The competition took place on March 3 and 4, 2019. The Special Group of the Samba Schools Parade always happen on Sunday and Monday which is before Tuesday of carnival (mobile holiday that occurs 47 days before Easter, and which this year it is on March 5). On both nights, the parade starts at 9 o'clock and ends at sunrise.

Ranked highest among all samba schools, ‘Beija Flor’ meaning ‘Humming Bird’ is a beloved bird in the Rio region. The school is based in Nilopolis outside Rio and has achieved the reputation of being the best school because of outstanding artistry, organized management and a strong intent to win. It winning streak began in 1998 and won consecutively from 2003 to 2008. Beija Flor is well-known for its creative brilliance, extravagant costumes and powerful performances. The Rio Carnival Agenda
The Rio Carnival is recognized as one of the biggest celebrations in the world and the annual Samba parade one of the greatest shows on earth. In 2015, Carnival will officially commence on Friday, February 13th , with the handing over of the city’s keys by the mayor to the Carnival King Momo.
A number of events take place around Carnival time in Rio. Over 300 street bands from various neighborhoods perform all over the city and are at the heart of the famous Rio street parties, many of which are impromptu. Blocos perform their theme songs and parade in the various neighborhoods of Rio de Janeiro. Samba rules the house at the various Carnival Balls, where masked theme nights add to the fun and merry making.
Samba schools have rehearsal nights which are open to the public, a great place to dance and sing with the locals.
The highlight of course is the annual Samba parade conducted at the Sambadrome Marques de Sapucai, more commonly called the Sambodromo, where the city’s Samba schools, after months of practice participate in the annual competition. The venue sells over 70,000 tickets every year to locals as well as people from all over the world who come to watch this spectacle.
At the centre of the Brazil Carnival festivities stands the magnificent Rio Carnival held in the wonderful city of Rio de Janeiro. Here you will find action-packed programs, each one more exciting and enthralling than the next.

The elegant street layout of Paragominas, Brazil eluded me for many days during my visit there because I was unaware that there were two similar central hubs in that city. Sometimes I saw a church in the city center as we rode around the town, then later driving around the sister hub I couldn't find the church,
After I saw a map months later I finally realized why I felt lost. Two 6 sided shapes with spokes and a center hub positioned side by side resemble a figure eight from space! One hub has the church, the other hub has other stuff.

Paul Hodge’s HD video is Part 2 of a HD video three-part series chronicling the entire performance of the “Beija-Flor” Samba School at the Rio Carnival 2015 Samba School Parade Competitions in Rio’s Sambadromo. “Beija-Flor” is a samba school in Rio de Janeiro and represents the municipality of Nilópolis, Baixada Fluminense located in Rio de Janeiro state's southwestern region. The school was founded in 1948, and its colors are blue and white. Its Drummers’ Queen is Claudia Leite, the President is Vô Macumba and its Carnavalesco is Alexandre Louzada e Edson Pereira. For the 2016 Rio Carnival Samba School Parade Special Group championship, the school is scheduled to be the third school to perform on the Special Group's first day of competitions at 11:10 pm the evening of Sunday, February 7, 2016. The school's 2016 performance theme, “enredo”, honors Cândido José de Araújo Viana, Marquis of Sapucaí, the famed Brazilian professor, poet, musician, writer, politician, and namesake of Sambodromo Marques de Sapucai where the Carnival competitions are held. For the 2015 Rio Carnival Samba School Competitions, Beija-Flor’s theme was entitled: “A story teller tells the story: A look at Africa and the emergence of Equatorial Guinea. Let us walk on the path of our happiness.” The performance told the history of Africa and especially Equatorial Guinea, the biggest oil producer on the continent.
