Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve is a popular site located in a rolling wooded area near Mahomet, Illinois. This beautiful preserve occupies almost 900 acres along the corridor of the Sangamon River. Highlighting Lake of the Woods are several well-known attractions: the Early American Museum, Mabery Gelvin Botanical Garden, and Lake of the Woods Golf Course.

Young Mitchell & Jarrod's Travel Report

This week we introduce our long awaited summer intern, Young Mitchell. And thanks to Young Mitchell this week's video actually went through the editing phase. Jarrod & Mitchell discuss their travels together around Illinois in the last four days. Yesterday they visited Princeton and the Hennepin Canal Parkway State Park. Then moved onto Matthiessen State Park for some hiking, photographing & video making. They did make mention of nearby Buffalo Rock State Park, even though they did not stop. This week they also went out to the Clubhouse at Lake of the Woods for a scouting trip for tonight’s Champaign County Forest Preserve District photo shot. Crisp and professional head shots are in the works. Jarrod flipped the questions onto me for a little chit chat about a current logo project with Buffalo Grove Park District. The interview did not end without some wildlife shout outs: buffalo, black squirrels and a fox. Enjoy!

Timberline Campground in Goodfield Illinois is a former Jellystone Park Property and is primarily used as a seasonal campground (people leave their RVs on permanent site). The campground also has short-term RV and tent camping sites including long pull thrus and back-ins on packed gravel. The majority of the seasonal guests have golf carts for getting around so you can expect to see a large volume of golf carts kicking up dust in the area. Timberline Campground does have a fun vibe with a family-friendly atmosphere but the park did maintain the Jellystone pricing structure charging additional fees beyond the nightly rate to use amenities like the bounce pillow, mini golf, and trikes. The park does have two playgrounds open without a pass and a pool also available to guests.

Timberline Campground is set on a large property surrounded by trees with a number of the sites under or near shade trees. Families and groups enjoy the property for get togethers. Goodfield as a small rural town home to an agricultural manufacturing plant that produces tractor equipment (Case). Cyclists who enjoy road-riding will find miles of quiet Country Roads meandering through farm fields. The park is a mile and a half off the interstate and is accessible to most any sized RV.

There is a small scenic fishing lake that forms a perfect backdrop for tent campers who can set up near the shores. In addition there is a short dirt trail for walking in between the two main camping areas.

Fisherman’s Corner North Recreation Area Campground in Hampton Illinois is a US Corp of Engineers campground along the Mississippi River providing partial hookup RV camping in a well kept setting. Perfectly designed for large and small RVs with paved roads paved back in RV sites and easy to access dump station, restrooms, playground, boat launch and fishing area set an forested setting with green mowed grass adjacent to the Mississippi River.

Although there is no river access from within the campground, the Fishermans Corner Day Use facility is a short walk away and offers numerous fishing areas as well as a canoe ramp. Visitors can also catch a weekly educational program at the amphitheater located within the campground.

The Central Trail section of the famous Mississippi River Trail passes directly in front of the campground, offering visitors miles of walking and biking trails along the river bank. The expansive Elton E. Fawks Bald Eagle Refuge and Nature Preserve and the Illiniwek Forest Preserve are also located just minutes away.

Facilities:
Of the 51 reservable campsites, 46 campsites have electric hookups and 5 campsites do not have electric hookups and are for tents only.

Fisherman’s Corner provides the comforts of modern camping, including drinking water, a shower house, electric hook-ups, flush toilets, while still providing visitors with an authentic outdoor experience.
