Fredrikstad is a city and municipality in Østfold county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the city of Fredrikstad. The city of Fredrikstad was founded in 1567 by King Frederick II, and established as a municipality on 1 January 1838 . The rural municipality of Glemmen was merged with Fredrikstad on 1 January 1964. The rural municipalities of Borge, Onsøy, Kråkerøy, and Rolvsøy were merged with Fredrikstad on 1 January 1994.     Gressvik is a village located in the municipality of Fredrikstad, Norway. The river named Seut separates Gressvik from the city of Fredrikstad. Gressvik stretches from Ørebekk in the north, to Rød and Viker in the south. Consisting only of two farms and a few other houses before 1860, it eventually grew to a considerable settlement, following the establishment of a sawmill by Julius Nicolai Jacobsen.The centre of Gressvik is called The Market, and functions as a shopping street.
