Family Travel with Colleen Kelly - Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri
Discover the family fun offered in the 55,000-acre water playground known as Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri, with family travel expert Colleen Kelly. To kick off the vacation, Colleen and her kids get an aerial view of the lake, which shows off its unusual snakelike curves. The 1,100 miles of shoreline is perfect for watersports of all kinds, from fishing with a professional fisherman to learning how to wakeboard with a world champion! An old-fashioned paddle wheeler tour and a pirate ship adventure are exciting for grandparents and kids alike.
In addition to all of the lakefront fun, there are family friendly activities on shore, too! Colleen and her girls meet a local family at Blair’s Landing to learn how to make their sweet and unique treats. A visit to Lake of the Ozarks wouldn’t be complete without a tour of the Bridal Cave to learn about the stories that lie beneath the earth. And the learning continues with a leisurely hike through Ha Ha Tonka State Park, where Colleen and her daughters meet a group of families to discover the history of the castle ruins located on the park grounds. It’s a vacation packed with outdoor adventure!

A Tour of Tan-Tar-A Resort, Osage Beach, MO
Hello, and welcome to my 2-part series on Tan-Tar-A! As you probably know already, I'm hugely interested in the hospitality industry. My family has been vacationing at the Tan-Tar-A resort down in the Lake of the Ozarks (Missouri) for DECADES now. In many ways, it's the property that got me interested in travel and hotels in the first place. And that's because it's such an fascinating place. Tan-Tar-A sprawls across a huge, hilly lakeside property and is made up of hundreds of different buildings with loads of history. This video is nothing flashy or exciting. It's just me wandering aimlessly around the resort with a camera sharing some old memories. It's an absolute maze inside and I still get lost from time to time. If you're interested in the old mega-resorts of the 60s-80s, you'll probably enjoy the tour :)
Obviously Tan-Tar-A is getting a bit dated, though the property was just sold and will be incorporated into the Margaritaville chain in the coming years. With this will come millions of dollars in renovations (along with those that have already been done). Hopefully it's enough to refresh the property and attract a new, younger crowd.
In part 2, you can see a detailed tour of the small home we rented -
