Exterior was thought as a natural palette of timeless materials such as exposed concrete, exposed brick & white cement stone to create a timeless building without any temporary facade treatments. The colour palette is limited with the use of greys and brick colours.
As concept to create a timeless aesthetics, the designer has used the Royale Play International Designer Collection by Asian Paints to clothe the walls, allowing for the desired effect. The entrance of the villa is punctuated with a statue of Lord Ganesha, finished in a traditional gold. The innovative yet delicate art of leafing in gold is done with the Royale Play Midas bringing the distinction of royalty and history into the space. This opulent finish instantly transforms the statue into art that transcends time.
An Open plan layout has been followed, creating a visual connect between spaces. The entire space is visible from the vestibule. The ground floor has a drawing room with huge windows on one side, living area, kitchen and a puja room. The first-floor houses the master bedroom, family sitting, study area, children’s room and a guest room. Furniture in the guest bedroom has been done in cement finish.
Since minimalism was the mantra, the walls were left white, allowing to bring live colour in soft furnishing, paintings & art works. The white walls act as a canvas to display art, which gives identity to individual spaces. Natural wooden tones are best used in small doses as an accent, which sets the tone. White marble was chosen for flooring in most of the rooms. A natural material palette has been adopted, with the play of light being a key element.
