Family Travel in Brazil – First Time American Visitors
It is safe to bring your family travel to Brazil? Watch American grandparents tell you their true opinion. Our family came all the way from Nevada and Utah to Salvador, Bahia Brazil. We spent 9 days showing them around Salvador and they loved it. We went to Salvador’s historical district called Pelourinho, Elevador Lacerda, Igreja de São Francisco, and Tuesday night Olodum drumming in Pelourinho. We also ate some great food from street venders. Salvador has the most beautiful beaches, markets and great shopping. Grandpa’s favorite place was Pelourinho but the kids favorite place was Big Jump! Where we had a sleep over and played all night. Overall my family was very impressed, happy, safe, well fed and entertained. They love Brazil and want to come back. Video 100

Visiting Italy is an amazing experience whether you are seeing the Roman ruins throughout the country in places like Rome or Naples, but for all the amazing things you should do in Italy (visit Venice, Florence, Rome, Ravenna, Amalfi Coast, eat until you explode) there are things you DON'T DO when you come to Italy & Here are our 12 things NOT TO DO in Italy when you are traveling Italy.

The Don'ts of Italy
1. Don't expect to get discount prices on fancy Italian luxury brands.
2. Don't eat near tourist sights. You will be ripped off and not get as good of Italian food as you would away from the tourist sights.
3. Don't Tip. They already charge you for service.
4. You Don't have to scream louder to get people to understand you.
5. Don't worry about overdressing, the Italians will always look better than you.
6. Don't just visit Rome and Venice, there is so much more to Italy.
7. Don't share your pizza and make sure you do eat it with your fork and knife.
8. Don't use the fast trains for short distances, they are not worth the significantly higher prices.
9. Don't expect to see spaghetti and meatballs on the menu TOGETHER. They will be there separately, but not together.
10. Don't expect a big breakfast in Italy. Just coffee and a cookie.
11. Don't overpack. You will be limited on space when traveling in Italy so pack accordingly.
12. Don't expect to be served food in a restaurant between 3pm and 7pm.

Visit Aracaju, Sergipe, Brazil
Aracaju is the capital of the state of Sergipe, Brazil. It is located on the coast, four hours north of our home in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. Many people told us to visit this place because of its great people and tourist attractions. Aracaju was so fun! The Mercado Municipal Governador Albano Franco was the biggest and best market I have seen here in Brazil. The city is a relaxed beach town with a large well-known bridge. There is a wonderful gondola ride over a huge beautiful park that takes you to more hikes and a huge statue. They have a great zoo with beautiful birds, a giant boa constrictor, monkeys and lots more animals. There are tons of amazing restaurants and cool sights like enormous statues of African Gods, crabs and Caju fruit. At night there are parks that have tons of entertainment for kids and families like trampolines, bounce houses and race cars, bumper cars, music and a fun play grounds. It was wonderful. Video 79

Returning to the USA After One Year in Brazil
Check out the Brazilian restaurant at the end of the video. There is a new nonstop flight from Miami Florida to Salvador Brazil. As a late birthday present I treated myself to a nice week long vacation in Miami. I stayed at a cute Airbnb, ate all kinds of good American food, went to the beach and did lots of Christmas shopping. It had been 14 months since I stepped foot on US soil and I forgot how good it feels. There were a few things that reminded of Brazil like the palm trees everywhere, climate, and lots of diverse people every wear. I loved it and I’m so happy there is a direct flight now. Every year Brazil’s Carnaval brings millions of people to this incredible festival full of parades, culture, excitement, public street parties and celebrations. Carnaval is the biggest week long party in the world. Video 113
1. Rio De Janeiro’s Carnival is registered in the Guiness Book as the biggest carnival in the world.
2. In Brazilian Portuguese, it’s written as ‘Carnaval’ but for the majority of the rest of the world, it’s written as ‘Carnival’; and both are correct!
3. In Salvador alone, estimations state that approximately 2.5 million people participate in the festivities every year (1.5 million being tourists). This festival has a large positive impact on Salvador’s local economy.
4. Salvador is the “the biggest African city outside Africa” with 83% of the people claiming black ancestry. The difference between Carnaval in Salvador and Rio de Janeiro is that Salvador is an incredibly vibrant public street party with huge blocos and cultural events. While Rio’s main event is the parade in the Sambadromo where spectators watch elaborate floats.
5.In Rio’s Sambodromo, the Samba schools are judged on their elaborate floats, costumes, dancing and music. This is a very important competition and some schools spend over 4 million dollars on outfits and preparations.
6.The Carnaval in Brazil is always held 40 days before Easter, ending at noon on Ash Wednesday.
7. There are more than 2 million people on the streets every day during the carnaval.
8. Brazilian Samba derived from a mixture of African and European influences. Brazilian Samba is one the most popular dances in South America. The dance has evolved over time to become a cultural identity for Brazilians. And I recommend you try it. Don’t worry if you can’t samba; just move your feet, have fun and smile. Brazilians want you to enjoy their culture so don’t be shy.
9. Carnaval is celebrated all over Brazil in their own unique ways. But the biggest celebrations are held in Rio, Sao Paulo, Salvador, Recife, Olinda and Manaus.
10. The word Carnaval is represented as the last period of feasting and celebration before the strict spiritual period of Lent. So, all that dancing, parading and fun is really just to say goodbye to steak dinners for a while.
Carnival is a chance to let people set aside their everyday lives, adorn themselves with costumes, masks and allow themselves to experience an amplified sense of social unity, art, music, and excitement. We are an American family living in Salvador, Brazil. I know from experience that Brazilians want to share their culture and beauty with you. So put Brazil’s Carnival on your bucket list and make it a priority to come and experience the world’s biggest party.
This is Pelourinho, the historical district in Salvador. This is my favorite place to go for Carnaval and to take visiting family or friends during other times of the year. It tops the charts for one of the best afro Brazilian cultural experiences. It’s also the most unique, vibrant, colorful, celebration and is great for families and kids. I highly recommend it.
