    Ponta Negra is a famous beach and neighborhood located in the Brazilian city of Natal, the capital of the state of Rio Grande do Norte. Located in the extreme south of the beach is the Morro do Careca , a large dune and an iconic landmark of the city. Located in the extreme north of the beach is the Via Costeira , a long coastal road that connects Ponta Negra with several other beaches of the city, such as Areia Preta and Praia dos Artistas. The beach is completely urbanized and there are several shops, restaurants, bars, night clubs, and hotels. The sand itself is lined with tents, or huts, called barracas that serve food and drinks to beachgoers day and night. A common sight on the beach are jangadas, simple, multicolored, local fishing boats typical of northeastern Brazil.

    The Morro do Careca is a large dune located in the city of Natal in Brazil. It is the main symbol and a common sight on tourist postcards of the city and the state of Rio Grande do Norte. It has a height of 120 metres , with a margin determined by vegetation. It is located in the extreme south of Ponta Negra – the capital's most famous beach. In the past Morro do Careca was a spot for recreation and entertainment. The bathers and tourists would climb up the hill and come down with the help of a device called skibunda. Since the end of the 1990s, it has been closed to visitors. The reason for the closure is the dune's protection; the preservation of forest will aid in safeguarding against erosion, ensuring that the sand does not slip and thus reduce the height of the hill.     Genipabu is a beach with a complex of dunes, a lagoon and an environmental protection area located close to Natal, one of the most famous post-cards of the Rio Grande do Norte Brazilian state.Genipabu is used for buggie and dromedarie rides. A sport that is played in the dunes around the lake is the esquibunda, in which a person slides the dunes with a wooden board. Buggie rides are offered locally in two styles, com emoção or sem emoção .
