Walkern is a village and civil parish in East Hertfordshire. It is about two miles from Stevenage. The River Beane, a chalk stream, crosses the village street of Church End at a ford, which is overlooked by the medieval Bridgefoot Farm and thatched Wych Elm cottage. The village has several shops, including a convenience store, a hair and beauty salon, a craft shop, a shop that features homestyle products, a tea shop, a drum shop, a petrol station and Walkern Gallery near the White Lion public house. 1. Blenheim Palace Woodstock
Blenheim & Woodstock was a railway station constructed in the neoclassical style which served the town of Woodstock and Blenheim Palace in the English county of Oxfordshire. The station, as well as the line, was constructed by the Duke of Marlborough and was privately run until 1897 when it became part of the Great Western Railway. The number of trains serving the station was cut in the late 1930s, and again in 1952 down to only six trains a day. The last train ran on 27 February 1954 adorned with a wreath. The station building was initially converted into a garage and petrol station. Then the forecourt of the site was no longer used as a petrol station, but for used car sales only with a building company using some of the land behind the station. Spooky St Mary's, Churchyard (Walkern) ?

I received a message from one of my subscribers telling me to visit Walkern Church, It's Haunted she said and when she visited one night with friends she could hear moaning coming from the Churchyard, they were too frightened to enter,
Now as you all know, I don't visit these places at night, I take a look at them during the daylight hours and having read up on the Church and it's history discovered that Jane Wenham was driven from Walkern by an angry mob who believed her to be a witch. She was later tried as such in Hertford. It is said that after her death she returned to haunt the area around the church.
Now you have the chance to join me in a walk around the graveyard .....
