Hayle Cornwall, The old swing bridge & King George V memorial walk & gardens, 3/02/2012
At the moment theres lots of work going on here, workmen are building a new bridge to take vehicles & using the old swing bridge just for pedestrians believe its listed, work has been going on all last summer, expected to be finished before summer 2012, back in the 1970s i remember seeing the barriers coming down to stop the traffic while the trains used to carry the coal over to the power station, all of that has gone now & the power station closed back in the early 80s, i continue my walk along the King George the fifth memorial gardens, this is looking abit bare & colourless now but later on it looks really beautiful, surprised to see the thickness of ice in the ponds from our recent cold snap!

Invasion around Hayle estuary - Part Three: Hayle to Godrevy
Part Three of three. In the summer of 1940 Britain was expecting invasion. The beaches of the Hayle estuary were considered potential landing sites for the German forces. This video looks at why that was so and at what remains of the defences that were built to protect Cornwall from invasion. The journey starts at Hayle and follows the coast eastwards to Godrevy before heading back to Hayle on the other side of the Towans. Make sure you have watched Parts 1 and 2 to get the full context.

Decoy Site for Hayle SF68A
When some of the smaller towns and cities in Britain were being hit in what became known as The Baedeker Raids, Hayle on the north Cornish coast was considered at risk. The town housed Cornwall's only power station, the Octel works producing bromide for aviation fuel, various engineering and boat building facilities, a harbour and the railway. It was decided to build a temporary Starfish decoy site known as SF68A on Upton Towans. This video tells the story and looks at what remains of the site today. Filmed in June 2011.
Can you add any detail to what is known about the decoy site? Did any of your relatives serve there? Do you have any wartime photographs of the site or its personnel? If so, please leave a comment.
The music featured is Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition, Show me the way to go home and You'll be nice to come home to all sung by a wartime Army Choir and Roll me over by Prima Scala and his Accordian Band.
Thanks for looking. Please check out my other videos on World War Two sites in Cornwall.

St Elwyn's church, Hayle
This video is of the inside of St Elwyn's church at Hayle, Cornwall, UK. This big church was built between 1886-1888 but even though this is a big church, the parish is not very small. A few weeks ago some sad news came out that the church is 'at risk' of closing down because of not enough money to repair it. This has happened to a lot of other churches in Cornwall like Polperro, St Paul's in Truro, Mithian and Baldhu. St Paul's church in Truro could not stay open because they were told they would need £1 Million (about $13, 000, 000
