The Emirate of Dubai is one of the seven emirates of the United Arab Emirates. The capital of the emirate is the eponymous city, Dubai. It is located in the Arabian Desert on the coast of the Persian Gulf. It is bordered to the south by the emirate of Abu Dhabi, to the northeast by the emirate of Sharjah, to the southeast by the country of Oman, to the west by the emirate of Ajman, and to the north by the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah.     St. Mary's Catholic Church, Dubai is a church founded by Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the U.A.E. In 1966 he donated land to build the church. Rev. Fr. Eusebius Daveri and his team pioneered this project. Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum inaugurated St. Mary’s Catholic Church on 7 April 1967.Currently in this place there is a new church that has been designed to accommodate more than 2000 worshipers at each service, under the guidance of Rev. Bishop Paul Hinder, Rev. Fr. Daniel Cerofolini OFM. Cap, Fr. Michael Cardoz and their team, who pioneered this project. This church was inaugurated on 3 November 1989.     Jebel Ali Church or Church of St. Francis of Assisi in Dubai was inaugurated in November 2001 as part of the Vicariate of Arabia, presently pastored by Bishop Paul Hinder. Residents of the parish are of many nationalities from around the world, living mainly as expatriates in Dubai. The church is situated just off Sheikh Zayed Road in Jebel Ali. Jebel Ali is situated on a small mountain in the desert. The name itself means ‘Little Mountain’. It is easily accessible from The Gardens/Ibn Battuta Mall and from the Jebel Ali Village interchanges.
